To ask cat owners for good name suggestions?

Getting a kitten soon. DH doesn't care for cats or their names, four stupid suggestions from DC's. AIBU to think that Play-Doh, Meatballs, Tootsie and Muppet are all truly dire names for a cat that I will have to call -loudly - (not them).

AIBU? If I'm not can cat owners give me some genuine non-twatty suggestions for the new kitten?

TIA.

We got a ginger brother and sister about 6 months ago. I wanted to call them Willow and Spike (huge buggy fan) DS want Fred and Ginger. We compromised and have Fred and Willow. All my pets have had human names except for those that came from rescue places. Max, Daisy, Sam, Bonnie. I really like Dave for a cat but I have too many mates called Dave !

Our pets have always had place names, as suggested by Jilly Cooper who had a dog called Sevenoaks

I followed a Shakespearean theme for a while, then adopted a Winston (I like to think of him as Winston Purrrchill), so when we decided to give Winston a friend (like all old cats want...), we looked for something suitably war-time. After a very amusing evening of friends sending me wartime cat pun names (Clement Catlee, Kitler, Pussolini etc), we ended up with a Perseus, know as Percy (Purr-ceus), as my DS was studying Ancient Greeks at school, and DD was obsessed with the Percy Jackson books.

We've only ever been able to bring ourselves to call cats 'proper' names like Sam, Max, Lucy and Leo, although I did have a Pippin once (it was Pippa but she turned out to be a he!!)

Rodney!

Catarina, we named her after Edgar Allen Poe's beloved cat. Funny as his cat used to sit on his shoulder while he worked and our Catarina does the same with DH.

Grey cat names...Mog? Smokey?

DD aged 4 suggested Rainbow Kitty/Tundra/Toulouse/Thomas O' Malley...we went with Tommy Grin

Someone on the next street from us has two burmese that visit us quite often - they are called Mr Brown and Mr Grey, because one is brown and one is grey, but before we knew their real names, we called them Bournville and Smokey.

Two of ours are named after places we have been on holiday, and they're actually quite good cat names in their own right.

Athome77 · 23/05/2017 09:02

Oscar, Smudge

BoysofMelody · 23/05/2017 09:10

It's grey with grey eyes.

Lord Greystroke or M'Lady (from Dogtanian and the Muskehounds)

Then there's the old classics, Chairman Meow or Mrs Slocombe.

BoysofMelody · 23/05/2017 09:16

Winston Purrrchill

Our cat is addressed as Purr Majesty, at the moment she's looking particularly regal and is sat next to me licking her backside.

AnneElliott · 23/05/2017 09:29

I have a Gizmo and Lizzie.

TyrionLannistersShadow · 23/05/2017 10:09

It's grey with grey eyes our rescue cat is grey and white and when we adopted her she had been originally named Liath (pronounced the same as the name Leah ie Lee-ah) . It means grey in Irish and might suit?

Casschops · 23/05/2017 11:59

Mine are are Colin and Alfie but my friends cat is Simon.

Chickenagain · 23/05/2017 12:03

I love Percy as a cat name Grin

littlesos · 23/05/2017 12:05

We have Summer (black cat) and Annie,(tabby and white). Both named by the rescue centre and stuck, although Annie mostly gets called "Tiny Cat", she was the runt of the litter.
