I love hotels. The best I've ever stayed in is probably a toss up between the Shard in London (Shangri-La) or Phu Petra in Krabi, Thailand.

Do you have any memorable (for the right reasons) hotel stays? Currently trying to organise this years holiday and can't decide on hotels.

On the contrary, the worst was a hotel (so called) in koh Pangan which was an absolute hell hole. Concrete shack with a concrete block topped with a mucky old mattress for a bed! I cried!

Hotel Estherea on Singel Canal, Amsterdam. It also had the most luxuriously comfortable bed I have ever been in.

St James Court hotel London - perfect room and great service. It's the only hotel I'd stay in when in London
The Grand Hotel Brighton - gorgeous decor
Royal Crescent Hotel Bath - stayed in the Jane Austen suite which sat on a lovely garden. So relaxing.

The Grand Hotel - St Annes - lancashire

Woodall in South Africa; amazing

Oh and the Deevana Plaza in Krabi. Pool entry rooms, where my kids woke up, put on swimming costumes and jumped into the pool, just perfect.

Crowne Plaza around Gloucester Rd station...gorgeous garden.

Costacoffeeplease · 21/05/2017 21:42

Shutters on the beach in Santa Monica

clapyourhandsandwhistle · 21/05/2017 21:44

The Savoy
Peninsular Paris
Banyan Tree Phuket
Chewton Glen
Royal Palm Mauritius

I would love to stay in an Aman Resort

And the worst was Radio City Apartments in New York. Rude staff, window looked out into a grubby courtyard with a big noisy air con unit running up wall just outside. Directly opposite was an apartment where we could see a couple shagging so I had to keep the curtains drawn at all times so kids didn't see. Just awful depressing place that looked like it hadn't been refurbished since 1970.

About 20 years ago a hotel called the diplomat in Bahrain.

Best - honeymoon suite of Waterberry Lodge, on the banks of the Zambezi River in Zambia. Worst - a place in London near Kings Cross - I've blanked out the name - stained bedding and heavy bass thumping through the wall.

toffeeboffin · 21/05/2017 21:45

The Sport Hotel in Andorra was great.

Waldorf Astoria in NY.

Hotel Monaco in Washington DC... staff beyond amazing, got upgraded to a suite, had a gold fish as a pet for our stay and the staff left the most amazing note for us about a gig we had mentioned in passing.

In joint first place was the historic oak hill inn in Natchez - fresh mint julep and home made cookie on arrival, amazing historic home with the most fabulous hosts, four poster bed, tree frogs and a five course breakfast I would give anything to have again (served on antique crockery).

Just noticed you said you're looking for one in Bangkok. We stayed at The Lebua, which was pretty awesome. It's where the Hangover 2 was filmed and we actually watched the movie while we were there. Maybe even from the same suite as the view from the window appeared to be same.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 21/05/2017 21:48

Two from honeymoon-
The Cipriani in Venice
The Villa D'Este on Lake Como....
Never wanted to leave ;)

The Imperial in Delhi. An absolute oasis in a crazy city, beautiful colonial art and architecture, amazing food, and charming staff.

And a taverna on a tiny bay in Corfu which rented out basic rooms very cheaply. The view was to die for and the food out of this world. It beat, hands down, the 5* hotel in Santorini we went to the following week that cost six times the price.

mashpot · 21/05/2017 21:51

Four Seasons Morroco, Lucknam Park and Coworth Park in UK. Haven't stayed anywhere as nice as these three in ages 😟

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 21/05/2017 21:51

In England we love The Idle Rocks in St Mawes. It's right by the water and service, food and rooms are amazing. Go for a sea view- they have window seats-so you can watch the world go by.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 21/05/2017 21:51

Nayara in Costa Rica.

Mazmamm · 21/05/2017 21:52

Datai in Langkawi.
Worst was a motel in San Fran after a late night, last minute road trip stop. The Captain. I slept on top of the bed covers in my clothes. Rank.

Egg · 21/05/2017 21:52

A third vote for the Datai in Langkawi. Totally amazing location in the jungle, next to the beach. The food was outstanding. The staff were excellent. Everything about our holiday was perfect.

redrobinblue · 21/05/2017 21:53

Zoo Hotel in Berlin & Palazzo Paraguay in Milan.

Egg · 21/05/2017 21:53

Oh fourth vote! Cross posts.

RockyBird · 21/05/2017 21:54

The Shard Shangri La (huuuuuuuuuge 49th floor room) and The Bellagio are my two favourites.

Saying that the Shangri La breakfast wasn't great for a hotel of that standard.
