I started off thinking I'd vote SNP but I've definitely settled on Labour.

I'm not pretending that any if the available options are perfect but I feel like every time Theresa May talks about Brexit and "stands up" to Europe (our closest ally and trading partner ffs), it's a bit like cringing as a racist out of touch relative starts spouting off at a party and praying to God they don't say anything too damaging for the sake of the family's reputation.

As for strong and stable....

However, I can't pretend that Labour are much better, I just know that their view of society chimes more closely with mine.

I don't want to start a bun fight, I just want to gauge how dramatic this Tory landslide is going to be or if there's still some hope....

Dons hard hat and awaits flaming!

I was going to go Lib Dem but I'm now going to go Labour, based on my local MP and the manifesto is just way more considered.

picklemepopcorn · 22/05/2017 15:30

I float anyway. This is worse than usual.

I hate the way (mainly labour?) everyone seems to be attacking everyone else's policies in a quite unreasonable way.

There has been the usual 'labour can't pay for it' accusation, but loads of misrepresentation of Tory policies- well among my friends anyway.

It makes it much harder for me to vote labour when my friends are all trash talking everyone else.

elmo1980 · 22/05/2017 15:38

Yes I am. Have always been tory but they have become completely unsupportable so for the first time in my life I'm voting labour.

I don't particularly like Jeremy Corbyn but their policies fit better with my beliefs and there's no point voting for lib Dems or anyone else with no chance of getting in.

scaryteacher · 22/05/2017 15:46

Will be voting Tory; there is no magic money tree, and at least there is a stab being made at social care and sorting out the WFA for those who are better off. I don't trust Labour on Trident, NATO and defence in general, and I some of Corbyn's associations leave a very nasty taste in my mouth.

roarityroar · 22/05/2017 15:48

Nope, was and am voting Tory

TheNaze73 · 22/05/2017 15:51

I used to be a Labour member in the 90's. Wouldn't dream of voting for them now

gluteustothemaximus · 22/05/2017 15:52

I'll be voting on policies not personalities, so for me, that's labour.

Gutted it's a safe Tory seat here.

bertiesgal · 22/05/2017 15:53

I was getting my hopes up there but the last 2 posts are closer to what my pessimism was expecting.

I guess all that we can hope for is: a)it's not as big a landslide as feared
B) JC gets replaced by a really super competent leader
C)the Labour Party unites and we have a solid opposition which makes life more difficult for May thus ensuring that she doesn't pass everything unfettered.....

Got to stay positive!

TellMeItsNotTrue · 22/05/2017 15:53

I have, not changed from or to Tory

I've always stuck with the same party in the past and I have made an informed decision each time but in the back of my mind I did wonder if I was one of those people who blindly vote for the same party each time because that's what they've always done, so I sort of feel like I've proven to myself that I have made an informed decision in the past and it's just happened to be the same outcome each time

I know that is totally stupid

bertiesgal · 22/05/2017 15:54

Also, any Tory voters uneasy about the lack of a serious opposition?

OP posts:
JustAnotherPoster00 · 22/05/2017 15:54

Always been a Labour and despaired through the 90's but dutifully still put my cross in the box, this time I'll vote Labour with a smile

FlyingElbows · 22/05/2017 15:55

I'm torn between voting SNP to maintain our Scottish status quo or Labour to try and help oust the Tories.

InfiniteSheldon · 22/05/2017 15:55

Used to vote Liberal SDP Green am voting Tory for the first time don't really like any of the manifestos in their entirety but think it's the best bet for the next five years.

pipsqueak25 · 22/05/2017 15:59

always have been tory since blair took over and not about to change.

CaptainBrickbeard · 22/05/2017 16:02

I was going to vote Lib Dem but the Labour manifesto has confirmed my Labour vote. Was thinking I'd have to vote Labour due to my seat being marginal and needing to vote against the Tories as much as anything else, but now I'm completely behind Labour so it's an easy one for me.

