To ask you to name the best hotel you've ever stayed in?

I love hotels. The best I've ever stayed in is probably a toss up between the Shard in London (Shangri-La) or Phu Petra in Krabi, Thailand.

Do you have any memorable (for the right reasons) hotel stays? Currently trying to organise this years holiday and can't decide on hotels.

On the contrary, the worst was a hotel (so called) in koh Pangan which was an absolute hell hole. Concrete shack with a concrete block topped with a mucky old mattress for a bed! I cried!

The Four Seasons in Geneva 😄

I've stayed at The Endsleigh as well many years ago now. Was wonderful.
Don Alfonso Xiii in Seville
Hotel Negresco in Nice
Smaller hotel rather than outright luxury - Hotel Amadeus Seville but was really interesting music place with lovely rooms.

RJnomore1 · 21/05/2017 23:22

We also stayed in a yacht hotel in London which I really liked but that may have been the novelty too!

RedastheRose · 21/05/2017 23:24

The Goring (the posh one Kate Middleton's family stayed at before her wedding). Had silk wallpaper and was so luxurious. Also second best was the Palladio Hotel in Venice.

nursy1 · 21/05/2017 23:24

Also heard very good things about Soneva Resorts from friends. Especially the one in Maldives with retracting roof

Hidingtonothing · 21/05/2017 23:28

The Grosvenor in Chester, stayed there for our engagement, twas very grand for people who are more used to a Travelodge Blush

somewhereovertherain · 21/05/2017 23:29

La Samana on st. Martin the best
Uk the Victoria park plaza in London

Worst

Uk joint between Cambridge House, Millom and the Travelodge Bradford

World - Hotel Byron somewhere in Greece between Athens and ferry to Corfu - near a train station was very cheap

bananafish81 · 21/05/2017 23:37

@LadyOfTheCanyon the reading rooms is owned and run by my friend and her husband. It's such a fab place!

HarrietSchulenberg · 21/05/2017 23:38

RJnomore1 Knockinaam Lodge is literally just down the lane from my dream home. I've not stayed at the hotel but love the area and know it well.

My beat hotel is The Manor House at Castle Combe. I still wax lyrical about the amazing mattress: felt hard as a rock but I woke up feeling like I'd had a massage.
Also The Merrion in Dublin.

nina2b · 21/05/2017 23:39

Gleneagles.

GuiltyPleasure · 21/05/2017 23:42

I've never really had a bad hotel experience but my top 5 favourites, in no particular order & for different reasons have been:
Cipriani - Venice
Pineapple Beach - Antigua
Sensatori - Ibiza
Tamarijn - Aruba
The Surrey - New York

sandgrown · 21/05/2017 23:47

Stayed in a fabulous place in.Montenegro called Sveti Stefan. The whole island is a hotel. Many celebrities stayed there in the 1960s.We visited just after the Balkan war when the hotel was on its uppers but we had a fab time. It has now been taken over by Amman Resorts and is sadly out of our price range.

theclick · 21/05/2017 23:53

Ah yes I loved the Cipriani in Venice

But I got engaged there and my now DH booked a suite for it. It was a lovely experience.

FinnegansCake · 21/05/2017 23:54

Tamerza Palace, Tamerza, Tunisia.
Great atmosphere and absolutely breathtaking views. Even my reluctant teenagers were impressed. It's situated not far from the amazing Chott el Jerid, a massive salt lake/plain and just a short drive from the desert. Unforgettable.

MountainDweller · 21/05/2017 23:59

Tanjung rhu on Langkawi
Cobblers Cove, Barbados

kel1493 · 22/05/2017 00:01

Hotel Gotham on Manchester. We spent the night there for our 2nd wedding anniversary in April. Was beautiful. We don't usually stay in fancy hotels like that, so was a lovely change.

LesLavandes · 22/05/2017 00:04

All Bustan Palace, Oman
Jumby Bay, Antigua
The Fullerton, Singapore
The Palace, NYC
The Gritti Palace, Venice
The St Géran, Mauritius

WhatWouldDarylDixonDo · 22/05/2017 00:09

Banyan Tree Seychelles - we had a private beach front villa. I would consider selling a DC to go back thereWink
Bovey Castle in Devon.

GlitteryGlitter · 22/05/2017 00:11

The Taj Mahal palace hotel in Mumbai every single detail was perfect and it is so beautiful.

We love the banyan tree in Bangkok

HollaHolla · 22/05/2017 00:14

Fullerton in Singapore (work - could never afford/justify it myself!)
Lebua at State Tower in Bangkok - which then showed up as the open air bar in the Hangover II.
Cathedral Peak resort on the South Africa/Lesotho border. A proper drive to get there, but well worth it with lodges, great food, and the most amazing views around the Drakensburg.

HicDraconis · 22/05/2017 03:04

I wasn't that taken with Marina Bay Sands in Singapore (though the infinity pool was fun & I was fairly high up so a good view of the "trees" from my room). Friends stayed at the Raffles which I think would have been a better option.

Am not a huge fan of hotels in any case, much prefer my own home ☺️

OlennasWimple · 22/05/2017 03:19

The Carlyle in NY - just bliss

hellokittymania · 22/05/2017 03:34

La Residence hotel and spa in Hue,

The worst was probably the Bungalo's near the dock on koh tao. got extremely sick, and had to be accompanied by a doctor and then taken by ambulance to the hospital on Ko Samui. So many dogs, dengue carrying mosquitoes and bad water. I love ko tao though so can't get too upset. I read somebody's blog though and they said that the similar Bungalo looked like something from a crime scene. Very true! Grin

Word of caution though, DO NOT get dengue on ko tao.
