I'm overweight and wear leggings

I can't be dead certain but I thought I heard two women sniggering about me in a shop when I was bending down.

They went silent when I got up and looked in their direction. They proceded laughing and whispering again when I turned to go down the next aisle.

It may well have had nothing to do with me but you know when you just get that feeling that you're being watched? I had that before I even clocked them.

I think it was because I'm fat and wearing leggings. I worry now that if i need to bend or stretch and in certain light people may catch a glimpse of my breakfast underwear. And every massive little ripple of cellulite is probably on show.

But they are just so damn comfy.

Am I being publicly undecent in my choice of attire or am I being over self conscious and paranoid?

user

How are they different from black tights or stretchy skinny jeans?

Aeroflot - the problem with those is that they are quite low on the waist so I would need to hoik them up constantly, and I see lots of people wearing low cut jeans with half their knickers showing

Aeroflotgirl · 07/05/2017 15:52

User I think being leggings they are more likely to stay up, I would wear a longish top with them or jumper. I also have control pants so if I bend down, you only see black background, not my big bottom.

Sorry, @user1489179512 - you don't get to state your opinion, and then say "end", as if you have stated an incontrovertible fact that finishes the discussion.

OP, the problem isn't that you like wearing leggings, it's that you are treating them more like 'normal' trousers than thick tights. Ask yourself, if this was a pair of tights rather than a pair of leggings, would I feel comfortable going out dressed like this? If the answer is no, you would feel too exposed, the top that you are wearing with your leggings properly isn't a good match for it.

Keep your leggings, keep your tops, but wear them with different things! Without even seeing what you look like, I am willing to bet your leggings would flatter you so much more if you wore them with long tunic style stops or short dresses. Smile

This ^^
I wear shorter things with leggings than I would with tights because they're much thicker but bum and crotch must be covered.

Not rocket science. Underwear area shouldn't be visible.

Out of interest, how do people feel about leggings-esque bottoms? I have multiple pairs of uniqlo leggings trousers in various colours - they're stretchy trousers with an elasticated waist band, but with pockets and detail at the front to look like trousers (and the material is thicker than leggings, more like a trouser)

I personally wouldn't wear them with a shirt as it's styled on the model, I'd only wear with a longer length shirt that covered at least the top half of my bum.

But wondering if leggings trousers like these are considered as offensive as leggings? (I'm 5'8" and a 6-8 if that makes any difference)

Visible but covered bum is ok. Visible underwear either exposed or through clothing is not. Regardless of size, we don't want to see it.

Visible bum cleavage was a joke even on the Athena poster.

I've just bought a pair like that. I'm also not convinced with a short top like that. Longer tops liek you would be my way.

There was a pair in topshop that's meant to be high waisted and I just thought noooo.

TheDowagerCuntess · 07/05/2017 19:36

Leggings don't skim, they cling. That is the entire point of them.

In every photo posted on here of leggings, they're clinging.

That's fine, if you're comfortable with that. But that's why I don't go near them.
