To ask you to name the best hotel you've ever stayed in?

I love hotels. The best I've ever stayed in is probably a toss up between the Shard in London (Shangri-La) or Phu Petra in Krabi, Thailand.

Do you have any memorable (for the right reasons) hotel stays? Currently trying to organise this years holiday and can't decide on hotels.

On the contrary, the worst was a hotel (so called) in koh Pangan which was an absolute hell hole. Concrete shack with a concrete block topped with a mucky old mattress for a bed! I cried!

Covent Garden Hotel in London. I've not really stayed in many tbh.

MrsFring · 21/05/2017 22:10

Clivedon.

FuckyNell · 21/05/2017 22:10

The crescent hotel in bath

I'm surprised at people saying the Shang in KL. It's not a bad hotel but not somewhere I think is outstanding. But I stay there on business so maybe it's tainted in my mind by that! If staying in KL for pleasure, I'm happier at Traders (love that fabulous Petronas Tower view and the Sky Bar).

Hotel pick-up 20US$ old style jeep.
Khmer French colonial architecture.
Hire a tuk tuk outside for day trips.

Traders in KL or the shangri-la tajung aru in Borneo.
Didn't stay there but the Bellagio & Caesers Palace in Vegas looked fab

JollySmelly · 21/05/2017 22:15

Definitely the St Regis in Mauritius. The suite was bigger than my house! In fact, the bath may have been bigger than my house Grin
After that, the Gritti Palace in Venice. Real luxury!

rubybleu · 21/05/2017 22:17

The Shard Shangri-la, Grosvenor House Dubai, Okonjima in Namibia and The Royal Madikwe.

For anyone taking on board the recommendations for W NewYork - there are a few so choose carefully! The W Midtown is amongst the worst hotels I've stayed in, it's utterly grim.

Truckingalong · 21/05/2017 22:17

The Forbury in Reading and the St Regis in Bangkok.

Freyanna · 21/05/2017 22:18

Quinta Jardins du Lago in Madeira was lovely to visit. Beautiful gardens, very peaceful.

rubybleu · 21/05/2017 22:18

Has anyone stayed in Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, whilst we're on the topic?

HoldBackTheRain · 21/05/2017 22:18

In all seriousness, Margarets Private Hotel in Blackpool North. Google it - really lovely family that run it. Highly reccomend, especially if you're looking for somewhere to stay for the Illumination weekend in September!

MinesaLattecino · 21/05/2017 22:19

Hotel on Rivington, NY.
A few years since we went but the most fantastic beds & showers ever, we had a corner room with incredible views over the city. God I loved it.

Lake Palace Udaipur, India.
Utterly beautiful grounds, although the room was small, and amazing approach - you take a boat across the river and they scatter you with rose petals as you disembark. Like a film set. Unfortunately DH and I were only there for one night and recovering from a tummy upset so although I look unusually slim in all the photos we didn't get to enjoy the special dinner!

Rightpivotturn · 21/05/2017 22:22

My faves are Ballynahinch Castle in Co. Galway, Loch Torridan in Scotland and the Bath Priory hotel.

Gingersstuff · 21/05/2017 22:23

The Old Winter Palace in Luxor, Egypt. Absolutely beautiful and the service was impeccable.
Second the Maison Arabe in Marrakech as well.

FatFacedDog · 21/05/2017 22:25

Msgameandwatch, we're the same - always like an airport hotel for the night before we fly!

Last one was The Carlton, Manchester Airport - highly recommended! (Radisson Blu was fully booked 😁)

Best - Parador in the alhambra at full moon - all about the location, v small hotel - at the time (~15yr ago) was surprised we didn't have to book that far ahead.
Worst - original quaker oats grain mill in Akron ohio in February - the rooms had curved walls - grain silo - but thin - grain silo - ineffective storage heaters - lake effect snow - never been so cold in a hotel

whowouldknow · 21/05/2017 22:26

Can I ask - what sort of price range are the hotels that are amazing. I have only ever been disappointed in hotels - I wonder if girls are just not me-or am I just not spending enough! I know it will vary depending on location-but would be interesting to know!

MinesaLattecino · 21/05/2017 22:28

Loved these two in South of France too:
www.bellesrives.com/ Antibes
www.toileblanche.com/ Paul de Vence
Massively sentimental memories of Toile Blanche, sniff!

IDismyname · 21/05/2017 22:29

The Limewood Hotel in the New Forest. Stayed there several times, and love it there.

mashpot · 21/05/2017 22:29

Oh yes - the Rivington in New York was amazing - fab bathroom. That's where my husband proposed, v happy memories.
