I started off thinking I'd vote SNP but I've definitely settled on Labour.

I'm not pretending that any if the available options are perfect but I feel like every time Theresa May talks about Brexit and "stands up" to Europe (our closest ally and trading partner ffs), it's a bit like cringing as a racist out of touch relative starts spouting off at a party and praying to God they don't say anything too damaging for the sake of the family's reputation.

As for strong and stable....

However, I can't pretend that Labour are much better, I just know that their view of society chimes more closely with mine.

I don't want to start a bun fight, I just want to gauge how dramatic this Tory landslide is going to be or if there's still some hope....

Dons hard hat and awaits flaming!

Oh - DH has swung from Tory to Labour, so there's another one

(Disclaimer - I didn't know he was a Tory before I slept with him) Grin

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 22/05/2017 18:23

What I'm always shocked about is people who say "I've always voted Labour, I'm not voting Labour any more" so march straight on past (the libdems etc) and to the Tories.

You do realise that it is those Tory voters that you dont like that Labour needs votes off don't you? Labour needs switches from Tory to Labour.

least UKIP or EDL. hmm

Maybe have a look at what parties people are actually able to vote for. EDL is not one of them!

bertiesgal · 22/05/2017 18:23

Sorry bill Sykes I think you misunderstood my post.

I wasn't saying TM was being racist I was trying to say that I get the same feeling when she talks about Brexit as I do when my uncle who is openly racist starts mouthing off in public. It was a poor example, I was just trying to describe that cringey feeling.

I am not "people with attitudes like that". We are all people living in a little island trying to ensure the best future for our children.

Demonising people I disagree with doesn't help at all-I want to engage and learn from people with opposing views.

We're all human after all (even my racist uncle who refuses to see reason). My wording was poor but please don't lump anybody thinking of voting Labour as a judgemental morally superior bigot. I'm
not, honest but I am tired of all of the whole mess....

BillSykes that may be so. But I think you're making assumptions about my political preference.

catgirl1976 · 22/05/2017 18:24

But then I come on here and see people like the OP throwing around 'racist' at anybody whose views differ slightly from their own.

This from someone who in the same post called 2 political parties "nutters" Hmm

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 22/05/2017 18:25

I wasn't saying TM was being racist I was trying to say that I get the same feeling when she talks about Brexit as I do when my uncle who is openly racist starts mouthing off in public.

That doesn't actually make it any better than what you said originally Hmm

tobee · 22/05/2017 18:26

BillSykes where did I moan? Where did I say the wrong party? I'm just stating those people who go straight from Labour to Tory but I could also say the other way is equally surprising.

Ipigglemustdie · 22/05/2017 18:27

Tory voter here. Mostly because I'm sick of all this artificial cringy momentum bollocks. And I like TM's shoes

DontTouchTheMoustache · 22/05/2017 18:29

I'm torn. I've always voted labour and have had a very labour upbringing (my mum used to hold meetings at our house when I was young and would have us out doing leafleting) but I'm quite torn between lib dem and labour for this election. I am definitely not voting conservative as there are just too many policies that I don't agree with but as it stands I'm undecided and it makes me feel strangely disloyal!

ExplodedCloud · 22/05/2017 18:30

I wouldn't let Momentum put you off tbh. I'm not having any of it and I'm a Labour Party member.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 22/05/2017 18:33

I think it depends where you are. They have been very active here and it has caused many problems.

LadyPW · 22/05/2017 18:34

She is getting a free ride by the press.
Which press have you been reading?!

GogoGobo · 22/05/2017 18:34

I was voting lib dem but after the manifesto's were published I will vote labour and do like JC a little more. I am so mistrusting of the press and think they may have done a bit of a job on him.

ExplodedCloud · 22/05/2017 18:35

Maybe we've got quiet ones round here Grin

tobee · 22/05/2017 18:36

Piglet we've established that I was wrong to put EDL. I wasn't actually making any comment other than, in all my years of watching elections, I'm always surprised when people "walk across the floor" in which ever direction. Of course I'm aware that Thatcher and Blair and those before, between and after need people to do so. Just that I personally find it weird. When I've personally come across people who have gone Tory to Labour, Labour to Tory. That's all.

TeddyIsaHe · 22/05/2017 18:38

No, always Labour and will be this time. I'm in a conservative seat, but a remain majority and Labour has a strong chance of taking it, he is lovely also so would be a double win!

TwentyCups · 22/05/2017 18:39

I've always voted conservative but Theresa mays determination to bring back fox hunting is making me swing the whole way round to labour.

I agree with most conservative policies though. I'm trying to do loads of reading currently to see which party I feel best represents my views. I actually agree with loads of lib dem policies but the candidate here is awful.

makeourfuture · 22/05/2017 18:41

Theresa mays determination to bring back fox hunting

The things they deem important are baffling. Why this?

bertiesgal · 22/05/2017 18:42

Piglet I was just describing my own feelings. Why is that "even worse?".

It's just how I feel about TM. It doesn't mean I think she's racist or that anyone who votes for her is. I just cringe because i don't feel like she is saying anything that I can relate to, yet she's representing my country on the world stage.

I don't want a bun fight or to get personal but I also want to be able to articulate my feelings and understand where I and everyone else is coming from.

Does that make sense?

I was Tory but now labour .. can we all stop thinking it's a wasted vote if we vote for XYZ.. you never know what people will do on the day ..

JustAnotherPoster00 · 22/05/2017 18:43

Clip showing the manifesto u-turn where she claims that the cap was there all along Hmm on the dementia tax and Jeremy C(h)unt saying they were dropping the cap

Doublechocolatetiffin · 22/05/2017 18:47

I'm undecided, I don't want to vote for any of them. There are bits in all the manifestos that I really don't agree with. My vote is unlikely to matter anyway as it's a very safe Tory seat here.

EnglandKeepMyBones · 22/05/2017 18:48

I don't want this question to turn into any sort of bun fight, I'm asking because I'm genuinely curious and won't be getting arsey and sanctimonious to anyone who does answer - a fair few times over the last week I've heard Conservative supporters claim that JC is an IRA supporter and so can vote for him. 1) do you really believe he is an IRA supporter and why? And 2) The Tory councillor for Croydon is an ex member of the IRA - why is that okay?

EnglandKeepMyBones · 22/05/2017 18:49

*cant vote for him. FFS. Feeding baby effects typing.

makeourfuture · 22/05/2017 18:50

I am just happy there is peace!
