To suck the snot out of your child's nose and swallow it. Or spit it, for that matter. I just heaved watching a woman do this to her snotty toddler this afternoon at soft play. Hmm

HumpHumpWhale · 19/05/2017 17:02

I did it with both babies up to about 7 ish months but not with a toddler, as they don't get so congested they can't breathe, and not in public.

muckypup73 · 19/05/2017 17:02

I was eating my tea whilst reading this, I nearly spewed..............

TheMasterNotMargarita · 19/05/2017 17:03

I've been doing this to DS for the last 4 weeks.
He started nursery. He caught cold and can't blow his nose, can't breathe while feeding.
Saline drops don't really do too much to thick gooey snot.
Snot sucker was hurting his wee nostrils.
So I suck it out and spit it away.
It's baby snot not arsenic.
When DD was a baby she was sick in my.mouth. I'd rather have the snot thanks.
I wouldn't do it out and about but it's a bit nasty when she's obviously only trying to help her child.

notgivingin789 · 19/05/2017 17:06

(Shrug) pretty normal in my culture. Not really a big deal.

kali110 · 19/05/2017 17:08

This absolutely vile.
Made me heave, cheers Envy

kali110 · 19/05/2017 17:08

Hahaha I forget how delicate and precious western people are.
Or it's just rank

HoldBackTheRain · 19/05/2017 17:09

This thread should have a trigger warning because my stomach's not felt right since I saw it!

MuncheysMummy · 19/05/2017 17:10

I've done it to my DS lots of times when he was tiny and had a nasty cold and hadn't yet begun mouth breathing I did spit it out though! Yes it's disgusting but equally it it made him feel much better and that's the most important thing!

kali110 · 19/05/2017 17:12

liz70 · 19/05/2017 17:14

Jesus, there should be a warning in your thread title, OP. That is fucking bogging.
Ewwwww. Envy (puking)

Juanca · 19/05/2017 17:15

A trigger warning? Hmm

LouHotel · 19/05/2017 17:18

My first thought is to be horrified but im on day 4 of no sleep with my DD whose heavily congested l, if i get to day 7 i could be persuaded....

muckypup73 · 19/05/2017 17:23

HoldBackTheRain, where theres blame, theres a claim lol

GahBuggerit · 19/05/2017 17:23

Trigger warnings ffs Grin

I've done this, not swallowed tho obvs otherwise dp would question my shit gag reflex excuse Wink

I'll seriously think about deregging if a trigger warning is added to this.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 19/05/2017 17:23

I did this when my baby was tiny - he couldn't breath he was so blocked up with phlegm and was too tiny to 'blow' his nose. He just kept breathing it all back in and choking on it - it was awful - he was so ill. The doctor advised it - it worked. I didn't swallow it though.
He's 16 now and can blow his own nose.
I'm not disgusting - I just loved my baby.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/05/2017 17:26

I've stopped reeling. Stuff like this just cannot be unlearned. Every days a school day. Envy

WetsTheFinger · 19/05/2017 17:27

For those saying it's a delicate westerner thing to find this gross.. i'm Israeli and grew up with Jews and arabs and Slavic Jews and all sorts, so not just a westerner phobia! I've never seen it before!

Onemore - I could actually feel the relief from my dc when it was cleared up. So worth 2 seconds of "ewwww"

Understand others may not want to do it but Christ some of the responses on here are a bit dramatic!

WetsTheFinger · 19/05/2017 17:31

Oh and I'm a vet and usually fairly hard to gross out. But i realised my limit today Grin

OP posts:
uncoolnn · 19/05/2017 17:31

Do people actually do this!?

FeckinTerrified · 19/05/2017 17:33

I did it for my baby when he couldnt breathe. Really, a no brainer if nothing else is available.....it has to be an emergency though, cannot imagine doing that voluntarily, or because theres no tissue!

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 19/05/2017 17:33

Yes couldn't agree more - for it be referred to as disgusting and vile is rather silly. It was a really effective method of clearing the airways and really not that bad.

kali110 · 19/05/2017 17:40

I think people are reffering to the 'eating of it' as the vile part

GahBuggerit · 19/05/2017 17:49

Op themself said "or spit it for that matter" with plenty of people agreeing.

Like I say fine to not want to do it yourself but bit harsh and over the top to say it's sick, she's a dirty bitch, file etc

xFreePeaceSweetx · 19/05/2017 18:00

My Jamaican SIL did this to my ds when he was 4 weeks old with a bad cold. I was horrified initially but when I saw the relief cross his face and he was finally able to sleep I was so grateful to her. I've done it myself since through a piece of thin fabric though.
