To ask you to name the best hotel you've ever stayed in?

I love hotels. The best I've ever stayed in is probably a toss up between the Shard in London (Shangri-La) or Phu Petra in Krabi, Thailand.

Do you have any memorable (for the right reasons) hotel stays? Currently trying to organise this years holiday and can't decide on hotels.

On the contrary, the worst was a hotel (so called) in koh Pangan which was an absolute hell hole. Concrete shack with a concrete block topped with a mucky old mattress for a bed! I cried!

Six senses Zighy Bay, Oman.
Clivedon.

The Mandarin in Hong Kong half a lifetime ago. One of the World's Great Hotels. The ex and I treated ourselves to a weekend there just before we came home after three years in Singapore in the early 1970s. Absolutely luxurious, hedonistic luxury. Marble jacuzzi on the balcony, all that kind of stuff. Lovely. Grin

A favourite now, The Dude in Berlin. Quiet, outside it looks like a private house. Inside it feels like a private house hosting friends, fabulous food, quietly friendly and attentive people, marvellous attention to the individual details, stylish in Berlin's very individual way, comfortable and relaxing. Stag and hen do's definitely not catered for. My goto in the city when I'm not staying with friends.

Shutters on the Beach at Santa Monica is my favorite.

MGM Grand in Las Vegas was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. They kept checking random people into our room during our stay and giving them our room key. Then they checked us out and wouldn't let us charge anything to the room. When I complained I was told it was my fault. I can't see how. I didn't ask for John and Tiffany to be given a room key to our room. The room was dark green and dismal, the hotel looked like it should smell of damp, the staff were rude and unfriendly (although I must admit by the time the third person was checked into the room I was getting a bit snippy).

It caught fire shortly after our stay. I think I looked like Grumpy Cat saying 'Good!' for about two days on hearing that.

Whowouldknow, most expensive hotel I've stayed in (Shangri-La, Shard) was around £550 a night. There are cheaper rooms though, if you get advance purchase on stardard room (which would still be luxury in the Shard) you can pay as little as £350 a night I think

Hospes Las Casas Del Rey De Baeza in Seville. It's a traditional Andalusian building in the old town, we loved it.

Serendipper · 21/05/2017 22:32

I stayed in a hotel called absolute bliss is Santorini, I happened to book an amazing deal as every other time I have looked the price has been outrageous but the breakfast, service and private terrace with hot tub was amazing!

MinesaLattecino · 21/05/2017 22:33

It's not always about the ££ whowouldknow. Some of my most disappointing have been very expensive - like what used to be Sydney Blue, now www.ovolohotels.com.au/, really didn't feel at home there at all.

Crumbs1 · 21/05/2017 22:34

Earls Regency was in February this year about £300 per night.
Hotel du Palais was last September and around £750 per night but only roughly as we paid in Euros.
I think it varies enormously depending on high/low season, type of room, length of stay.

Scalloway Hotel on Shetland . Best fish EVER .

eurochick · 21/05/2017 22:37

Lux in the Maldives was pretty special.

The Shangri la rasa ria in Borneo was lovely too.

Seahawk80 · 21/05/2017 22:37

Banyan tree Bangkok is a bit of a funny location - go to the rooftop bar though and have dinner at Nam at the metropolitan next door.

Shangri la is my go to in Bangkok - fantastic and the best location. Peninsular is probably the best hotel in the city but unless you can get a deal the Shangri la would be my choice. Go for a river view room or a river view with balcony.

MsGameandWatch · 21/05/2017 22:37

Most of mine are five star but they're in places that offer great deals because the area is so competitive. In the UAE, amazing hotels are they norm and they can't fill them so you can get the most amazing hotels for ludicrously low prices.

Tissunnyupnorth · 21/05/2017 22:39

Oyster box, Umhlanga, South Africa.

FauxPasadena · 21/05/2017 22:40

The Joule in Dallas.

Everything was so clean and modern but classy, Taschen book shop in the lobby, speakeasy cocktail bar, Apple TV in the room and the most amazing pool I've ever swum in! Oh and brisket burgers delivered to the room Grin

The dollar one has just reminded me that I stayed somewhere in Sydney with a rooftop pool that you could see harbour bridge from. Hotel was pretty good, not amazing but the swimming pool was awesome
