To be pissed off with the queues for women's loos?

Aibu to get pissed off? This is an interesting article on womens loos vrs mens. I get quite irate about this. From getting off an aeroplane to see the huge queue at women's loos, same often at service stations, nightclubs, concerts. I was at a recent posh sporting event and it was bad enough going in that the women had a longer wait going through security but once inside going to the loo ended in a 20 minute wait whilst the men just walked in and out, glancing over at us as all the women just stood quietly. Now some venues are changing the women's loos to gender neutral so open to all but still keeping seperate loos with urinals for men which is making women queue even longer. Why do we just queue, say nothing and accept this? Is it just me that gets annoyed (mild) at this?

I can not work out what you are pissed off about, Men are quicker when they piss as they don't have to sit down, shut the door, remove clothing, change sanitary wear etc. Its not a conspiracy that Women and made to queue and men aren't.

Use the gents. Say you're non-binary.

Women normally take longer entering a venue because bags are searched. Men don't bring handbags out with them.

I always thought ladies toilets take longer because 3 ladies will go in one together spend ages gossiping, block the mirror taking selfies, maybe reapply makeup and then continue a conversation then exit. Men just whip it out, piss, put it away and off they go.

It's a good point though and one I've not thought about before. If the demand for women's loos is higher, why do places still have toilets split 50:50?!

A lot of women just take an age when in the loo so obviously they would have a longer queue.

Men get the job done quicker

Can't really say it's ever annoyed me, some women take 15 minutes to see so that means I will be queuing

I'm all for a slow wee if no ones waiting. But if you know there is a huge queue, why, out of common decency and respect, can you not nip in and do all the clothes pulling down, zipping back up afterwards etc, as quickly as possible?

What thatwhichwecallarose said above, we should either have more women's loos or no gender split at all.

I always thought women take longer because they need to find a way to use a dirty toilet whereas men can just pee standing. And that's not taking into account any additional time for changing and disposing of sanitary products, etc.

I wonder if majority of architects/designers are male. Wonder if men took as long as women (in the cubicles not at the mirrors) then they would still design them the same - if they were waiting and women just breezed innand out.

Yes, period msnsgement - also the fact that women often have babies/children with them and young boys will be taken or told to use the women's.

I agree with you OP and I don't buy the argument that it's women's fault for taking longer. Yes, this is a known factor so here's a thought: design buildings with it in mind and put in more loos for women so that it doesn't take hours. It's just not hard. Except that the world is designed around men and we are all socialized to accept it.

I'd rather queue, and have the privacy meself.

I am not jealous of men having to use communal facilities.

I really thing that unisex loos are the way to go, with cubicles for all.

Makes family days/evenings out much easier too, when you are alone with a child of 8ish of the opposite sex who is averse to going anywhere alone.

But in airports, events etc - it's well known, even exoexted that women will have long queues - why have they never thought to address this i wonder.

Yes, it annoys me too. Everyone knows it takes women longer for various reasons, so design buildings with more women's loos than men's. It's not rocket science!

Hallowed, do you mean unisex loos as in seperate individual rooms or communal stall types? If stalls would you be ok being a lone woman with only men in the loo?

Yes, buildings are mostly designed by white, middle-aged, able-bodied, non-encumbered-by-small-children men.

Therfore, they have very little understanding of the issues women face with loos. Hence the 50/50 split because if you consider absolutely nothing practical, that's "fair".

That's why we need more diversity in more 'good' jobs.

I read somewhere (maybe MN actually..) that you can tell if a male architect has designed the building/toilets as the cubicles are so small your leg touches the sanitary bin when you sit on the loo. Female designed buildings/loos have much larger cubicles.

That doesn't answer the question though. I went to an event a few months ago with DD and had to queue around the bloody building for the toilets during the interval and the second half had started by the time we got back to our seats. But we can't just whack our willy out and pee into a trough so that's part of it.

I have used gents loos in the past and in my experience they are bloody disgusting.

I think new sporting venue type (sure Wembley is like this) toilets are reversible, so say at a one direction concert more toilets will be designated as women's, but at a football match more are men's.

Has anyone used a shepee? I have at Glastonbury and it was ace, would be more than happy to use trough / shepee set up at concert / sporting events.

YANBU, the womens needs more cububles than the mens. As for gender neutral, GTFO. The mens are always disgusting.

This does really annoy me... I was at the theatre once and queued for the whole interval and didn't get to the front of the line before it started. In that time DH had gone outside to call the babysitter, gone to the toilet, got drinks and been back in his seat with plenty of time!

I know there are many reasons women take longer (clothes to hoik up/down possible period etc) but what about those that have catheters or bags to empty (Yes they could use the disabled loo but they may not be disabled ) I'm sure many would feel uncomfortable at being told to "hurry up"!
