I'm 27 and never tried tea. My OH thinks this is incredibly weird?

The smell just makes me heave.

What 'normal' things have you never tried?

This is what the NHS says about giving tea to children (last item): www.nhs.uk/Conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/drinks-and-cups-children.aspx

Hardly deserves the epithet "dreaded" I think! Unless you are giving it as their only drink or adding sugar which is obviously daft.

Hassled · 03/05/2017 21:28

I've never tried oysters. I like mussels, clams etc - but someone somewhere said oysters have the consistency of snot, and that was it. They're dead to me. Even if they don't have the consistency of snot, I'll never be able to eat them without thinking about snot.

LightYears · 03/05/2017 21:29

I'm the same OP, makes me heave too. I put it down to my mum swilling that much of it when pregnant with me is the cause. I've had enough of it in my system to last a lifetime. Grin

grumpysquash3 · 03/05/2017 21:30

Oh, I've never eaten tongue either. The sort that appears on deli counters in slices, where the tongues sort of look like they're licking each other.

tiputipi · 03/05/2017 21:30

Everything in copious amounts is daft really :)

Grumpy - definitely with you on the tongue there 😐

I'm 35 and don't drink tea or coffee. I do however love cottage cheese! Oh, and I have very white teeth!!!

gregoriesgirl · 03/05/2017 21:32

Beetroot and piccalilly (how do you spell it?)

Food should not be bright yellow or purple.

I don't drink any hot drinks. I did attempt green tea once, tasted exactly what I imagined warm piss to taste like.

Also haven't tried beetroot because the texture looks weird. Won't try salmon or tuna because of the smell. Don't eat anything too 'wet' on toast ie jam or marmalade. Never eaten sweetcorn because they look like yellow peas. Avocado scares me, it just doesn't look right somehow. Oh and cheesecake, the thought of it makes me heave but I actually think I'd like it.

Scottishgirl85 · 03/05/2017 21:34

I'm 31 and have never tried tea or coffee, it looks and smells revolting. It does make visiting people rather awkward, I have juice with the kids...

PumpkinPie2016 · 03/05/2017 21:34

I love tea - can't beat a good cup of Yorkshire teaSmileBrew

My mum hates it though - only drinks strong, black coffee with no sugar Hmm

I've never tried tongue despite DH insisting it is nice - the thought of it just makes me heave!

I have also gone off bananas since I was pregnant 4 years ago! The texture makes me.feel sick to this day.

SemiNormal · 03/05/2017 21:35

piccalilly - urgh yes, I've not had this either, looks like the contents of a nappy!

QuietNameChange · 03/05/2017 21:35

Tea for children can cause iron deficiency and stops them from being able to absorb calcium and also the caffeine.

Thanks :)

I've never thought about it, tbh. I'd feel weird putting it in a bottle... But I guess I wouldn't have thought twice about giving it to DD from the age of... Idk, maybe 4? Blush

Blatherskite · 03/05/2017 21:36

I love this thread! It makes me feel normal.

Despite growing up in Yorkshire I hate tea. I hate the dead leaves smell which makes me heave, I hate the heat and I even hate the mugs. Something about the thickness of the china makes me shudder so I can't even have cold drinks in them.

The smell of Coffee also makes me properly nauseous and I can't stand the bitterness of coffee flavoured things. I have to avoid bookshops/stations/shops where they have an instore coffee shop and I will feel really sick at the smell.

What I hate most though is being forced to have these things in my house because other people expect me to. The tea makes the cupboard it lives in stink like rotten wood and if anyone drinks coffee I often have to leave the room. No one is forced to have marmite in for guests if they hate it but if you don't have tea in you're weird apparently.

SemiNormal · 03/05/2017 21:40

What I hate most though is being forced to have these things in my house because other people expect me to - I refuse to have tea or coffee in for guests. I know that may come across as rude but I honestly don't care. I offer a can of coke, orange juice, milk or water - take it or leave it. Grin

We had about 5 coffee machines in college prep school. You would have felt nauseous every day. Or ended up not minding it... Most of us have become coffee addicts...

HotelEuphoria · 03/05/2017 21:41

Ok, so I must be weird because there is nothing, absolutely nothing, that I have been presented with that I haven't tried. Granted some things I don't like such as oysters, kidney and honey, but I will eat just about everything else from liver to blue cheese to marmite to sprouts.

Love, just love, a cup of Yorkshire Gold, made with Yorkshire water, in a china mug, milk no sugar. Thank you.

tiputipi · 03/05/2017 21:46

I really want to go for afternoon tea because I love cake but I'd have to have squash with it.. I'm sure this isn't acceptable.

Also, I love that nobody has mentioned cake as one of the things they've never tried 😁

Apart from the post about cheesecake - try it OP!! It will change your life :)

Blatherskite · 03/05/2017 21:49

SemiNormal I used to do that but the in laws made a huge deal about it so now I have to waste half a cupboard to mugs, tea bags and jars of coffee that I will never, ever use. They're now trying to work on getting me to make the drinks for them but I am drawing a line. No way.

Any workmen we have in seem to be almost offended that I refuse to make them tea or coffee.

QuietNameChange I'd have probably ended up leaving.

QuietNameChange · 03/05/2017 21:52

Blather

That was actually during mandatory schooling (except for the last years).

I wonder what they thought, tbh. An unlimited amount of espressos (and cappuccinos etc) for 13 yos.

motleymop · 03/05/2017 21:54

I wish I knew what it is about tea that is meant to be enjoyable. A tea drinker once said to me they regard it as savoury - is that true? I've drunk plenty of cups of tea but I don't really like or understand it - only with loads of sugar can I really countenance it. Can anyone explain what it is that is so nice?

LilaoftheGreenwood · 03/05/2017 21:55

Clippers Organic is my preferred, Yorkshire Gold is an acceptable second best but it doesn't stand up as well to London water. I can't get on with their Hard Water version for some reason.

Ooh might have a quick cuppa before bed.

Blatherskite · 03/05/2017 21:57

Espressos for 13 year olds!! Shock That's insane!

tiputipi · 03/05/2017 22:00

In some cultures, tea and/or coffee is ingrained in them!

My Italian cousins are obsessed with coffee... however, were very unhappy with the instant stuff I gave them when they visited. Oops.. I did get some posh biscotti in from Tesco though! 😬
