I just pull up from the sides.

Actually, I have some old Sloggis where the elastic band has started to separate from the cotton part. But they are many years old, and I have pt on considerable weight.

I think you need to hook your fingers under the lower edge at the side, then pull.

For the life of me, I have no idea what my knicker-putting-on style is, but I've never put a finger through them.

How long are your nails?!

How weird. I do it with tights, trying to hoik them up so the gusset doesn't hang like a hammock inches below my undercarriage, but never knickers. And I have a very big arse!

Cut your nails off?? My knickers are shameful. they get holes in through age.....

I suspect it's the way you grab them and pull them up.
I tend to put my thumbs between my skin and the knickers to separate them from the bum and then basically lift them.
But if you simply push them with the tips of your fingers against your skin then pull them up, for example, it will stress the fabric and eventually make holes.

I actually make the holes I feel my finger or thumb go through. Thinking about it it happens less when my nails are long.

In the interests of science, I've just moved away from the window, slipped trousers down and tried a few experimental ups and downs. I think thumbs on inside with pulling up whole wedge of the side at once is best way forward.

I sometimes put my fingers through pants too. it is very annoying. I seem to go through the seam on Sloggis, The side seam on the Tanga ones, it sits slightly to the front. Where do you get your Sloggis, for a start? I've seen mumblings on Amazon about a distinct variation in quality depending on country of manufacture.

You're probably washing them in particularly toxic stuff that rots the fabric.

This has never once happened to me, even with paper thin old keks that should have been chucked years ago.

There's probably a few mumsnetters shuffling their pants up and down in a puzzled way. It's hard to be sure what you do subconsciously. I think thumb instead (fingers maybe go round the bunched up sides and also under but with thumb providing the main pull )

So, you put fingers inside then lift (or push up) with the tips of your fingers?
I suspect with longer nails you'll keep the fingers straight and just lift using the force of friction against the skin of your fingers rather than the tips forcing it up. Not sure if I can explain it properly.

The only thing I can think of is you're buying miniature size clothes for a normal size person and you're forcing them on.

How the fuck are you doing it with fingers on the insides? Are your hands on backwards?
Try thumbs on the inside, fingers on the outside and bunch the knicker sides before your fingers and thumbs meet.

OP, I wear Sloggi bra tops and I destroy those too - although one of these I admit have lasted me 12 years....
