AIBU about the man on the bus?

HelenaWay · 12/05/2017 23:40

He said I don't think you should sit there. I said said excuse me what are you on about? He said the bags are massive and take up the fly space.

Well that was it. I was so angry, it wasn't a big amount. How dare he say that to me. I shouted at him that he had really offended me and it backed off and sat in the flight seat.

Now I'm thinking about it I don't know AIBU?

Everyone who rides a bus knows that. Well clearly they don't, judging by the responses on here! I have been using buses for most of my 53 years, many times a week, and I can honestly say I have NEVER heard of a fly/flight seat!

dailystuck71 · 14/05/2017 17:54

We need a diagram OP. If you are coming back but may be you've flounced.

SoleBizzz · 14/05/2017 17:56

Flying bus

gemma19846 · 14/05/2017 17:56

Whats the fly space and flight seat?

Bluetrews25 · 14/05/2017 18:04

FGS, it's obvious what flavour the pringles were!
Pringles are all a bit shit, really, hence the flies wanting to eat them. So they will taste of brown.
But I prefer prawn cocktail.
Prawns eat shit, too, don't they?

SoleBizzz · 14/05/2017 18:12

Salt and vinegar, if you don't mind.

jocarter67 · 14/05/2017 18:22

Lol Quench I've just been sad enough to google as well and couldn't find any answer (shock)

38cody · 14/05/2017 18:23

Is English your second language? Its really hard to understand your post. How did being fat come into it?

Gabilan · 14/05/2017 18:39

Wtf? Learn to drive, less angst

Hmm. Plenty of people who can drive still use public transport. Although the thought of the OP driving is a little worrying, don't assume she can't. Plus, from what I've seen of drivers stuck in queues and looking for parking spaces, there's no less angst.

And as someone who's been using buses for 45 years (for half of those with a driving licence) I've never heard of a fly space or a flight seat. I'm assuming the flight seats are the fold down ones, like the ones cabin crew use on planes. No idea on the fly space. Slightly less idea after the OP explained it.

TheLittleShirt · 14/05/2017 18:43

Really MNers, take a magnifying glass with you next time you are in a bus. You will then clearly see the miniature seat on the window sill that is reserved for tiny insects. I thought everybody knew about them. When they need to fly away they move to the flight space for their take off. OMG some of you people are ignorant.

1forAll74 · 14/05/2017 18:47

Are you sure that you caught the correct mode of transport. Maybe you got into a jumbo jet, and mistook it for a bus !

cherish123 · 14/05/2017 18:48

I use to travel on buses for years and have never heard of fly space or flight seat and, to be honest, could not infer what you meant from the context in your original post. I thought at one point you were on an aeroplane when you mentioned flight seat (only joking)!

Gabilan · 14/05/2017 18:49

thing is, on an aeroplane, they would all be flight seats.

flowergrrl77 · 14/05/2017 19:04

Quote: @HelenaWay^these aren't common terms, no one knows where you mean!

Well actually they are common terms. The fly space is clearly the space between the Window and passenger. Everyone who rides a bus knows that.^

uh. well, actually, my dad has been a professional bus and coach driver for longer than I have been alive (40 years) My sister is also a bus driver. Neither they, or I have ever heard these terms!

Maybe its a local thing :P

Well, I hope the Pringles were a good flavour! Try not to yell at ppl on buses. HTH!

ThouShallNotPass · 14/05/2017 19:16

Look, I get it. There's a fly space and a Flight seat.

But did it have a left phalange?!

That's the main concern here.

ahhhhhwoof · 14/05/2017 19:21

Shameless place marking

HoneyDragon has kindly done a very fetching diagram on p. 9 of this thread which is the closest thing to coherent I think we will get.

For the Too Long Didn't Read Brigade the answer is here by Honey Dragon:

Corcory · 14/05/2017 19:27

Love this thread. Great! Apparently the 'fly space' is the bit between you and the window! So OP put her shopping bags between herself and the window so was taking up most of the two seats. Poor man, why he deserved shouting at I have no idea.
The OP has some amazing terminology, maybe she comes from another English speaking country where these terms are used!

DagenhamRoundhouse · 14/05/2017 19:28

What flavour was the rice - Basmati?

LuluJakey1 · 14/05/2017 19:29

I have almost peed myself laughing at page one of this thread. Will save the rest until later.

I have no idea what a FLY seat is, or a flight seat. It reads as if something very significant has been missed out, a whole paragraph.

If the OP had 50 cartons of pringles to eat, that would have taken up quite a lot of space.

I have visions of a large bluebottle in the FLY seat, eating Pringles.

Not sure what the man or the OP are on about really.

CheersMedea · 14/05/2017 19:29

According to OP, the man on the bus said:

the bags are massive and take up the fly space.

so there are at least two people in the world who are fly space familiar.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 14/05/2017 19:32

I'm guessing a flight seat is a small pull-downable one, like they use on planes for the crew to sit during take off and landing.

First rule of flight seat - nobody talks about flight seat. Second rule of flight seat.................

TheSultanofPingu · 14/05/2017 19:36

There are usually two seats at the front of the bus just behind the driver's cab which face the door. They're usually higher up than the other seats. These could be the flight seats as it actually does feel as though you're flying if you use your imagination.

user1464648036 · 14/05/2017 19:36

Word of warning. Do not ever eat an entire tube of Paprika Pringles. Unless maybe you're severely constipated.

TheSultanofPingu · 14/05/2017 19:38

Your answer makes much more sense though Dagenham Smile
