I'm 27 and never tried tea. My OH thinks this is incredibly weird?

The smell just makes me heave.

What 'normal' things have you never tried?

Hard on the teachers certainly! Although when you think about it no more insane than the chocolate machines we used to have in schools. I was always allowed chocolate so didn't think access to a kitkat was anything miraculous, but others with very strict parents went completely insane. Gawd, I shudder to think of it now.

Blather

oh yes, it's pretty crazy. It was sooo difficult consuming less caffeine when I was pregnant with DD. It's easier this time around (probably because it isn't the first time going without...)

But I've been an absolute coffee addict since I was 13. I had coffee at home before (my mother is Italian), but not a continuous stream of coffee (everytime we changed classroom, basically...)

Eolian · 03/05/2017 22:08

YABU not to try it. But obviously there is nothing unreasonable about not liking something once you've tried it.

I love love love tea. Strong 'builders'' tea right through to Japanese Sencha, jasmine tea, white tea and everything in between. Except so-called fruit teas, unless they actually have tea in them (which most don't). I'd love to go to a Japanese tea ceremony.

It's hard to explain what's so nice about tea, particularly as different kinds do vary so much. But they can be strong, malty, comforting, refreshing, delicate, floral, woody. Lots of flavours.

I know quite a few people who don't ever drink tea, one who never has any hot drinks at all.
I used to loathe tea until about my mid-twenties. Now I'm a huge tea drinker, love the stuff. Maybe give it a go?!

CakeUpWall · 03/05/2017 22:12

I've never been in an Asda.
However, I drink a shit load of tea.

tiputipi · 03/05/2017 22:14

Okite - I've tried!! Everyone around me drinks if but I just can't bring myself to drink it.

I reckon I could handle it if it had lots of sugar in it but I wanna keep my teeth for now 😬

You're missing nothing, tea is foul!! Yuck yuck yuck.

I've never tried prawns or mussels - just can't get past the slimy look of them.

To the person who posted that half and half is half tea/half coffee it's actually coffee made with half warm milk and half warm water (at least where I'm from it is)

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 03/05/2017 22:27

Same here, no tea, coffee or hot drinks!

Puppymouse · 03/05/2017 22:27

Another hot drink-ophobe here. Can't even stand hot chocolate. It burns my mouth, doesn't really taste of anything because it's so fucking hot and I don't find the idea of hot very refreshing (even though I love hot showers). Weirdo I know.

ilovepixie · 03/05/2017 22:39

I've never seen any of the Star Wars film. Never seen die hard until we watched it Christmas Day as everyone said I should see it. It was really good actually.

Whathaveilost · 03/05/2017 22:41

DS1 and 2 (20 and 17 ) have never had tea or coffee.

Zoflorabore · 03/05/2017 22:42

I am 39, have never drank coffee but have about 20 cups of Yorkshire tea a dayGrin

I have never eaten peas, any type of fish, cottage cheese, coleslaw, oh jeez I could go on all night...

SpikeGilesSandwich · 03/05/2017 23:38

You're not missing anything, tea is horrible. The rest of my family drink it including the cat but I don't see the point.
Used to work for a woman who continually made me cups of tea and expected me to be grateful, as an awkward teenager, I didn't like to keep repeating that I didn't like it. Tried to force myself to drink it out of politeness but ended up pouring it in the plant pots or down the sink when she wasn't looking.
Coffee is awesome though, it's the one thing I really miss while breastfeeding, I have one not strong enough cup on a morning and that's it.

RhiWrites · 04/05/2017 00:27

I've been a vegetarian since I was 10 so there are lots of things I haven't had: lobster, tuna, scallops, oysters, mussels.

I have had tongue and kidney though. Grim.

MommaGee · 04/05/2017 00:46

Shellfish. So wrong

Had scallops once, literally had to (surreptitiously) spit it out

TheFlyingFauxPas · 04/05/2017 00:50

Tea is vile. I've had like 4 cups in my life. Either to give it a go or in desperation. Only hot drink. It's vile!

MakeItStopNeville · 04/05/2017 01:05

Seminormal I do have tea and coffee in but I always tell guests to make it themselves. I've been told on far too many occasions I make the worst cup of tea in the world! Probably why I've never drunk it.

I'm also phobic about tomato ketchup (I'm aware this makes me sound slightly bonkers), much to my children's amusement. They offer me fries and, if I accept one, they turn it round and it has ketchup on the end and I scream. They have always thought this was the best game ever.

MakeItStopNeville · 04/05/2017 01:07

Although, according to Wiki, it has a name! Mortuusequusphobia!!

Littlelegs19 · 04/05/2017 01:08

Never eaten duck. It eat all other meat but just can't bring myself to eat it

SuperBeagle · 04/05/2017 01:13

I have been drinking tea since I was a toddler.

I went off it for about 3 years though, since I was pregnant with DC3. I hadn't had a single cup between the time I was about 12 weeks with her and last Sunday when I was at my grandmother's.

Firmly back on the tea train now. I only drink one cup per day though.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 04/05/2017 01:30

Tea and coffee are horrible. I once drank a very milky cup of tea when it was presented to me and too awkward to refuse. I've never got through a whole cup of coffee. There's too many unpleasantly pungent coffees around these days. I used to like the smell and wonder why it tasted so bitter, but now I find the smell overwhelming.

I have to replace the tea and coffee most years so they're in date. Good luck with the milk though as I rarely have cow juice in the house, and use an oat substitute most of the time.

People wonder what I drink, but it's probably more varied than the caffeine addicts. Mainly water and fruit tea, sometimes juice/ squash. Oatly hot chocolate that won't offend the sensibilities of my digestive system. Dairy issues suck.
