Am I being tight/ greedy?

I ordered sourdough toast with avocado, tofu and plantain at my local cafe for lunch today. I was hungry. The dish was 2 slices of sourdough toast; 1 slice with avocado, 1 slice naked no butter, 2 small strips of tofu and 2 small slices of plantain with about 5 spinach leaves. I questioned the portion size as it seemed a bit, well, mean. My friend said it was about right but I was expecting avo on both slices and more than 2 slices of plantain for £4.95.

AIBU or AIB greedy?

Am I being tight/ greedy?

I think you can tell exactly what kind of cafe you were in when you ordered plantain, sourdough, tofu and sourdough.

£3.95 for this in Belfast.

You get no pity from me.

Am I being tight/ greedy?
ShatnersBassoon · 12/05/2017 15:26

Also, £5 seems about right for that. It's not much less than that for a toasted sandwich in Costa.

user1491572121 · 12/05/2017 15:26

Shatners, that's what I thought...you slap it all together. Either way, where I live it would cost a lot more than a fiver!

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 12/05/2017 15:27

It's more a deconstructed sandwich than anything else isn't it?

If you pop the tofu & plantain on the avocado & then the dry slice of bread on that you have a sandwich. £4.95 is a pretty standard price for a "naice" sandwich around here (Midlands).

Anywhere with sourdough bread, tofu & plantain on the menu is likely to count as a "naice" establishment. Not something you'd see in a greasy spoon for example!

EezerGoode · 12/05/2017 15:27

Oh wow I'm vegan, that looks lush ,where are you living to get that that..just costas in my town..which ofcourse means nothing I can eat

TizzyDongue · 12/05/2017 15:29

Portion totally fine for a fiver. Doesn't look well presented though - which I suspect is the bigger problem

Devorak · 12/05/2017 15:30

I live in London but am in Belfast for a couple of days.

It was lush but not for vegans. Well, there was vegan food sprinkled on top.

WingMirrorSpider · 12/05/2017 15:30

It's not necessarily the size, it all just looks a bit spartan. The avocado just looks mashed up a bit and plonked on the bread, it looks like it needs a bit of zhuzzhing up with olive oil, salt and pepper, maybe a bit of chilli and lemon juice. What's that on the spinach leaves? Everything looks a bit dry.

expatinscotland · 12/05/2017 15:31

YABU. Looks about right for a fiver. It's a deconstructed sandwich. I'd be embarrassed if I were out with someone who questioned that portion size.

tammytheterminator · 12/05/2017 15:31

It looks fair for £4.95.

You'd need one avocado for two slices of bread I think. They cost £1.29 in Waitrose to give you an idea.

If you want more food then spend more money!

EezerGoode · 12/05/2017 15:32

What made it not vegan?

kmc1111 · 12/05/2017 15:33

It looks like plenty, if poorly plated up. But for $4.95 it's great!

Neelie31 · 12/05/2017 15:34

I just had something similar in a trendy place in Ilkley,it cost ten quid and wasn't that amazing. And I am hungry now😳.

myoriginal3 · 12/05/2017 15:35

Looks like a starter size to me. Did it fill you?

myoriginal3 · 12/05/2017 15:37

Devorak you glutton. Grin

VerySadInside · 12/05/2017 15:45

YABU!

For under £5, that's very good. I thought it was going to be more like £9.

And you have a pot of butter in the photo!

mirime · 12/05/2017 15:48

£1.80 for two in Tesco. DS eats a lot of avocado.

scottishdiem · 12/05/2017 15:52

Agree with Devorak

What were you expecting OP - or did you mean £14.95?

Hillarious · 12/05/2017 15:52

It's basically a deconstructed avocado, spinach, tofu and plantain sandwich. £4.95 for a sandwich in a café is probably about right. Perhaps you should have ordered chips with it if you were really, really hungry!

CardinalCat · 12/05/2017 15:55

It looks absolutely rank and inadequate, yanbu.

daisypond · 12/05/2017 15:56

It seems a very fair price to me, even on the cheap side.

FilledSoda · 12/05/2017 15:59

Well it was certainly good value.

CricketRuntAndRashers · 12/05/2017 16:02

Well, that is certainly good value.

there appears to be some butter in the metal pot next to it. Put that on the other slice, stuff the food in there and you have a sandwich.

Seems reasonable imo.

CricketRuntAndRashers · 12/05/2017 16:04

But it doesn't look particularly lovely... Then again, I don't like plantain and usually don't eat a lot of bread. But the amount does seem reasonable to me personally.

TempusEedjit · 12/05/2017 16:09

Impossible to tell without knowing how big the plate/bread slices are. If that is a pot of butter on the side then I don't think the plate looks much bigger than my iPad mini, so I would say it's not much food.
