To consider the Conservatives' manifesto pretty decent on the whole?

Pretty decent in terms in principles, that is ... as so often with manifestos it's too thin on costings

I came across this article re: ivory trading. The argument is basically use 3D printers to reproduce ivory that is indistinguishable from the real product, maintain strict anti poaching regs and by flooding the market with "product" the price should fall thus reducing the profitability in poaching.

I'm still trying to get my head round it but was an interesting read over coffee!

Two4One2017 Is this your response to the Tories dumping yet another manifesto pledge (under Cameron) in banning the ivory trade? Would rather line up with every environmental agency including the WWF and Prince William who support the ban over this one rather than a pal of Theresa May who has been lobbying to dump it. .

The EU (of course) are set on banning all raw ivory. How marvellous for the Tories that they'll be able to do more favours for their mates rather than having to deal with these pesky legislations protecting our environmental heritage.

Don't be stupid.

citroenpresse · 24/05/2017 15:41

hippy1952 that's about as nuanced a reply as the Tory manifesto is to transparent policy making.

Two4One2017 · 24/05/2017 18:24

No it's not. I thought people might be interested. Hmm

I am shocked the ban has been dropped and don't support that at all so was looking for reasons why they might possibly suggest it in the manifesto and whether there was any justification.

citroenpresse · 24/05/2017 18:39

two4One2017 I don't think it can be 'justified' in the way we would all hope environmental polict could be justified ie with international cooperation and reasoning. A response to lobbying. If you have no ethical basis but just talk about 'good deals' why worry about EU standards and citizen and worker rights. WTO? yuk.

Two4One2017 · 24/05/2017 19:57

Citroen - who knows why it's in there. I can't justify it either. We agree. I hope that was clear from my posts all along - the reason I posted the article was to see if anyone thought it might be a good idea to try and reduce the "value" of real ivory by flooding the market with 3D printed ivory. Kind of wished I hadn't bothered now.....

citroenpresse · 24/05/2017 21:14

I hope not Two4One2017 and I hope I didn't come over all hostile but real ivory is rather the point..3D printing might be marvellous for heart valves or buildings but it won't stop poachers.
