I'm overweight and wear leggings

I can't be dead certain but I thought I heard two women sniggering about me in a shop when I was bending down.

They went silent when I got up and looked in their direction. They proceded laughing and whispering again when I turned to go down the next aisle.

It may well have had nothing to do with me but you know when you just get that feeling that you're being watched? I had that before I even clocked them.

I think it was because I'm fat and wearing leggings. I worry now that if i need to bend or stretch and in certain light people may catch a glimpse of my breakfast underwear. And every massive little ripple of cellulite is probably on show.

But they are just so damn comfy.

Am I being publicly undecent in my choice of attire or am I being over self conscious and paranoid?

Leggings are designed to be worn under a dress, tunic or skirt. No one wants to see your breakfast, you camel toe or your arse crack thanks. And that goes for everyone from a size 6 to 26.

hey lemon,,just go into the shop again, perhaps wearing a kind of burlesque outfit, basque, stockings and suspenders, just shut those stupid women up!

I just rushed to my local village shop today..I was wearing my somewhat oldie black leggings, all splattered with white gloss paint, just finished a painting job,, and three oldie church ladies looked at me as though I was a hill billy hobo, but I am usually a proper nice village lady ha ha

Strummerville · 04/05/2017 07:03

Don't see why anyone cares what total strangers are wearing. "But I don't want to see x/y/z!" Er...get the fuck over it? It doesn't affect you. Look somewhere else and get on with your day.

I notice nice clothes because I love clothes (often have my head turned by a beautiful coat passing me in the street!) but couldn't care less if anyone wants to wear leggings or anything else Confused

SemiNormal · 04/05/2017 07:08

OP I agree with others saying about longer tops, it just looks more flattering IMO. Like a PP I wear mine with very long shirts but tunics, dresses etc all look nice (imo) with leggings. It doesn't matter what you were wearing though, no one should be taking the piss like that.

aurynne - That picture you shared is of a real person you know? It's not just some random picture off the internet that can't/won't hurt anyone. It doesn't matter if it has been shared a million times. That picture was clearly taken to make fun of and embarrass that woman, no need to post it to emphasize a point.

fruitlovingmonkey · 04/05/2017 07:08

YABU- unless you are 13 and skinny, leggings are gross.
There's something about wearing leggings as trousers. It's like telling the world that you've given up on life.
Disclaimer: totally ok when heavily pregnant and nothing else will fit.

Crunchymum · 04/05/2017 07:12

I am fat, I wear leggings but I also wear long vests to cover my are as no one wants to see that!!!

I wear a normal (loose) top over the leggings.

Therealslimshady1 · 04/05/2017 07:19

Leggings are fine with a long bum covering top. I wear them all the time, with a short dress/long swing tunic and, say, ankle boots they may not be "fashion" but can still look good.

TheoriginalLEM · 04/05/2017 07:29

why are people so judgemental about an item of clothing??

Wear what you like OP and don't for one minute give a second thought to what any other fucker thinks.

I am overweight and whilsti don't have any leggings atm i do have a pair of jeggings and find them far more flattering than loose trousers that make my legs look like tree trunks.

This thread has made me want to go out and buy leggings

MaisyPops · 04/05/2017 07:38

Nobody is judging an item of clothing.

They are saying that items of clothing should be worn so you don't see camel toe and bum hanging out.

I've just binned about 4 pairs of leggings that have been worn and washed too much because I put them on in the house and DH was like "nice pants".

TheoriginalLEM · 04/05/2017 07:40

but why would you judge someone elses camel toe? it will probably be fashion one day

KoalaDownUnder · 04/05/2017 07:44

Camel toe is never going to be in fashion.

Nobody wants to see a stranger's fanjo in that much detail. It's the equivalent of blokes in tracksuit pants with no jocks underneath.

TheoriginalLEM · 04/05/2017 07:45

inow you put it that way koala Grin

RoganJosh · 04/05/2017 07:47

Those lands end ones would be trousers to me.

Rachel0Greep · 04/05/2017 10:13

OP, they should not have been laughing. That is their bad manners. Ignore.
I'm not a fan of leggings with all on display, whatever anyone's size, tbh.

user1489179512 · 04/05/2017 10:22

Leggings are dreadful on anyone. I have never worn them and never would. Just no.

I wear leggings , and jogging bottoms .

To whomever said its not alright EVER .. That is YOUR opinion !

FeralBeryl · 04/05/2017 10:25

Glad you're feeling a bit better OP Flowers
Those people were twats-no one has the right to shame anyone else ever.

I agree with the rule that only wear leggings with anything you'd wear with thick tights-regardless of size/shape.

Try and put this behind you now.

SideOrderofSprouts · 04/05/2017 10:28

I'm over weight and wear leggings. But I wear them the same way I would wear tights. With a long top or dress

TheFaerieQueene · 04/05/2017 10:34

I hate to tell you but camel toe pants are a thing.

MyOtherNameIsTaken · 04/05/2017 10:46

I sometimes wear thick leggings with a long top (to mid thigh) it does feel reminiscent of the 80s and my RELAX tee shirt though! Grin

Teabagtits · 04/05/2017 19:29

*Camel toe is never going to be in fashion.

I've never had camel toe. Maybe my bouffant bush masks it

SecretNutellaFix · 05/05/2017 00:09

I am very overweight OP- I only ever wear leggings with a long tunic top and by long I mean covers my arse when bending.

I've had people snigger at me but it's their very poor manners on show.
