I'm 27 and never tried tea. My OH thinks this is incredibly weird?

The smell just makes me heave.

What 'normal' things have you never tried?

I run on tea. I don't know what I'd do without it in my life. It makes everything better on a bad day!

I've never seen dirty dancing, or any of the star wars films, which a lot of people think is weird.

gillybeanz · 03/05/2017 21:13

I'm sorry OP, I couldn't resist.
I hope you realise I was joking, but I did used to see a couple of toddlers in buggies with the dreaded tea in bottles.
Saying that though, the germs that must have come from the bottle being rolled around the floor and the stale milk, was probably far worse than a drop of tea.

MaidenMotherCrone · 03/05/2017 21:14

Tea is heaven. Not your fancy fruit teas but proper brown tea, Assam if you have it. It's the all purpose pick me up, calm me down, refresh, sooth, wake up, relax. I love it.

I've never had the red stuff people put on chips. I can't even say the name it makes me nauseous, my DCs have to say it in Welsh. I've also never had oysters, they look like they will be like cold phlegm. Vom.

QuietNameChange · 03/05/2017 21:14

I really like tea.

A nice cup with a splash of milk. Perfect.

I don't think DH could exist without tea and marmite (they apparently got that served in school... urgh). I also like coffee and tisanes :)

tiputipi · 03/05/2017 21:14

Thatorchid - tea sounds AWFUL from your experience. I hope you recovered well from this trauma. Your post made me giggle!

I had never seen die hard until my DP made me watch it one day. The same as con air. I've never seen top gun.

bluebellrailway · 03/05/2017 21:14

I've never tried coffee, or beer. The smell of both is too vile to even consider it.

LilaoftheGreenwood · 03/05/2017 21:15

How do you recover from a big day out without a cup of tea? What do you do in the morning? At 5pm on Christmas Day after lunch has gone down?

Ahhh, tea.

Never, ever tried carrot cake. What is the point, it should be cake!

Bibs2014 · 03/05/2017 21:16

Omg! How is this even possible?!

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 03/05/2017 21:16

I don't drink alcohol at all so there's probably loads I haven't tried. Those I did try when I was younger I couldn't stand the taste of. I live on water and the occasional cuppa Smile

LilaoftheGreenwood · 03/05/2017 21:16

Ooh, what's bad about tea in bottles for children? I had it in my sippy cup from very young, apparently. Is it the caffeine?

ilovegin112 · 03/05/2017 21:17

Cant stand tea, love the smell of coffee but not the taste
I have never tried Oysters but love mussels

Wreckingball25 · 03/05/2017 21:18

With you, OP, 38 and never tried tea. I even volunteer with a charity that hosts monthly tea parties and I drink water Grin
Addicted to marmite though... my iron levels were amazing in pregnancy and I reckon it's that!

Capricorn76 · 03/05/2017 21:19

In many cultures it's totally normal for very young children to drink tea.

QuietNameChange · 03/05/2017 21:20

I didn't know giging children tea is this awful. Why? Confused

halcyondays · 03/05/2017 21:21

Good lord, I can't remember a time when I hadn't tried tea (first drank very milky from a Tommee Tippee cup)

Judydreamsofhorses · 03/05/2017 21:21

I drink tea at home, and coffee at work, but I absolutely can't get behind the idea of iced tea/coffee. Why on earth would you want a cold version of a hot drink?

Capricorn76 · 03/05/2017 21:21

I've never tried oysters or bovril. Never will.

OhMrBadger · 03/05/2017 21:24

I went through a time at work where I seemed to find myself surrounded by temps who didn't drink any hot drinks! I couldn't believe it. I would sit there in my own little caffeinated cloud peering suspiciously at the strange, soft-drink guzzling crazy folks.

Still, it meant the tea run was a breeze!

ThePurpleOneWithTheNut · 03/05/2017 21:25

I dont drink tea or any hot drinks. I wish I did though.

It feels unsociable and seems to bother people. I so want to join in on those little breaks in the day where people bond over their cuppas but...I just can't Confused

OhMrBadger · 03/05/2017 21:26

I, on the other hand, am perfectly right to have tried mussels. Never have, never will. Like eating slugs I imagine.

tiputipi · 03/05/2017 21:26

Tea for children can cause iron deficiency and stops them from being able to absorb calcium and also the caffeine.

I personally wouldn't give my child tea.. but she's only 4 months old. My mum who is a massive tea drinker will probably give her a sip when I'm not there I'm sure!!

OP posts:
Hassled · 03/05/2017 21:27

I never drank tea because my mother drank tea. Then after I'd had DC1 the midwife said "Would you like a cup of tea?" and for some weird reason I thought actually, yes I would. And that was my tea conversion - it was the nicest drink I'd ever had.

fiverabbits · 03/05/2017 21:27

The only cup of tea I can remember having was on the 18th of January 1970. It was the first date with my now husband of 45 years. I was ill and my Mum insisted I had a cup of tea but it didn't stay down. I have never drunk coffee, tasted tomato ketchup, cheese or anything with cheese in, Bovril, or Marmite.

There are loads of people who never drink tea or coffee.

grumpysquash3 · 03/05/2017 21:27

I love tea, especially Assam. OP, Darjeeling (no milk) might be a good place to start your tea drinking life, but make sure it's Twinings or another 'posh' brand, and don't make it too strong. Or alternatively just don't bother as you probably won't like it anyway :)

I have never eaten popcorn chicken. I'm not even sure what it is. Chicken flavoured popcorn, or popped chicken???
