Bishop I wasn't referring to the manifesto as communist, but the very obvious leanings of the party leaders given their own remarks and much of the company they keep

I'm afraid that, in my view, the manifesto is no more than a smokescreen

clairethewitch70 · 11/05/2017 12:54

Make sending criminals to jail a last resort

Ministry of Labour to help unions

Umm. Ok then.

BishopBrennansArse · 11/05/2017 14:31

Doesn't matter how far left leadership goes, the party can deal with anything undemocratic if necessary. Law has to get through the house not just Jeremy Corbyn.

In short anyone who supports Labour policy but won't vote for them because of Corbyn is rejecting the house because of the curtains.

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 11/05/2017 14:38

It's not just him though the whole front bench is witless and talentless

JustAnotherPoster00 · 11/05/2017 14:50

oooo look at them froth, evil evil Corbin, Corben, Cornen

Just from the howl in here I think some of these policies are spot on Grin

ImperialBlether · 11/05/2017 14:53

Fifth richest country in the world? I thought that sounded unlikely. Here it says we're the 27th richest.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 11/05/2017 14:53

To the poster who said its taking us back to the 1970's

What and fox hunting, grammer schools and boy and girls jobs isnt?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/05/2017 14:54

This manifesto isn't about this election it's about what comes after the election. Setting up the party for a new left leader. To lead the extremly diminished party afterwards.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 11/05/2017 14:54

*Urgh grammar

Grin
HelloPossums · 11/05/2017 14:56

Susannah that's not a particularly helpful or kind comment. Other posters on this website have different views to you, and it's best to live and let love even if you don't always agree with someone else's views.

Imperial - it depends on which criteria you use. I just checked and, in terms of individual amassed wealth, we used to be fifth, but we were recently overtaken by India.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/05/2017 15:00

I can't believe that somebody would want me to vote for someone who thinks that putting out the rubbish is a man's job.

I can't believe that somebody would want me to vote for someone who fails to deal with anti semitism and whose shadow Chancellor thinks it's ok to hold speeches under a communist and Ba'ath party flags.

SquidgeyMidgey · 11/05/2017 15:24

Abbott and co don't exactly inspire confidence in me with their awful interviews of late. Corbyn reminds me of the local Liberal activists my parents were involved with in the 80s, he spouts the right stuff but looks like he would crap himself if actually called upon to do anything. His insistence on the rise of unions is worrying, as it would be for anyone with family in industry on the 70s and 80s. Longbridge were once called out because the pies weren't warm enough, seriously I kid you not. I don't want that brainless pack mentality in Westminster.

I'm not a true blue Tory but I don't see they have a credible opposition in this election.

Userboozer59 · 11/05/2017 15:40

Austerity is a word that people seem to have completely bought into. We need to cut our debt blah blah blah? Why? American runs perfectly well with trillions of dollars worth of debt.

SquidgeyMidgey · 11/05/2017 15:50

Surely it's better to have money in the bank than be in debt? It's a sign of the times that some people thinks acceptable to persistently spend what you don't have, acceptable to spend other people's money.

Biker47 · 11/05/2017 15:52

Oh and remind me what's happened to national debt?
Oh, that.

National debt means nothing if you don't specifiy the budget deficit, the budget deficit was £103 billion in 2010, it is now £14 billion. If the deficit was zero you may have a point, but it isn't, it soon will be thanks to the Conservatives/Coalition though.

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 11/05/2017 15:56

look at them froth evil evil corbyn

What a stupid remark you do sound childish. Of course he's not evil just a hopeless leader and I couldn't vote for him.

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 11/05/2017 15:59

Back to the 70s yes because nationalising all those industries worked well! Strikes, 3 day week, winter of discontent. High inflation and casual racism and sexism.

Mmmm yes let's bring it back although Corbyn has the racism nailed although some labour supporters don't see anti Semitism as racist now do they.

deugain · 11/05/2017 16:07

Dam wrong thread.Blush.

wasonthelist · 11/05/2017 16:12

Surely it's better to have money in the bank than be in debt?

This, above all else was the triumph of Thatcherism - make people compare national finances to personal.

Pretty much all comparable nations run debts - it's really just a question of how much. I think it's nuts for what it's worth, but it ain't out of line - so stupid austerity is idealogical, not practical. In fact there is an argument that having no debt as a country would be damaging.

deeedeee · 11/05/2017 16:20

Running the government budget is fundamentally different from running a household budget.

You are economically illiterate if you believe all the rhetoric about "maxing out the nation's credit card" and "spending other people's money" and are being played by a cynical government that is using this approach to enable their ideological position.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/05/2017 16:50

Doesn't matter how far left leadership goes, the party can deal with anything undemocratic if necessary

It can, yes - though I wonder how likely this would be, once the party was stuffed with the ultra left wing?

It's also true that law has to be passed by the House, but isn't that partly what a decent majority is about (not that Labour will get one of course)?

Overall, but especially given their obvious communist leanings, Labour are a risk I'd rather not take thanks all the same Hmm

Wishingitwaswarm · 11/05/2017 16:55

Just to be clear...

  1. there are 3,897,000 ltd companies in the UK that will receive a rate hike of 7% in corporation tax. Corporation tax doesn't just affect big companies by the way. How many will relocate to Ireland (12.5% CT) or elsewhere, I thought we were encouraging entrepreneurship

  2. £80,000 this does include doctors & surgeons

  3. £10 pH wages so not only will small businesses lose in corp tax, they also need to find £2.50 pH per employee

  4. unlimited immigration - ok remember we are a small island and not the size of russia

  5. prison as a last resort - no worries slap on wrist don't do it again get away with it.

  6. only use armed forces as a last resort - let's have a nice little chat over a cuppa tea with jihadi John.

  7. inheritance tax - if your lucky enough to own your own home / have savings, see the threshold fall

  8. protect the nomadic way of life, support gyspsies & roma - does this mean when they turn up on my local park/ school playing field with their rubbish and vicious dogs they can stay.

Back to the 3 day week, unions running the country. The country bankrupt, spend spend spend.

I despair
