....about the giant strawberry?!

Total first world problem I know, and I'm defo more irritated by this than I should be, but...
I got some amazing strawbs from the market, seriously huge and really sweet. I put one in DS lunch box and it filled a whole compartment (one of those sistema lunch cube thingys)
DS comes out of school and says one of the lunchtime supervisors said to him 'what a mean mummy, only giving you one strawberry. You'll have to ask her for more tomorrow' I know the woman in question she's one of the mum's in DDs class so I jokingly said to her 'I hear you think I'm a bit of a meanie' in case DS was making it up.
I shit you not, she said to me 'well that's terribly mean only giving him one strawberry, that's not enough to fill a growing boy' She was deadly serious too.
For reference, the strawb in question is below. Pretty large, and accompanied by a sandwich, a chunk of cucumber, a babybel and a yoghurt. She would have been at his table from the beginning of lunch so she'll have seen what was in there to begin with. They do a cursory sweep for contraband at the beginning of lunch every day.
Was I BU to say to her 'you're not the lunchbox police Linda, save your concern for the kids with a sausage roll and a can of Coke'?
Because her face was Shock, you'd think I'd just slapped her....

Costco strawberries are of similar enormity and cause great excitement to my DS. I also tend to serve them by approx volume not number. Wonder what Linda thinks constitutes a fair portion of ginormastrawberrries?

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 04/05/2017 22:15

Sinner lady Grin Grin Grin

Tomorrow cover his whole lunch with a note saying, "Go away Linda, this delicious lunch is not for your eyes, take your cursory sweep elsewhere."

NauticalDisaster · 04/05/2017 22:15

one blueberry thst's brilliant! Let's see what fucking linda has to say about that.

EccentricPickle · 04/05/2017 22:15

It's your own fault for not cutting it up Wink. I always chop them up into halves (sometimes the really big ones can be quartered), it makes the DC feel like they've got loads as strawberries last 2 seconds in our house so it's the only way to spread them out a bit Grin.

You could have got 10 out of that strawberry, OP, and nosey Linda would have been none the wiser!

Haha no def not £7 Waitrose strawberries. We have a really great fruit and veg man in the market in town. If you go after school when he's packing away, he practically gives stuff away. I got 4 punnets of those beasts for £3!

CatsRidingRollercoasters · 04/05/2017 22:18

That's the biggest strawberry I've ever seen!

If Linda really thought you'd been mean then she absolutely should not have said so to your ds, anyway. Very unprofessional of her.

What on earth does she say to kids who actually do have unhealthy lunches or meagre portions of fruit?!

KentMum2008 · 04/05/2017 22:20

Look a thing those beasts! (Teaspoon for size comparison) excuse my scuzzy chopping board

'Look at this enormous strawberry Linda, it's so big that if I hold it in front of me I can no longer see your head, or the movement of your judgmental lips'

elephantoverthehill · 04/05/2017 22:21

I've found the story

AwaywiththePixies27 · 04/05/2017 22:22

Oh yes OP markets are the best. Same here. If you hwopen to be there at the rjrgt time. I remember once our local farm shop closing down so went to the market about 3pm. Carrier bags of bananas for £1. 2 punnets of strawberries for a £1. Same with blueberries and raspberries etc.

Really mess with Linda tomorrow and send in a miniature apple Grin

AwaywiththePixies27 · 04/05/2017 22:24

happen. right.

Sorry. I'm not concentrating tonight I'm being distracted by the giant strawberry. Note my use of the singular word OP...You meanie! Grin

theaveragewife · 04/05/2017 22:25

Waitrose £7 Strawberries and there were only two packs left when I went in yesterday. Glad to hear you weren't a purchaser, maybe Linda thought you were and judged.

KentMum2008 · 04/05/2017 22:28

I'm clearly distracted by my own giant strawberry. Double pic post. And I meant look at those beasts, not look a thing 😂

Read 2 pages and I'm still laughing at, You're not the lunchbox police Linda... Grin

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 04/05/2017 22:35

This is a clear case of Linda pissing on your strawberries. Wink
The power Linda holds as lunch supervisor has clearly gone to her head.

I actually don't think bigger is better (in the case of strawberries). I like to be able to get the whole thing in my mouth.
Pretty cool at primary school to wow your mates with though. Grin

KentMum2008 · 04/05/2017 22:35

Thinking about it, fucking Linda grilled me once over whether houmous had nuts in it as they are a 'nut free school'.
Maybe she's not so bright after all...

OP posts:
KentMum2008 · 04/05/2017 22:37

ILostIt one of the mum's in DS class actually text me to ask where the ginormastrawberries were from earlier. Apparently they'd all been talking about it at lunch Grin

OP posts:
StillHungryy · 04/05/2017 22:37

Hate to be a Linda here but although large strawberries amaze me I'd like more medium size ones, you can fit more in and not the impending feeling of that one strawberry going with every bite Blush

elephantoverthehill · 04/05/2017 22:38

Mango I think Linda is the crafty narrator Grin who wants to and gets to eat half of that strawberry. overthinking this one

cdtaylornats · 04/05/2017 22:39

Did she actually see it or did she ask your DC and he said only 1 strawberry.
