People assume I would like to have larger breasts

Nineinchnails · 13/05/2017 16:44

Why do people (three good friends have mentioned this) who have large breasts think that I must want large breasts.
I have no issue with my 34A boobs and neither does my DP. If I had bigger boobs I would be overweight. These friends have large breasts but are also overweight.
One asked, don't you ever consider chicken fillets? Umm no.
I have no issues with my body although others seem to see the imperfections. It infuriates me that everyone assumes you must have some issues, what are we teaching our DDs if this is the case? AIBU?

Not RTFT but... a lot of you have bra sizes wrong.

I have small boobs, like a handful of my tiny hands, and I'm a 28D.

An A cup means 1 inch between under bust and over bust measurements. B = 2", C = 3", D = 4" and then uk sizes alternate single and double letters after that.

And if I had a mastectomy I would have bigger after but otherwise I'll leave them as they are because I can't deal with needles.

MyBreadIsEggy · 14/05/2017 12:00

I have teeny weeny boobicles too Grin
I love them! I don't have to wear a real bra every day - so I live in cotton Calvin Klein bralettes! Possibly the most comfortable boob holder I've ever come across Grin

histinyhandsarefrozen · 14/05/2017 12:08

Emily, it really never occurred to you that most partners like and compliment their partners, whatever their size?

Roomba · 14/05/2017 12:39

I have never once wanted bigger boobs, tbh. I wore a 34A from being about 11 until very recently, then measured myself properly according to MN and discovered I was a 32C. This sounds loads bigger to me , but I'm still almost as flat as a pancake. Good. I like sleeping on my friend and would have trying to squeeze big boobs into clothes, them being painful during sports and so on.

No one has ever disparaged my tiny boob except for the usual idiot boys in secondary school, but I'd laugh along with that, make jokes about their dick size - didn't bother me at all. As an adult, most partners have been very complimentary in fact (or maybe they just put off anyone who is more attracted to larger boobs).

When I was exclusively breastfeeding, I went up to a D/DD cup which was massively inconvenient. Now that got a lot of comments, which I hated!

JacquesHammer · 14/05/2017 12:54

Yet again. Why are people saying they're happy with smaller boobs because of what they can do?!

Good. I like sleeping on my friend and would have trying to squeeze big boobs into clothes, them being painful during sports and so on

I do all those things (except I presume sleeping in front rather than friend 😂). I don't "squeeze" into any clothes - I simply buy the right size, doesn't everyone?!

This is all so tiresome. Be happy with your body. Don't state how happy you are by negatively conferring "facts" onto others.

ShastaBeast · 14/05/2017 13:04

I had small boobs and was picked on at school for it. I hated it and looked at the option of surgery. However it never stopped me having boyfriends. I may not have been attractive to some men because of it but they were clearly arseholes. After pregnancy and breastfeeding I have D cups which didn't lose much volume after stopping feeding so are still fairly "perky". I wouldn't go back to my A cups but I am glad I never gave in to the pressure of making them bigger with surgery. I hope my DDs would do the same but I wouldn't blame them if they did have implants. Young women and teens have an awful lot of pressure to look good these days.

GrandDesespoir · 14/05/2017 13:26

I'm curious as to what size are considered to be "large". I'm 30E. Is that small, medium... not large, surely? Love my boobs. Blush

kali110 · 14/05/2017 13:31

No StiffyByng the new way. I was measured in two different places to make sure.
Now im a size 10/12 ( depending on the top)i'm a 34 band ( though do wear a 36 sometimes depending on bra to feel comfortable) so i do agree that the op was def wearing the wrong bra.

kali110 · 14/05/2017 13:31

Oh and neither of those places were marks Grin
I never get measured After i read the stories on here!

AlmostAJillSandwich · 14/05/2017 13:33

I really get confused with bra sizing. I'm a size 18 but wearing a 40C, but there are people here size 16 wearing a 34? surely one dress size isn't equivalent to 3 bra back sizes?
I don't understand the "you should only be able to get 2 fingers under the band". Does that mean the back should be really tight? I have some 38 DD's as well as my 40C's and i can get more than 2 fingers under the band, they feel comfy enough when i put them on, but after a while they roll up and dig in at the sides and ride up at the back or roll so the hooks stab me, they are really painful so i've always assumed i need bigger back sizes than i am wearing but i just can't find any. Asda do a 42 back size but they start at a C cup, i'd need a B or possibly even an A and that's for my bigger boob, my smaller one will inevitably have the gaping space left in the cup. Cup wise my larger boob fills a DD cup in a back size 38, but the wires never feel wide enough, the outside of my boob never seems to be comfortably in the wire

olderthanyouthink · 14/05/2017 13:59

Almost ask for a "Bra intervention" over in style and beauty. You may end up with a "bigger" letter than you'd imagine.

You should only be able to get a couple fingers under the band, it should be tight so it won't ride up (it should hurt just feel firm). Cups being too small can make bras ride up too.

I doubt that you need a A,B, or C because that would mean that you only have 1, 2, or 3 inches difference between your rib cage and biggest part of your bust.

