To be fucking sick of ginger hair comments?

My 2 DSs are both under school age and ever since their hair came in I get to hear comments on it from strangers. Sometimes its complimentary, other times it's tuff like "ooh he's going to hate his hair when he's older bless him" or "he's going to get picked on with that hair".

It doesn't ruin my day or anything, I just think "get some social skills you twat" while going 'mmm, really'. I am ginger for Christ's sake, so even if it goes over the boys' heads I can fucking understand it. When I was pregnant with DS1 SIL (who I like) said "oh DH, wouldn't it be funny if you two had a ginger kid? Oh no offense, BlurryFace."

I just feel sick of shrugging off ginger this, ginger that comments. I've been doing it for 20+ years, my own mother has said she thought it a shame I was ginger when I was born. I got all the ginger pubes (what other colour would my pubes be, dumb fuck?) comments at school, but everyone hated me anyway, it was just bonus ammo.

Next time I think I'm going to ask if the person who thinks my kids will hate their hair hate their own nose/jaw/body shape.

My daughter is a redhead and her hair is stunning and she gets lots of compliments. My dad is also red along with a few aunts and cousins. I'm so envious that it skipped me.

Some PPs have mentioned Damian Lewis, but has anyone actually posted a pic yet? Thought not. I shall remedy this oversight...

I would!

I think much of the abuse stems from jealousy, tbh

Most bullies are fundamentally insecure, unhappy losers, and this is a case in point.

Ginger hair is beautiful! Honestly some people need to engage their brain before opening their mouths...

Red hair is beautiful. Perhaps they are jealous.

Ginger hair is awesome (no I don't have it) much prettier and stands out more than brown or blonde.

BlurryFace I bet your kids are great. Please challenge these nasty negative comments. ASk or tell people not to spread these nasty comments or continue prejudiced.

Discrimination against ginger or red hair (or any kind of hair) should be covered by the same laws that attempt to stop race discrimination because it is just genes that create skin or hair colour.

QuimReaper

I'd sell my soul to be a natural redhead!

Funnily enough, that's how it happen. Then they keep collecting souls and get a freckle for each one they get.

Ps am also a redhead. Have been lucky in that I have mostly had lovely comments. Was once called gingernut but the person who called me that was nasty to me in other ways. (Didn't last very long luckily).
Am secretly hoping I find a ginger DP for pretty much guaranteed ginger babies GrinGrinGrin

@Onemorecupofcoffee - I don't know which part of Australia you live in, but the bit I live in, red hair is most certainly NOT "revered"!
In fact, even on the tv there are red-head insults allowed.
And Tim Minchin, in case you hadn't worked it out, is red haired - yes, he who wrote the song about being ginger and how awful it was for him

So you must live in a very special part of Australia.

I thought they called red heads "Rangas" in Australia as in orang utan

I've always liked being a redhead, and was frequently complimented on my hair when I was younger.

It faded a bit when I was in my 30s, and I'm now going grey too. I recently started having it coloured and I'm loving being a proper redhead again!

I'm not from this country and I've always found the whole ginger hair hate thing utterly incomprehensible!! I absolutely love ginger/red hair, it's a gorgeous hair colour. I even used to dye my mousey light brown hair ginger (sadly it always ends up some washed out shade of strawberry blonde).

DP is British and always jokes about how he wishes DD does not turn up ginger or she'll be bullied at school. Shock At 6 months it's probably too early to tell but a few people have said she might have auburn undertones so fingers crossed! Halo

Also a redhead ( can't bare the term Ginger!) my hair didn't turn red till I was about 11 though before that I was a golden brown. High school I got Of lightly considering my hair was also naturally curly. Hated my hair till I reached my 20's now I really like it and do get compliments.. it's what attracted my husband to me as he has a "thing" for redheads 😂
I remember watching a programme on adoption and was horrified on there list of what people would choose/ prefer not to adopt was hair colour ginger.. this was on same same line as would they consider a child with Down syndrome or a disability or a child with Ginger hair!! Last time I checked it wasn't a disability to have red hair but they explained on this programme that it did put people off which is absolutely ridiculous , wouldn't of minded if they had put all other hair colours as preference but they didn't!!
I've 3 children and none have red hair so maybe it will skip a generation or my youngest daughter's hair will change like mine did late on.
Loving all the photos!!

It should be treated as rascism because that's what it is. It's prevalence in the UK is a remnant of anti Scottish and Irish feeling as they have the highest occurrence of the red hair gene (MC1R), think about the stereotypical 'jock' or 'leprechaun' parody.

Call it by it's name, rascism. Address it as you would in any other rascist circumstance and we'll see an end to it.

Haven't rtft as I am doing paperwork (well supposed to be ahem) but my maternal grandads side of the family were all ginger my mum was the first not to be and I always wanted to be (apparently the abuse I gave her around age 8 was wild when she wouldn't let me dye it!)

I'm a red head but I dye it, I did get a bit of crap at school. Both my DC are ginger, none have ever had nasty comments at school. Infact there's a lot more red heads these days so kids don't see it as that different.

I'm ginger. A few years ago when I was still at school I forgot my PE kit and had the shit ripped out of me having to do it in my knickers and because of my gingerishness. Everyone who forgot their kit had the piss taken, but because I was ginger it was worse.
