To ask how the NHS will be saved by labour

Currently reading a lot of conservative bashing on FB etc about the privatisation of the NHS, I've seen the labour promise to 'save the NHS' but I haven't seen anything about how they will fund this. AIBU to ask if anyone knows?

OP posts:

And how come historical data shows that the Conservatives have borrowed more than Labour over the years? Even after selling off all the national assets.

FruitCider · 09/05/2017 12:55

Not at all, what I do take issue with is the claim to be taxed at 40% on the whole lot.

RoseGoldProsecco · 09/05/2017 12:56

It won't.

Simple answer.

But labour would rack up a fucktonne of debt and squeeze anyone that corbyn considers wealthy and then wonder why the country ends up financially fucked. Again. As it has done every time we've had a labour government!

jellyfrizz · 09/05/2017 12:59

Saving the NHS doesn't have to be all about huge amounts of funding, managing it better would be a start e.g.

Taking away nursing bursaries has caused a huge drop in student nurses. Not enough nurses mean using agency nurses - more expensive and not as efficient.

Give back bursaries = more nurses & money saved on agency fees and inefficiencies over the years.

But this in just not true, the Conservatives have borrowed more than Labour while in power in the last 70 years whilst also selling off all our national assets to fund their spending:

Nobody can save the NHS.

It's too big, too unwieldy, too fragmented, it's insufficiently funded and staffed.

It's expected to do far more than it ever was, with ineffective management and excessive demand.

Nobody is likely to be able to resolve it, but Corbyn is it's least likely saviour with his wishy washy ideas and lack of strong leadership.

FruitCider · 09/05/2017 13:02

22k is plenty for someone straight out of university with no clinical experience. I am married to a doctor btw and he would grudgingly agree.

Well if the starting pay is so great, why aren't you doing it? Why are people leaving healthcare in their droves if the renumeration is sufficient? Why are nurses using sodding food banks if the pay is "plenty"?

ShatnersWig · 09/05/2017 13:03

Fruit As I, and others, have said on other threads, you will find very few people who don't think nurses and mental health workers shouldn't be paid more. It's disingenuous to throw that comment back at people. It's not about how MUCH they should be paid. It's how you FIND the money to pay them. Because what Labour propose in terms of taxing a certain section of the population will barely scratch the surface.

FruitCider · 09/05/2017 13:03

We don't need to borrow more money to fund a pay rise, there are other ways to fund it.

jellyfrizz · 09/05/2017 13:04

Sort out social care so that the elderly do not constantly end up at A & E.

Cocklodger · 09/05/2017 13:04

I don't know why people on 55k are moaning. Pretty sure labour have pledged to not raise taxes for those on less than 80k....

Anon213 · 09/05/2017 13:04

JC has said how he will save the NHS. He is going to make the car parks free, sack lots of consultants, ban children from seeing pictures of sweets and protect 95% of the country from tax rises. The NHS is very safe in JC's hands.

ShiningArmour · 09/05/2017 13:05

Collect the correct amount of tax from the multinational companies who pay a miniscule amount at the mo.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 09/05/2017 13:06

The NHS is screwed either way. I don't see how it's possible to save it Sad

Perhaps if we sorted out the mess of PFIs, trident, tax evasion/avoidance, there would be more money?

FruitCider · 09/05/2017 13:07

Whilst we have the money to pay for multi executives and directors in the NHS, we have the money to pay decent wages for front line clinical staff. That's my view anyway.

Fruit Perhaps. But you're asking a question of me. It's not for me to say how this is going to be funded but by Labour, if they want me and others to vote for them. I do not see them answering the question. Trident is going nowhere, so that's a non-starter. As for PFIs, who started using those for the NHS? Oh yes, Labour....

FruitCider · 09/05/2017 13:12

I think you will find there is a stark difference in your dhs pay and those in bands 2-5.

I pay 7.1% salary for my pension. My pension is very good, I don't mind paying for that. I wouldn't mind paying more for that actually. You seem to have missed the point.

jellyfrizz · 09/05/2017 13:12

At least Labour are willing to try.

FruitCider · 09/05/2017 13:13

I don't think it was labour that initiated PFIs actually. New labour eg Tory lite used them yes, but it wasn't a scheme dreamed up by labour.

jellyfrizz · 09/05/2017 13:13

to save it.

reallyanotherone · 09/05/2017 13:13

People aren't leaving the nhs because of pay.

It's because of understaffing, workload, mismanagement, big chunks being privatised , aka "social enterprise" labours idea which makes it impossible to do your job well and have any sort of work/life balance.

FruitCider · 09/05/2017 13:14

motherhood I'm not that great at science either. Most of nursing is considered to be an art, believe it or not. No biology textbook can teach you how to comfort your patients.
