Probably the first and last time I thought Trump spoke with sensitivity and well

I think the man is so disliked he could feed starving children in Africa and people would still find fault.

I've called them worse than losers. TBH, I thought the same as you OP

Valentine2 · 23/05/2017 14:57

All western leaders go to Saudi! Merkel,May that's the deal. Maybe trump can do some good. I have no faith but look we are where we are just like Brexit.

Yes. And that is why it will keep happening. Neither Merkel, nor May or Trumpt will lose their kids in a blast ever. We will. But we are not even talking about it and letting it happen. So the cycle will keep going on and on, Syria and here.

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 23/05/2017 15:01

so what do you suggest valentine? Break off all contact with the Middle East and build a wall?

No. I say we stop selling weapons to them to make them strong for oppressing their own people, we stop using other people's lands for fighting our wars and make our borders less porous than they are right now.
For the start, we should stop selling half the London to Arab countries and also should stop their preachers infiltrating our communities. And we should spend lot more money on our own police forces who actually are securing our cities. They are under immense pressure already.
But I am sure it's all impossible. Weapons make a big chunk of our "inventions", don't they? This industry has people sitting in every important place in this country. So it won't happen any time soon. Specially as the public is fine with meeting with fuckers who support this terrorism because "oh what other way there is" and "this is how real world works".
why is this the only dogma that is supposedly working? Why can we not challenge it? I don't think it cannot be challenged. Just that we all will need to be united against it all.

ComingUpTrumps · 23/05/2017 15:46

I just wanted to come on here to say that I also don't agree that Trump was saying that Islam must be 'obliterated'.

In my opinion, saying that Isis's 'wicked ideology must be obliterated' is absolutely not the same as saying that Islam should be 'obliterated'. How are Isis and Islam similar in any way?

I know we could all argue this point until the cows come home, but Islam is a peaceful and peace-promoting religion. Isis do not promote peace - we know this. We also know that Isis members want division, hatred, fear and alienation.

So I think that Trump was correct to say that the Isis ideology is wicked and that it should be obliterated. Because he was referring only to Isis's ideology. Not the ideology associated with Islam.

LullabelleBates · 23/05/2017 15:48

OP are you for real- don't let emotion derail your sense of judgement!
So why do you care what that great Ootus (#45) says? Jaaaaaysus Shock

MrsJayy · 23/05/2017 15:52

Remember DT tried to stop muslims traveling to the US in a bid to stop terrorism so if an American muslim left to go ona trip they wouldb't be allowed back his islamictolerance isn't the best i can see why people think he lumps islamic and terrorism as the same.

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 23/05/2017 15:56

lulla

Last time I looked I was real Smile

Normally he's a massive twat but in this case I like he didn't use the word Islamist or Isis or terrorist just looser.

They are and they will loose.

Maybe presidency will humble him i think like a pp said people who hate him just find fault every time he opens his mouth

Try and post that in Relationships. The wise mumsnetters there would immediately clarify it for you: Leopards don't change their spots. They only get bigger (spots, not leopards!).

Roussette · 23/05/2017 16:20

To me a 'loser' would be a suicide bomber who aimed to create the carnage he has in Manchester but accidentally blew himself up injuring no one.
Unfortunately, for this moment in time, he has won.

But the spirit of the people of Manchester and indeed the UK will win through and my thoughts are with those who are going through hell today.

That's something that's been bothering me too. See, the guy came to do a blast, he did it. We had to save our people. We failed. How come he is the loser here?
It's hollow wen you call him loser. It also makes you feel bit better about staying friends with and selling all you can to the "source" (as a wise poster here called it) to effectively it healthy and going. Hmm

MrsJayy · 23/05/2017 16:45

the terrorist ideology is they are winners they think or say murderers go to a better place that this muderer waa acting intheir name soindeed winning, I do think these speeches are written by security experts but i think he just went off script you can't degrade terrorisim with words like loosers

innurendo · 23/05/2017 17:03

Because a suicide bomber who targets children is like a wife beater, or any other kind of cowardly bully taken to the most extreme and evil extent possible.

As a man, as an adult, using the aid of explosives to fight babies, and killing yourself to avoid reprisal from the people who would defend them is about as much of a loser and a coward as it is possible to be.

EtonMessi · 23/05/2017 17:04

I genuinely don't know what this means. Trump? If it does, I can assure you it doesn't change my opinion of Trump in the slightest. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day and all that.

Tazerface · 23/05/2017 17:04

Well it's something Russell Howard (I think it was him) did a bit on his show about how terrorists should be called losers. Or something similar. Like take away the power by refusing to call them their name.

I think a president should be presidential. Trump is an idiot and his speech writers are clearly working with someone who can't be relied upon to speak eloquently even when following a TelePrompTer.

He probably suggested saying they all have tiny hands as we all know it enrages him!

peaceout · 23/05/2017 17:15

Maybe presidency will humble him
becoming the most powerful person on earth will humble him
you what??
he was an egomaniac to start with

Dillyson · 23/05/2017 17:20

Terrible speech. No dignity, sounded like a 13yr old boy.
I'm sure the sentiment was there though.

Screwinthetuna · 23/05/2017 17:25

He speaks in simple language but it means that every person understands him. I, for one, agree with him. The PC brigade in Britain is getting ridiculous; nobody can even be angry about what happened without being accused as being racist. People are scared to express their anger

annandale · 23/05/2017 17:38

Which people Screw?

BoredandConfused · 23/05/2017 17:46

You think they have won? They have only won if we let them and this is the end. As much as in one way I wish it was, it isn't. The fight for all of our freedom and democracies goes on. It is a fight they are losing...if it is ISIL related, which it appears to be, they are losing in Syria and Iraq so they escalate here and elsewhere. However, I use the words "they" and "them" regarding any and all terror organizations that think it's okay to attack innocent people.

As a proud Mancunian, I can tell you they didn't "win" last night.

They only win if they beat us and we are not beaten and we will never be beaten. A "successful" attack from their point of view doesn't reflect the hundreds we have prevented. I couldn't give a flying fuck what one of those cretins thinks, that would be to give them too much power, too much credence. I think Trump's a buffoon and a particularly inarticulate and potentially dangerous one at that. Today though, I'll happily stand shoulder to shoulder with him in his condemnation of what is a despicable attack on children.

My DD is off to Albert Square tonight for the vigil. My heart is beating a little faster and I've lectured her as if it's the first time she's ever been to Manchester without me, but I'm proud of her. She should be revising for her A' levels but said she "had no choice". They are losers. They will lose. Last night was not about them "winning". The people of Manchester will show they are not beaten tonight and I have no doubt there will be people from all of our neighbouring towns and cities standing shoulder to shoulder with us.

LullabelleBates · 23/05/2017 17:47

OP sorry I got you wrong. Apologies.

peaceout · 23/05/2017 17:49

He speaks in simple language but it means that every person understands him
he puts things in simple terms because he doesn't have too much in the way of intellectual horsepower...potus uses a limited vocabulary because that's all he's got
