To ask you to name the best hotel you've ever stayed in?

I love hotels. The best I've ever stayed in is probably a toss up between the Shard in London (Shangri-La) or Phu Petra in Krabi, Thailand.

Do you have any memorable (for the right reasons) hotel stays? Currently trying to organise this years holiday and can't decide on hotels.

On the contrary, the worst was a hotel (so called) in koh Pangan which was an absolute hell hole. Concrete shack with a concrete block topped with a mucky old mattress for a bed! I cried!

I've never stayed anywhere really flash - but agree, W in New York is fab. In this country - the Treehouses at Chewton Glen and the Goring In London.

The Raffles hotel in Singapore is perfect and The Delano in Miami is uber cool and the poolside atmosphere is just incredible. Just love it.

Holiday Inn Express at Slough.

I tell you what though, you can't go wrong with a Premier Inn, cheap with unbelievably comfortable beds, great breakfast where kids eat free. We always stay in an airport one the night before we fly and it always gets things off to a good start.

The Milestone in Kensington is our favourite London hotel. It's right opposite Kensington Gardens. You can have afternoon tea in the park, if you fancy it and the waiters carry over all the things in a basket and come and collect it when you've finished. It's fab!

Anantara Rasananda on Ko Phangan, Thailand.

Gleneagles.....particularly if you eat at Andrew Fairlie's restaurant there.

Corinthia Hotel in Malta. We'd actually booked staff rate at a different brand but they outbooked us. The corinthia then upgraded us to a suite....we paid 20 quid a night, god knows what our company paid.

The Sleve Donard in Newcastle Northern Ireland. So relaxing and comfortable. Food is great. Quite pricy tho, but nice for a treat!

Always wanted to stay there, or the Merchant. Stayed at Galgorm and Fitzwilliam abs they were both lovely.

The Palace of the Golden Horses, near Kuala Lumpur. Genuinely treat people like royalty - it is where the Queen has stayed when visiting Malaysia. Absolutely incredible service and nothing was too much trouble. They'd remember tiny details about things and then ask about eg. how our trip to the elephant sanctuary was (when it was a different concierge we'd told in the morning on the way out!)

One and only kanahura in the Maldives.... Noe just Kanahura I think, no longer in the One and Only group. Nothing better in the world ( since having 3 kids it's a distant, distant memory...!)

WorriedLAC · 21/05/2017 22:03

Burj Al Arab, Dubai
The Datai, Langkawi
Ashford Castle, Ireland

Autumnchill, we had a night in the same room at the Witchery about 12 years ago and were hugely dissapointed! Water to the bathroom was only ever lukewarm for our entire stay so we couldnt have a bath, the heating was on full blast and they couldnt turn it down and if we opened the windows the sounds of the drunks on the streets below kept us awake. Most underwhelming experience ever....and we'd looked forward to it for months!

Yas Viceroy on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi was pretty amazing too. It has a formula one track that races round and underneath the hotel, DS was beside himself.

Jakeyboy1 · 21/05/2017 22:06

Sensatori Tenerife (which is actually a Grand Meliá but Thompson call
It Sensatori) everything is divine, even the smell! (Hate Tenerife but this place is in a different league)

Been to the Burj al Arab for the day which was lovely in some ways but just weird and fake in others.

Another for the Shangri La in Kuala Lumpar as being one of my favourites. We were upgraded to a massive suite on a complimentary basis.

Also loves the Andaman in Lang Kawi, it's on a beach with a rainforest behind. So in addition to being one of the world's most beautiful places it also was surrounded by monkeys and other animals/birds
