I started off thinking I'd vote SNP but I've definitely settled on Labour.

I'm not pretending that any if the available options are perfect but I feel like every time Theresa May talks about Brexit and "stands up" to Europe (our closest ally and trading partner ffs), it's a bit like cringing as a racist out of touch relative starts spouting off at a party and praying to God they don't say anything too damaging for the sake of the family's reputation.

As for strong and stable....

However, I can't pretend that Labour are much better, I just know that their view of society chimes more closely with mine.

I don't want to start a bun fight, I just want to gauge how dramatic this Tory landslide is going to be or if there's still some hope....

Dons hard hat and awaits flaming!

Me and husband have always voted Tory and will continue to do so. Not much has changed for us to consider swaying our vote.

alteredimages · 23/05/2017 14:18

Wanted to vote Labour despite reservations about Corbyn. They've produced a clear and costed manifesto, which the Tories have spectacularly failed to do, but Labour have a really crap candidate in my constituency so sadly won't get my vote.

I vote in a safe SNP seat anyway, so my vote doesn't have much impact.

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 23/05/2017 14:24

gottag

You don't understand that people look both at the policies and at the people who are supposed to be delivering these policies?

The labour policies are right up my street but I have absolutley no faith whatsoever that they are properly costed and that Corbyn, Abbott and thornbury etc can deliver them and negotiate a good Brexit deal.

Corbyn has lost the support of the majority of his MPs and was totally unable to deal with the racism in his party. I don't trust him and never supported his leadership.

I don't slavishly follow my party I find that just lazy and the actions of someone who really doesn't understand politics, as you would say.

bruffian · 23/05/2017 14:27

The conservatives have pledged to put cameras in all abattoirs to improve animal welfare. Doesn't seem very interesting to the keyboard warriors though.

What more can they do than actually provide costings which they did Hmm

Unless of course youre a fox, then theyll all dress up in funny clothes, chase you down on horseback and then let the dogs tear you apart, yup theyve got this animal welfare stuff down pat Hmm

bruffian · 23/05/2017 14:31

One doesn't have to cancel out the other. More people eat meat than hunt. It's a good development.

Branleuse · 23/05/2017 14:32

i voted green last time but am voting labour this time

JustAnotherPoster00 · 23/05/2017 14:35

One doesn't have to cancel out the other

It really does though

Underparmummy · 23/05/2017 14:36

A huge remoaner here so will be voting lib dem. Tbf I normally vote lib dem or tory anyway.

bruffian · 23/05/2017 14:37

In your mind, maybe. I think reforming abattoirs is far, far more important than whether or not we have hunting.

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 23/05/2017 14:37

whst more can they do but provide coatings which they did

They did indeed except Corbyn admitted he couldn't tell How much the utilities would cost going in house again as no one will know the share price. That's just one incident.

Please read the telegraph and the IMF figures

These pledges ain't going to be paid for by 5% of the population.

It will be like trumps wall, never happen.

bruffian · 23/05/2017 14:39

They will pay for it by borrowing more.

Underparmummy · 23/05/2017 14:40

Corbyn just doesn't want to admit at this point he'd have to tax the 42,500 bracket too. At least he's understood the marketing use of manifestos though (ahem, Teresa May...)

JustAnotherPoster00 · 23/05/2017 14:41

So when the tories keep treating vulnerable people with distaste and disrespect at least you can sleep at night knowing that your protest vote was all it was and it changed nothing, you ok with that?

bruffian · 23/05/2017 14:46

I wish he would raise taxes for all! It would make the labour manifesto seem possible!

Look I understand you totally believe in Corbyn and think he is the second coming. I get that. I thought Blaire was too and to a certain extent Blaire did lots of good things as well as bad.

However he had good economic policies and understood the need to balance the books because those of us who remember the 70s and the borrowing and inflation that happened then was appalling.

If Corbyn got in the economy would collapse as he cannot fund all these billions of pounds worth of policies by taxing 5% of the population and just when with Brexit we need businesses to open and thrive in Britain he puts up corporation tax!

Can you not see that if the economy collapses the first to suffer are the poor and the disabled.

Sorry if I'm coming across harsh, think everyones feelings are a bit frayed today Flowers

Have you studied any keynesian economics? I dont mean that sarcastically

PigletJohn · 23/05/2017 15:17

Unfortunately the Tory manifesto has no costings in it, so they intend to fund their policies by, er, by, ummm....

Cutting school dinners and pensioners' benefits?

Losing all that money they had planned to take in the Dementia tax will make things tricky as well, though the cap has been declared as, err, ummmm, nobody knows, not saying.

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 23/05/2017 15:19

No you are not coming across as harsh but passionate and what's wrong with that. Smile

I wish I felt as passionate as you for this election I really do but I just feel totally depressed and hopeless that labour may well implode after this defeat.

My hope is when this happens a centre left party will emerge under a good new leader and provide a decent effective opposition.

Bluebeedee · 23/05/2017 15:36

Used to be green but now 100% passionately labour. Seems to be the only party trying to make things better for everyone.

Shocked at the people on this thread saying they used to be labour but won't vote for JC. Seems crazy to risk another term of Tories which will see important services like the NHS crumble

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 23/05/2017 15:41

Blue those who voted in Corbyn already risked another Tory governmentas. The deed is done.

I voted cooper. With respect if you voted Corbyn it's your fault not those of us who didn't.

Frillyhorseyknickers · 23/05/2017 15:50

n your mind, maybe. I think reforming abattoirs is far, far more important than whether or not we have hunting.

I agree. As an avid supporter of fox hunting, I'm amazed that this has been blown so far out of proportion - the reform of the hunting act has been on their agenda since it was banned- its only because it is such a contentious issue that it gets picked up on.

The legislation needs redrafting (for both pro and anti parties) because at the moment it's an unworkable law that wastes money on failed prosecutions.

However, in the wake of Brexit and quite frankly a MILLION more pressing political issues, I think it needs removing from their agenda.

I support abattoir reform and I support fox hunting - it isn't a case of one or the other. I think the Tories were mad to put it in their manifesto but there you go. I vote for them on their agricultural policy primarily because they are the only party who has our backs.

bruffian · 23/05/2017 16:01

Yes I'm annoyed that they put it in their manifesto, although I know that the pro hunt brigade have said this is the last chance and they won't bother campaigning again.

People are totally hung up on it now. I agree it's an unworkable law as it stands and needs reforming though.

Jupitar · 23/05/2017 17:02

The keyboard warriors are probably more worried about the conservative plans for the Internet Shock Grin
