Seriously, what was ever so wrong with the EU that it has swayed life long Labour voters to vote Tory?

As above really.

Some of the swings to Tory councillors are mind boggling.

What was/ is so bad about the EU that makes this worth it?

Summer the Tories don't bother with Maths classes.

They just go to spìn classes.

Elendon · 08/05/2017 08:37

This blog makes some excellent observations on the negotiations post Brexit. It makes for grim reading regarding the bumbling administrations of the government so far. Personally as a Labour voter I would never vote Tory anyway, but if there are doubters out there who want to change then read this first.

Funny, but how's this for a maths lesson:

Latest Guardian/ICM poll suggests Tories have record 22-point lead over Labour

The latest Guardian/ICM poll is out, and it suggests the Conservatives have a record 22-point lead over Labour. Here are the figures.

Conservatives: 49% (up 2 since Guardian/ICM last week)

Labour: 27% (down 1)

Lib Dems: 9% (up 1)

Ukip: 6% (down 2)

Greens: 3% (down 1)

Conservative lead: 22 points

Martin Boon, ICM’s director, says these poll ratings set a record with his organisation for a Conservative lead over Labour.

This poll is remarkable, and historic. It puts the Conservatives on 49%, and Labour on 27%, implying that 22-point lead. Not only is the lead an outright record for any ICM poll, but the Conservative share is a record in the Guardian/ICM series. It is only beaten by a 49.5% share that we recorded for the Sunday Mirror in May 1983, when ICM was called Marplan. Also noteworthy is the continued decline of Ukip, now measured at 6%, its lowest share from ICM since January 2013.

Of course, if you're Diane Abbott, that works out to a 97-point lead for Labour! Grin

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 15:11

So youre in the lead.

Just means theres a lot of stupid sheeple in the UK.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 15:12

Am in scotland anyway. So quite different figures. Thankfully. Although you might get more than 1 MP this time here

scaryteacher · 08/05/2017 15:16

Elendon Just how much do you think the PM will let slip about her plans for negotiation? If you are playing poker, you bluff; if you are planning strategy, political or military, you keep your intelligence gathering and your plans to yourself. You even make it look like you don't know what you are doing to glean intelligence on the opposition's plans, or to draw them off in a different direction. It's called a feint, iirc.

The next question is, how long before the EU 'unity' crumbles? Juncker said himself the UK would do divide and rule, I bet there are cracks appearing already.

The80sweregreat · 08/05/2017 15:26

I can only see the EU getting stronger - Angela Merkel said as much yesterday when she sent her congratulations to the new French president Macron ( who is pro EU)
They wont 'give' the Uk any kind of decent deal - no other countries have any plans for an 'in / out' referendum ( as far as i am aware)and , just my opinion here, i think they will want to make it all as hard as possible in the next two years. Its going to be rough. As for the labour voters turning Tory, has been happening over decades now - started with people being able to buy their council homes and has carried on ever since, just that now the Tories will probably mop up almost 4 million that voted UKip in 2015 as well * not everyone, but a fair number will vote tory i bet)

Labour are pretty much stuffed and its all very sad.

birdsdestiny · 08/05/2017 15:30

So you' re in the lead.
That's fairly important though isn't it. Or do the left not care about winning. Don't know why I am asking that question, I know the answer.

MrsSummerisle · 08/05/2017 15:35

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin

So youre in the lead.

You do know that's the whole point of elections, right? That's like saying to Usain Bolt 'So you can run fast, is that it?'! Grin

Just means theres a lot of stupid sheeple in the UK.

And with an insulting attitude like that, no wonder the voters are running from Corbyn and Labour faster than even Bolt could.

scaryteacher · 08/05/2017 15:39

Macron has said that the EU needs reform, and that the French people won't accept anything less. He also said: '"So I do consider that my mandate, the day after, will be at the same time to reform in depth the European Union and our European project."

The French would take a "business as usual attitude" as a "betrayal" he warned.

"And I don't want to do so, because the day after, we will have a Frexit or we will have (Ms Le Pen's) Front National(FN) again."

They have been warned!

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 15:45

You lot are hardly going to ever change from being tories so whats the point in being all nice or trying to talk you round? None

wasonthelist · 08/05/2017 15:48

Maggie Thatcher was quite vociferous on this, even though she had previously spoken against referendums.

Which is typically ironic given that that two-faced charlatan signed us up to the Treaty of Rome and then claimed she was "tricked".

Blowingthroughthejasmineinmymi · 08/05/2017 16:28

Monkey what a bizzare comment /assumption to make.

Cool - then be prepared for decades in opposition.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 16:40

Well im not a politician so that doesn't make sense really.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 08/05/2017 17:11

Has any political party ever been in power for over 20 years in a row

I dont think so, but I don't know for definite and I can't be bothered to google

Elendon · 08/05/2017 17:16

Scaryteacher The PM has showed her hand and then been dealt a new one and showed that as well. She's stalling big time, because the right wing press will back her up and go on about nasty Europe.

Sunbeam18 · 08/05/2017 17:18

In Scotland it's all about independence

Elendon · 08/05/2017 17:21

Milliband had a 14 point lead over the Tories at one stage. Not quite as impressive as the Tory lead.

The Tories are going to win. What this means to the EU is probably Merkel will get another term and the Union will continue the negotiations with a far better place on the negotiation table. It's a win win situation for the EU whoever wins in the elections in June.

Elendon · 08/05/2017 17:24

It was all about independence in the local elections in Scotland, but you can bet the tune will now change to it being about the EU. The Tories in Scotland were suck in by the SNP.

Nicemil1 · 08/05/2017 17:25

monkey oh dear you really don't gone up with the 'you must all be Tories.' Bollocks do you?

You prefer to shout from the opposition and never actually have to get into power because you clearly prefer spouting mantras than getting elected and actually changing things.

I think you are Jeremy are well suited I just wish you and your supporters would piss off and let the sensible labour supporters sort out a credible leader and opposition to hold the Tories to account.

you lot are never going to change from being Tories you sound about 13.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 17:52

I never even said everyone was a Tory.

I was addressing the self confessed Tories who were attacking me.

But thanks for wading in with your overbearing twattishness about peoples ages again.

You dont exactly sound mature yourself

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 17:53

Also are you drunk? Much of your post doesnt make sense.

Nicemil1 · 08/05/2017 17:57

No it makes sense it's just you are unable to see commen sense when it's right in front of your face.

Still carry on supporting Corbyn and allow another Tory victory.

Nicemil1 · 08/05/2017 17:58

am I drunk? No unfortunately those lovely student drunk by 6pm days are long gone. You enjoy though
