I started off thinking I'd vote SNP but I've definitely settled on Labour.

I'm not pretending that any if the available options are perfect but I feel like every time Theresa May talks about Brexit and "stands up" to Europe (our closest ally and trading partner ffs), it's a bit like cringing as a racist out of touch relative starts spouting off at a party and praying to God they don't say anything too damaging for the sake of the family's reputation.

As for strong and stable....

However, I can't pretend that Labour are much better, I just know that their view of society chimes more closely with mine.

I don't want to start a bun fight, I just want to gauge how dramatic this Tory landslide is going to be or if there's still some hope....

Dons hard hat and awaits flaming!

Hasn't TM dropped out of the debate tomorrow now as well and is sending Amber Rudd instead?

A rumour. Nothing has been confirmed.

Squeegle · 28/05/2017 11:59

I also think that Labour achieved many good things, including reducing waiting times for operations to almost nothing. A lot of new schools and public buildings projects were kicked off by labour govt. this isn't happening now is it?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 28/05/2017 12:04

I agree they achieved many good things.

Not so sure about waiting times for operations. Unfortunately I have had many surgeries under different governments. I have had long waiting times and cancellations (including emergencies) under all.

NHS is something that needs an honest discussion without party politics. Neither government has handled it well.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 28/05/2017 12:05

I was undecided but I'm leaning more and more towards Labour, partly due to the candidates I'm able to vote for and partly because the longer this campaign goes on the clearer it becomes that Theresa May is very far from strong and stable.

I have no faith in the Conservative leader or my local Conservative candidate so I won't be voting for them.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 28/05/2017 12:14

Just confirmed Rudd. No Nicola Sturgeon either thought to be Robertson. Labour are yet to name anyone. Rumoured to be McDonnell but could be Abbott now Rudd has been named.

Squeegle · 28/05/2017 12:20

piglet, have a look at this independent audit of the NHS under labour www.kingsfund.org.uk/sites/files/kf/field/field_publication_file/independent-audit-nhs-under-labour-1997–2005-sunday-times-march-2005.pdf. It's very interesting and does show a lot of good outcomes.

ExplodedCloud · 28/05/2017 12:28

Piglet I would very much like the NHS to become an independent entity free from political controls so that it cannot be reorganised for reasons of dogma or political expediency.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 28/05/2017 12:53

I agree Exploded

Thanks Squeegle I'll take a look.

silkybear · 28/05/2017 13:11

Just found out 8pm channel 4 on monday May and Corbyn will take turns with a LIVE studio audience and PAXMAN! grabs popcorn and awaits TM hilarious strong and stable meltdown

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 28/05/2017 13:13

May and Corbyn will take turns with a LIVE studio audience and PAXMAN!

They have done this format before. The audience questions will be pre vetted like QT.

silkybear · 28/05/2017 13:17

She won't stand a chance against paxman though, she can barely handle andrew neil!

Chchchchangeabout · 28/05/2017 13:18

Have previously voted Labour but Corbyn, Abbott etc are so incompetent and have some very dodgy views that I can't do it to the country. Am hoping labour lose badly and sort themselves out in the wake of doing so.

slithytove · 28/05/2017 13:22

Tory all my life, labour this time
I'm stunned at myself but I can't see another option other than spoiling my ballot

tiba · 28/05/2017 13:23

Was Tory, now labour

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 28/05/2017 13:42

She won't stand a chance against paxman though, she can barely handle andrew neil!

Neither of them can.

The whole think will be a car crash.

I just find it awful that these two are the best either party have.

BoysofMelody · 28/05/2017 17:43

Paxman shouldn't be conducting this interview, he's a self-confessed Tory - so much for impartiality and balance. Neil another Tory gave May a relatively soft ride and she still made a blithering idiot of herself.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 28/05/2017 17:46

Neil another Tory gave May a relatively soft ride and she still made a blithering idiot of herself.

He didn't give her a relatively soft ride at all.

In fact there have been complaints from Tory voters that he was too hard on her and soft on Corbyn and vice versa from Labour voters which probably means he is getting it about right.

Paxman isn't anywhere near as good as he used to be. He was heavily criticised after the 2015 QT style interviews so surprised he is doing them again.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/05/2017 17:53

I'm Lib Dem, if Labour were ahead of Lib Dem in this constituency I'd vote for them. As it is, I will do my tiny teeny bit to try and break thr blue deathtrap here.

Perfectplonker · 28/05/2017 17:59

Never changed, still labour.

However am hearing grumblings from my true blue older relatives that:

A) They think Corbyn is being treated unfairly and are sick of Tory's slagging him off for what he might do instead of talking about what the Tory party will do.

B) They were incandescent at the social care changes. The u turn hasn't calmed those feeling at all. They feel she will just sneak thay change in anyway at a later date.

C) Theresa's appearances on tv have really put them off her. My Ddad said that she looked very ruffled and not in control at all when questioned.

Now I'm a lifelong labour voter so I thought those things anyway.

But it's been a real shock to hear that coming from my true blue parents, in laws and aunts/uncles. I've never heard a bad word about the Tory's in my lifetime from them.

If everyone else is as pissed off as they are, Corbyn might just surprise everyone. Even if labour don't win I think it is going to be a hell of a lot closer than predicted.

Squeegle · 28/05/2017 18:39

I just hope that there is enough opposition so that it is a proper strong opposition which will mean all changes have to be thoroughly debated before being pushed through. What scares me most is a Tory landslide where they will have the power to do anything. And TM hasn't got good form for consultation has she

PigletJohn · 28/05/2017 18:43

Dimbleby tried to explain to Damian Green what a "debate" is

Peston loses patience with Green making up alternative facts

Will other interviewers put up with this nonsense?

PigletJohn · 28/05/2017 18:44

Michael Fallon, sorry.

ScipioAfricanus · 28/05/2017 18:53

I like in Tory heartland so my vote is only ever significant to me. I normally vote Green (because I believe Green issues are not adequately addressed by the major parties). Have never voted Labour (Tony Blair came to power the election before I reached voting age) but I will this year: I'm voting for Jeremy Corbyn's 'For the Many' vision. Unfortunately I believe the Tories will succeed not just here but strongly everywhere (I believe they are still underrepresented in the polls and frankly am sick of polls after how misleading they were in the last election and Brexit), and Jeremy Corbin will be ousted and Labour will return to their 'new labour' non-values so I will return to voting Green while the Tories dismantle our society...

ScipioAfricanus · 28/05/2017 19:00

I cannot believe TM is not doing debate herself - it's insulting to the electorate. And if Labour send Diane Abbott I think they will lose all of any of the lead they have as she is not great at thinking on her feet. They should send JC. However somehow Donald Trump won US despite the debates is maybe it doesn't matter. I just feel Nick Clegg in 201 made a big difference so it could be important.
