to think some people have more money than sense

An old school friend posted on Facebook earlier about taking her four kids plus two nephews out for the day. There was no special occasion yet they all went out for breakfast, stopped for drinks at Starbucks, ate lunch out, bought new toys and then a teddy from build a bear each to take home. Someone commented on how their DC loves build a bear too and she replied how she'd spent £250 in there on the six bears Shock That's two weeks food shopping money for me.

AIBU to hate these kind of braggy posts and such wasting of money when so many people could use the money so much better?

Ignore it!! FB and social media does this to people and it's why MH problems are in part, rising! Just look at a certain ex prime minister who has spent £25k on a shepherd's hut - really!!! It is laughable but just don't get sucked in....!

I would never brag about how much I'd spent on a day out, but every school holiday or half term DS gets a treat day. We go out somewhere of his choice, have a meal out - again his choice and he usually gets a new toy too. Sometimes it won't cost much - like a small museum he wants to go to or a film he wants to see followed by Burger King, other times is a big day like Legoland, Sealife or the London Eye followed by Nandos or F&B.

It's not a special occasion, but it special to us. And I will post pics of the fun we've had. It makes up for all the other days of drudgery where I can't post about things like other people I know do - winning awards for their businesses, buying homes, renovating homes, buying flashy cars or going on expensive holidays. If I've saved up and spent 2 weeks shopping budget on a day out with DS then I'm going to enjoy it and not give a damn if I look like I'm bragging!

You don't really know what else is going on in her life and if she's posted about having a good time to boost herself then so be it. I have friends that always seem to be checking in places and doing cool things, but as they are good friends and I talk to them they often confess it's because their marriage is shit and they don't want to stay home with DH etc so they're spending money they don't really have to get out and feel better about themselves.

I don't think it's fair to call the OP's post nasty XiCi... I don't think there was anything nasty about it.

And it's so true Rhoda - noone really knows what's happening in people's lives. I know a lot of people who have amazing lives but are so deep in debt that I'm actually scared for them.

I use fb as my happy place, where I record all my nicest times and thoughts.

It's horrible to imagine someone getting annoyed about me feeling happy.

Today I've posted about the duckling we're looking after and the apple blossom on my tree.

A couple of weeks ago we were on holiday, so I posted pictures of that.

Both times made me equally content.

In down times, I like to look through it, as I would a diary.

Well I disagree accidental. I found it nasty and sneery towards a woman that had done nothing except bought her family lunch and a cuddly toy. You could say there are more worthy ways to spend the money about most things that we buy, she just happened to want to buy her kids a bear. I just see no reason for the post at all

Blueflowers2011 · 01/05/2017 21:26

Well I wouldnt spend £250 on Build a Bear but I have days like these. That is not bragging on my part, it is merely spending our money on what we feel we want to spend it on.

People on here saying it must have been awful queuing in there etc or using the word 'vulgar' when someone talks about money does drive me insane. That just tells me a person is very jealous when they describe it like that. It is not vulgar.

People earn different amounts of money. Fact.

And actually reading back, she took 6 of them so it's not that bad a price. I would do the same if it meant we all had a nice day like that.

I spend around £70+ on my lunches every week - is that unreasonable too? It's my money. I take great pleasure in buying whatever I want in the week. Its not bragging, I work, earn and can allocate it wherever i want to tbh.

SecretNetter · 01/05/2017 22:09

Yanbu to think it crass to post how much you've spent on xyz on fb...it is.

Yabvu to judge someone for spending money though or think others could have 'spent it better' or whatever. Who gives you the right to decide what is 'worthy' of spending money on or not?

Mysteriouscurle · 01/05/2017 22:49

Also in the crass to brag about how much you've spent camp.on FB or by any other means. Cringeworthy

scaryteacher · 02/05/2017 15:58

I'm about to spend €110 euros on lidocaine patches and I've just dropped €100 on a top up shop and wine for two of us, so judge away OP.

I think the such wasting of money when so many people could use the money so much better irritates me. It isn't your money, they've earned it, and can spend it how they want. It isn't a waste to them, and other people might spend it on something equally wasteful like cigarettes or quinoa.

The last time I saw my ds I spent about £400 on him in M&S as he needed a suit for graduation and some work clothes. I took him out for dinner 'because' I could and he needed feeding. So what?
