To ask how many sausages for an adult portion

Went to MILs for dinner today. She's done a sausage and bean casserole :P We got one sausage each. When SIL asked if we were on rations MIL pointed out that beans were protein too.... I do 2-3 sausages for an adult depending on size and meat content. How many do you do?

If it's a casserole with beans then would use 1 - 2 per person, depending on who was eating. I really bulk out casseroles with veg though.

OlennasWimple · 29/04/2017 23:12

Two in a beany casserole, three with mash / in the hole / on their own

iklboo · 29/04/2017 23:13

I only ever eat one if it's with something else. 1.5 - 2 on a butty Blush

DS (11) will eat 2 though, DH 3 or 4.

Squeezed · 29/04/2017 23:14

My 11 month old would want more than one! Definitely at least two for an adult.

Binkybix · 29/04/2017 23:14

In a casserole no idea. With mash I'd have 4. Is 2 really the norm? I'm just getting into them by that point! 😄

CheeseQueen · 29/04/2017 23:15

I mentally said "2 to 3" without making it to the end of your post.
2 sausages per adult, adequate. 3 at a push but bordering on oinky. Grin
One? No. Stingy! One is one for a small child. Not a grown adult.

ohtheholidays · 29/04/2017 23:18

Bloody hell your MIL would have a serious shock if she came to our house.

DH and our 2 oldest DS21 and 18 usually have about 6 fat sausages each(and that's decent very high pork content)DS15,DD13 usually have about 4 and DD9 can eat 3,I can only ever manage 2.That's for a sausage casserole.
Something like toad in the hole and I'd have to cook about 22 sausages(there's 7 of us)so not quite as bad as when I'm making sausage casserole.

I can't believe your MIL can think 1 sausage is enough for a grown up.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 29/04/2017 23:25

clumsy I have no idea Grin if I was to serve sausage, potato and veg seperately then I would serve 2 or 3 sausages, but combine the (chopped)sausage and veg in to a casserole and suddenly 8 sausage does 5 portions and everyone would say they had at least 2 sausages on their plate Confused I only found out when I first made it for 3 adults and ended up with 2 portions left over, and it's the same ever since (feeding 5 or less people but leftovers eaten following day) certainly not intentional or even something I can explain, but at least it's cheaper Grin

Forgot to say, I would always do a minimum of 2 extra portions if we had guests, so that everyone could eat as much as they wanted and not feel they had to hold back or it wouldn't go round. Any leftovers (from serving bowls) are eaten the next day so they don't go to waste

clumsyduck · 29/04/2017 23:29

tellme

Oh it's chopped up !! That makes sense ! My little brain was hurting 😂Grin I guess the rest bulks it out ! I can sleep now haha Grin

goose1964 · 29/04/2017 23:34

DH has 5. I have 2

TellMeItsNotTrue · 30/04/2017 00:13

clumsy I'm glad I didn't keep you up all night Grin

It still makes no sense though, I made it thinking 2 people having 3 sausage and 1 person having 2 sausage = 8 sausages, but I was left with 2 full portions and we all felt we had at least 2 sausages on our plate. Ah well, I'm not complaining!

haveacupoftea · 30/04/2017 00:21

2 for me, 3 for DH. I don't do penis portions I'm just not that keen on a lot of meat.

clumsyduck · 30/04/2017 00:22

😂 it's confusing but at least everyone is happy and full!!

PickAChew · 30/04/2017 00:24

Depends on the sausage. Generally 100-150g of sausage for an adult, whether that's 3-4 chipolatas or a couple of fat ones.

sarahmum27 · 30/04/2017 00:29

Blimey...if we're having sausage and mash il buy good quality pork sausages (not Richmond) dp 5 me 4 dd 11 3 dd7 2 dd4 2

We're not a fat family though. I'm shocked that everyone's saying 2-3 Blush

OdinsLoveChild · 30/04/2017 00:32

Depends on the size of them. Our butchers does really lovely fat ones so only 1 each but a pack of Richmond sausages 2 each.

BenjaminLinus · 30/04/2017 00:36

You've just made me eat the leftover sausage that I was saving for a breakfast butty tomorrow - one is plenty in a butty, cut in half - they're from the butcher and huge.

imnottoofussed · 30/04/2017 00:44

Bloody hell id be starving after just one sausage. For an evening meal I would expect 2 fat ones or 4 thin ones.

imnottoofussed · 30/04/2017 00:47

Unless 1 sausage is the equivalent of a steak then you're definitely not eating a proper meal. And don't get me started on people that share a piece of steak between them because their tiny appetites would be full after a few bites of meat.

BlueChairs · 30/04/2017 00:47

3 for me and sister, 2 for mum as she's a small appetite. Sister might have 4 and she's a size 6-8

RubyBluesey · 30/04/2017 00:51

4 for men.... 3 for girls!

PickAChew · 30/04/2017 00:57

A whole 1lb pack of sausages per person is just ridiculous, mind

sarahmum27 · 30/04/2017 00:59

My 4 yo weights 2 stone and can polish off a rack of ribs.
I don't get it when people say that 1 is enough?
You must be snacking between meals or something?

fourandnomore · 30/04/2017 00:59

3-4 here, kids would have 2-3. We all have big appetites though. 1 is crazy, my toddlers wouldn't even be impressed with 1 sausage.

sarahmum27 · 30/04/2017 01:02

Fourandnomore glad we're not the only ones.