I'm a size 6/8 and wear a 28, most clothes companies don't make bras with a small enough band because not enough women know that they are that size. Think of women used to advertise bras, they don't have rib cages 4 inches bigger than me but that's the smallest size that a lot of companies tend to make.

treaclesoda · 14/05/2017 14:03

Almost if they are rolling up on you they are almost certainly too big in the back, not too small. I am a size 16 at the moment and most of my bras are a 32 back size, and one is a 30. The bra needs to be tight around the band in order to provide proper support. If it's not tight it's really just an oddly shaped vest, something to wear as an extra layer under your clothes for 'modesty' (I'm putting that in inverted commas because I don't want it to seem that I think in terms of immodest dress, I just couldn't think of a better word in the circumstances).

Most people seem to buy a bigger band size if their bra is too tight but what most people need is a smaller band (for support) and a much larger cup size (for coverage). People fear smaller back sizes because they think they'll be too tight, but don't forget to factor in the fact that there is space in the cups as well. Think if it as switching the space from being at the back of the bra, where you don't need it, to the front, where you do. Smile

older no we haven't got them wrong.
Many shops in the UK still use the old style sizing where you add 4 or 5 inches to the rib measurement.
I worked out my bra size according to Mumsnet then waltzed into Tesco and discovered it was a load of cobblers, and that I was in fact the same size I was before ie a DD and not a F or G or whatever I was supposed to be.

olderthanyouthink · 14/05/2017 15:42

noeffingidea my 28D fits perfectly and it I really want a bra for a high street shop I have to sister size up to a 30C or a 32B (the size I used to wear) which tend to ride up.

I have tried various brands 28Ds and some don't fit very well at all, because bodies vary widely. For me John Lewis and Freya (definitely a brand that is recommended in bra interventions) are awful and Panache is great.

Shops still use the add 4/5 inches system that was devised before bras were stretchy.

What ever works for you, though there are a whole load of people (r/abrathatfits) who get on great with the "new" way of measuring but it's not an absolute often just a starting point.

treaclesoda · 14/05/2017 15:59

I'm always boggled at the idea of this being a 'new' measuring system. I've been wearing a bra for 30 years and have never been measured using the 'add on 4 or 5 inches' method. My mum is in her 80s and has always used what is often referred to as 'the mumsnet method' too. Smile

Hellothereitsme · 14/05/2017 16:04

I think having big boobs is seen as being more attractive by many.
I have big boobs and every partner I have ever had has commented on how much they like them

I have small boobs and every partner I have ever had has commented on how much they like them!!!!!

Let's stop this big is better small is better, men like bigger, men like smaller. Body shaming from women is a terrible trait.

TheLuminaries · 14/05/2017 16:04

I don't understand the Mumsnet method. I am a petite lady and comfortable in a 32C/D. If I wore a 30 or a 28 (never seen this size anywhere) it would dig in horribly/be impossible to do up. Yet I seldom see adult women smaller than me (small framed,5 foot 1 inch tall, less than 8 stone). Who are these women that can wear 28 inch bras - are they pixies and elfs?

28 inch bras are a really 'normal' standard size, available in loads of shops like Debenhams, House of Fraser etc. They're not generally in Tesco, Primark etc because they only sell very limited sizes.

Obviously if you are comfortable in a 32 back then that's great, you're sorted. But why so dismissive? I'm wearing a size 30 bra and I'm a size 16. It doesn't feel right or uncomfortable, it feels firm. If it was bigger in the back it would be agony because it would be too loose and would ride up.

What the bra market needs is for bras to start at 24 inch backs, because there are loads of slender women who find a 28 far too loose.

treaclesoda · 14/05/2017 16:14

That should say it doesn't feel tight not that it doesn't feel right! Because if it didn't feel right it would completely cancel out what I was saying Grin

WankingMonkey · 14/05/2017 16:39

I'm wearing a size 30 bra and I'm a size 16

This is so weird to me but I assume I don't understand sizings. 40 bra here. F cup. Size 16. Seems to fit fine, if I try a 38 it digs. I don't understand how 2 people who are the same clothes size can have a 10 inch rib difference Confused

olderthanyouthink · 14/05/2017 16:39

TheLuminaries I can assure you that despite my wishes I'm am not a pixie, elf, fairy or any other magical creature but my rib cage measures at about 66.5cm/26".

Unfortunately 26" bras are really hard to find and expensive. Treacle is right bras need to be made in smaller sizes because (Shock) at puberty girls rib cages for spring into "adult" sizes overnight and some people including the bloody VS models are smaller 30/32""

(No bra today and I'm a mammal and have nipples Blush)

People assume I would like to have larger breasts

I'm 5'8", just over 8 stone, size 8, and I wear a 28D / 28DD (depending on the fit)

I measure 28 inches circumference under my bust, therefore I am a 28 back size

olderthanyouthink · 14/05/2017 16:43

Forgot to add I'm 5'4" and 7st 10 (I think).

Ollivander84 · 14/05/2017 16:44

Bands steal size from too small cups and distort the wires. The side boning in bras should be vertical and the cups not pulling back under the armpits
So if you try a smaller band size, try it on backwards (minus straps and cups!) literally do the band so the clasps are under your boobs. That checks the band size without any cup interference
