Am I being tight/ greedy?

I ordered sourdough toast with avocado, tofu and plantain at my local cafe for lunch today. I was hungry. The dish was 2 slices of sourdough toast; 1 slice with avocado, 1 slice naked no butter, 2 small strips of tofu and 2 small slices of plantain with about 5 spinach leaves. I questioned the portion size as it seemed a bit, well, mean. My friend said it was about right but I was expecting avo on both slices and more than 2 slices of plantain for £4.95.

AIBU or AIB greedy?

Alexandra87 that's a lot of money for not much food.

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/05/2017 17:34

I think it's served weirdly.
For the description I'd expect both slices to be the same, or for them to call it a toastie and serve it as such.
It seems stingy because of the weird serving I think, though the toppings sound delicious and I'd happily eat them.

I rarely eat out as so many places just don't have a clue about one thing or another, and to me this is another example, you should leave them a Trip Advisor review with your opinion and constructive comments.

I just clicked on the photo and couldn't work out why my phone was only charged 7% when it has been charging for an hour. 🤔

WeAreEternal · 15/05/2017 06:24

Being a vegan and reading the description/seeing the photo that's exactly the kind of thing I would order, I was going to tell you YANBU...... but then I saw that it was under £5.....
it seems about right for the price, it's more of a light snack than a meal for that price.

TheDowagerCuntess · 15/05/2017 19:22

Whatever happened to proper food...

How is avocado, egg and toast not proper food?

Westray · 15/05/2017 19:50

It looks a bloody grim meal.
A few random items on a plate.

liz70 · 16/05/2017 13:58

I'm veggie and I think it looks delish, although I might request some balsamic to sprinkle on the avocado. A plate of steak would look "bloody grim" to me. Horses* for courses and all that.

*So long as they're not on my plate, obviously.

floatingfrog · 16/05/2017 14:02

It doesn't look appetising but the right price for the ingredients. I wouldn't go back they lack any style in the culinary department.

anon1987 · 16/05/2017 14:08

TheDowedger where's the egg?

Westray · 16/05/2017 14:56

liz70 it's nothing to do with the lack of meat that makes it grim, it's that it lacks any care or imagination.

I rarely eat meat, love vegetarian and vegan food, needs a darn sight more than a few drops of balsamic to liven it up.
It looks like some basics before you start to cook, not the finished product.

wildcoffeeandbeans · 16/05/2017 15:22

I think it's okay value for the price, but you should have gotten more plaintain. If I were making it I also would have smushed the avocado better – one avocado can easily cover two slices of bread. Presentation was poor.

Westray · 16/05/2017 16:21

What was it sold as OP?

A vegan meze?
A sandwich?
A plate of mismatched odds and ends from the chef's fridge?

The plantain looks cooked, but the tofu looks as if it has been taken from the packet and just sliced.

I have rarely seen such a mismatched collection of ingredients.

I like all these items individually and if prepared with a little thought, but I would send this back. It makes me feel quite nauseous to look at it.

TheLuminaries · 16/05/2017 19:30

I can'r believe that inoffensive plate of food makes you feel nauseous. The fry up pictured earlier was far more boak inducing.

Westray · 16/05/2017 20:02

I wouldn't eat it.

DameSquashalot · 17/05/2017 11:55

The ingredients are fairly cheap, but £5 usually buys you a small plate of something.

I would usually order something for £5 if I fancied a snack in a pub other than crisps.

acquiescence · 17/05/2017 12:15

It looks like something I would order and enjoy. I am in Yorkshire and would consider it cheap at £4.95.

Westray · 17/05/2017 12:50

What is it?

TheLuminaries · 17/05/2017 12:53

Read the OP : The dish was 2 slices of sourdough toast; 1 slice with avocado, 1 slice naked no butter, 2 small strips of tofu and 2 small slices of plantain with about 5 spinach leaves.

Exactly the sort of food I like. A greasy fry up (as pictured later in the thread) is not to my taste (much to the relief of my arteries, no doubt Smile)

Westray · 17/05/2017 12:55

*2 slices of sourdough toast; 1 slice with avocado, 1 slice naked no butter, 2 small strips of tofu and 2 small slices of plantain with about 5 spinach leaves.
*

That's a long thing to put on a menu. I still don't get it.

If you think that the only two food types food that we can eat is this type of mismatched jumble of leftovers or a greasy fry up then you lack imagination.

TheLuminaries · 17/05/2017 15:28

Westray I think it is a bit of a leap from discussing the sort of food people like/don't like to accusing someone of lacking imagination - it is just a light-hearted discussion Smile I am sure we all aware of and have tried lots of different foods throughout our lives - adults usually have Smile

I didn't realise your question was actually asking 'what was it called on the menu'? I am afraid I can't help you with that.

PutThatPomBearBack · 17/05/2017 17:56

Westray now now, play niceGrin

It looks like something my children make when left to roam in the kitchen Grin

Definitely should have been avocado on both bits of bread and perhaps a better salad and some more plantain.
They're not the sort of things I would have thought to put together to be honest.
The chef needs more enthusiasm.

Westray · 17/05/2017 18:53

"It looks like something my children make when left to roam in the kitchen grin"

Exactly.

I don't get these comments of "looks delish" - really?

DameSquashalot · 17/05/2017 23:56