My friend who is a staunch and dedicated Tory who loves May is uneasy about the prospect of a weak opposition- she doesn't want a landslide. She's also pro-Remain, so I think she wants a strong opposition to challenge the Brexit process. It's a complicated election and feels of even more momentous importance than usual. A Tory landslide will be bad for everyone.

mamapants · 22/05/2017 16:02

Interesting you said that flyingelbow I was wondering if many SNP, plaid cymru voters would switch to labour in an attempt to oust the conservatives. I imagine that most would prefer labour in power to conservatives.

BackforGood · 22/05/2017 16:03

I'm inclined to agree with Ryan. Not just on this thread, but in life generally. There was a thread the other day asking who our teen / 20s dc are voting for. I would never ask anyone. I think it's really important that everyone votes for whoever they think will do the best job, even if they think that vote might be 'uncool' or 'unpopular.
I have no problem with people campaigning and trying to persuade people, but I do think it's really important that everyone votes, and that everyone votes for the people they think will do the best job, and not "Oh, there's no point in me voting because the media are reporting it's going to be a landslide" despite the fact the polls were wrong in both the referendum and the last general election.

In terms of if I've change my mind, I haven't, because it was never made up. I always vote, but don't always vote for any particular party. I've not yet decided, tbh...... If anyone can link to a good 'compare the manifesto' or 'compare party policies on the main issues' sight, I'd be interested though Smile

notmaryberry · 22/05/2017 16:04

I was going to vote Lib Dem but having met our local candidates yesterday I'm switching to Labour. Won't make any difference in this safe Con seat, and I still think the Cons will win overall, so it's kind of irrelevant whether you think JC would make a good PM because it's not going to happen, however if Labour can close the gap then TM won't get the landslide she was hoping for.

bertiesgal · 22/05/2017 16:06

Mama, I'm kind of in that group. Labour all of my life then change to SNP mid noughties. If it were a Scottish election I'd vote SNP but as it's UK I want to vote for the best chance of getting May out. The whole thing pains me though and I'm not dyed in the wool SNP. Just want everything back to pre-Brexit normal when politicians fought over stuff like the NHS etc.

OP posts:
RyanStartedTheFire · 22/05/2017 16:06

I don't trust Labour on Trident, NATO and defence in general, and I some of Corbyn's associations leave a very nasty taste in my mouth.
These are also my main reasons for not voting Labour. I'd like to vote Lib Dem as I said but to be honest I do actually worry Labour may get in so I may go back to a Tory vote. There is almost unanimous support from my young age group for JC/labour.

LadyPW · 22/05/2017 16:09

Still voting Tory. No sensible alternative. Corbyn's fantasies would bankrupt us. He seems to think that he can fund everything from taxing the higher paid more - unless there are millions of millionaires in this country I can't see it happening!!

reetgood · 22/05/2017 16:09

Voted labour, still voting labour. It's tactical tbh: it's a labour majority where I live, but by 7000 majority. Ukip took 9000 votes last time and I'd guess mostly from labour. I suspect ukip support will have waned. If ex-ukip vote for tories they'll take the constituency. So voting labour... and trying not to engage in discussion with person I'm doing proxy vote for who's voting lib dem which in our area is just handing a vote to conservatives. I don't think it's ethically sound to try and persuade him, is it. His reasoning is protest on brexit.

LadyPW · 22/05/2017 16:10

Oh yes, and Corbyn's an IRA sympathiser - wouldn't even contemplate voting for him if he was the only choice.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 22/05/2017 16:10

Life long labour voter but live in a safe Tory constituency. Was going to vote for an independent candidate who was campaigning to save our local A&E but she pulled out. So back to voting Labour for me although it will be a waste of time.

FatherJemimaRacktool · 22/05/2017 16:11

Switched from Labour to Lib Dem because of Brexit. It's a Labour/Lib Dem marginal and a massively pro-Remain area so will be very interesting to see what happens.

This is the worst choice of leaders I can ever remember, so not happy about voting for any of them. I wouldn't trust Corbyn, Farron, or May to competently run a stall at a village fete, let alone a government. But thats what we're stuck with.
