to think it's finally time England deals with its Katy Hopkins problem?

I know she feeds off publicity and the best thing really would be to ignore her until she shrivels and dies of fame starvation so I apologise for the thread but this is really too much now isn't it?

Charlie. The problem isn't that she asked for a solution. It's that she asked for a final solution.

innurendo · 24/05/2017 16:38

If people are inciting crimes fine. You are on a rocky road though when you support a ban on people believing/expressing opinions that outrage the orthodox moral or political views. This underpins free society and is the lifeblood of social progress within it.

What the suffragettes were saying was arguably repugnant to the moral and political orthodoxy of the day. As was the idea of lower class people having rights (almost every right they have ever won from the workplace to the ballot box to the marriage register). As was repealing laws on homosexuality.

We have to allow people to hold and express opinions that are seen as heavily morally wrong by other people, or you can pick some point in history stop there and make it illegal to think or say morally wrong things. ie become Saudi Arabia or Nazi Germany.

BertrandRussell · 24/05/2017 16:39

"Ah the irony. Scores of young people killed and we must not ask for a solution. Silly us."

Oh don't talk bollocks.

Charlieismydarlin · 24/05/2017 16:41

Well what is a final solution?

We need a solution. We really do and I don't for one minute think anyone is referring to the holocaust.

WhooooAmI24601 · 24/05/2017 16:44

I'm pretty sure Hopkins was smart enough when she wrote that tweet to know exactly what she'd be referring to by "final solution". She deliberately provokes and enrages people to gain notoriety and attention. Don't imagine asking for a solution is the same thing as asking for a final solution. Not in Hopkins-land.

BertrandRussell · 24/05/2017 16:44

Oh right. You're another of the "poor misunderstood Katie Hopkins" crowd. Fair enough.

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2017 16:44

Well if she didn't realise the implication of her words she shouldn't be in the media jobs she is currently in. If she was innocent of the other meaning when she works in the media I'd suggest that's a basic capability issue.

Charlieismydarlin · 24/05/2017 16:45

I don't know.

I do know she doesn't talk about candles and flags.

The best suggestions are form those in the Muslim community

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2017 16:46

If I'm giving her the huge and undeserved benefit if the doubt that is. Suspect the truth is she's just a nasty piece of work who enjoyed being oh so controversial. Well she's overstepped te line and I hope she feels the full consequences.

Charlieismydarlin · 24/05/2017 16:46

bertrand wow. What a stunning response and addition to the debate

At least Bertrand didn't allude to sending groups of people to concentration camps though, eh.

StealthPolarBear · 24/05/2017 16:48

Who wants to tackle t with love?
I don't want these people walking the streets.
I suspect the vast majority of Muslims feel the same as I do

NotACleverName · 24/05/2017 16:49

cancer known as Islam

Hmm

That tells me all I need to know. DNE.

Orlantina · 24/05/2017 16:50

So you want people with links to be put in prison just in case?

BertrandRussell · 24/05/2017 16:52

bertrand wow. What a stunning response and addition to the debate"

Compared to yours it was positively Socratic. Considering that this thread is 739 posts long and your "point" has been made about 60 times.

BertrandRussell · 24/05/2017 16:54

OK, ayyylmao.

Set out your plan to deal with the issue. What exactly would you do?

PlinkyTheFairyWitch · 24/05/2017 16:59

Well, I hate to break it to you, ayyylmao, but you can't fight hate with hate either, it just creates more hate.

If we bomb them, we create more of them. Their entire narrative is that the west hates them and wants to eradicate them. It will simply radicalise more people.

Ditto for any draconian measures on our soil. Guantanamo is one of their prime recruitment aids.

The peace process in NI was/is done with words. What's your suggestion?

JanetBrown2015 · 24/05/2017 16:59

We have a right to offend. Je suis charlie.

We need to fight very hard indeed to keep free speech. If people are upset they should go and cry in corners or get therapy and I include in that men making very nasty comments to men - I want to live in a UK where they have the right and I like our robust CPS guidelines on prosecution of social media comment that happens to upset someone.

NotISaidTheWalrus · 24/05/2017 16:59

Eh? The whole thread is about censorship of KH

Perhaps you could RTFT? Or even the OP? It's not about censorship.

JanetBrown2015 · 24/05/2017 17:00

I have said before now on line the sooner men are removed from the planet the sooner we will be free of war and violence and most child abuse. I don't think that should make me be jailed for "hate speech". We just all need to grow thicker skins. What happened to the stiff upper lip of the British? Plenty of British muslims most of whom are peaceful are just as good at the rest of us at tolerating free speech. I stand shoulder to shoulder with them.

YoloSwaggins · 24/05/2017 17:01

*We have a right to offend. Je suis charlie.

Exactly - as someone said, at one point being a feminist or agreeing with homosexual civil liberties was controversial and "immoral!"

If we don't have free speech, the gov. can literally turn around tomorrow and say it's hate speech to insult Theresa May's shoes.

NotYoda · 24/05/2017 17:02

I WANT TO CENSOR HER

PlinkyTheFairyWitch · 24/05/2017 17:05

Janet, there's a huge and legal difference between speech that causes offence, speech that threatens and causes distress and alarm, and speech that incites and/or stirs up racial or religious hatred. We're talking about the latter here.
