To ask how many sausages for an adult portion

Went to MILs for dinner today. She's done a sausage and bean casserole :P We got one sausage each. When SIL asked if we were on rations MIL pointed out that beans were protein too.... I do 2-3 sausages for an adult depending on size and meat content. How many do you do?

By link sausages, you mean normal ones Fish then they have beef sausages in Tesco. I remember getting them to use as sausage meat when we had a Jewish guest at Christmas dinner.

But I did have to look in a couple of supermarkets and they might not be everywhere - this was in a large Tesco with a good sized local Jewish population that they had a whole aisle of Kosher products.

Those black pudding stuffed square sausages look divine. I suppose that the square sausages are the same as normal ones in that the cheap frozen ones in the supermarket are full of rubbish but a decent butchers one can be a thing of beauty.

2 for me, 3 if I'm extra hungry or feeling piggy. Hubby will eat upto 6 though! Xx

misscarlar · 02/05/2017 08:26

My oh has 3 I have 2 or 3 and our 4 year old has 2. ( but occasionally asks for another)

itsonlysubterfuge · 02/05/2017 09:38

I was going to say 2 or 1. I can't believe how many people eat three. I feel a bit fat and greedy when I have two.

halcyondays · 02/05/2017 09:39

2-3

Whenever i read these threads i often wonder how long peoples meals are? and how many mouthfuls they take?

For me a sausage is 4-5 bites. And with each bite i would have some veg and a bit of mash. So 2 sausages would mean my meal would be 8-10 mouthfuls. That would mean my dinner would be over in about 4 minutes. Hardly worth sitting down for! DH eats even quicker than me and takes bigger bites. So for him a sausage is 3 bites. Once the meat aspect of the dinner is finished that tends to mean the veg is left, (if there was any left). So 3 sausages for DH would mean his dinner is done in 9 bites. Probably 2-4 mins.

If it's sausages on a plate, I'd probably eat four, dh five, ds1 (9) three and ds2 (7) would eat between half of one and four depending on if it's one of his feast or fast days (his natural eating pattern is to eat every other day which has been the case for years).

In a casserole, I do a giant casserole dish at a time and would probably put 16 sausages in (cut up though) and a shed load of veg...but that would do two full meals for 4 plus an extra portion for just the dc for the freezer so goes much further.

Wait wait wait. Square sausage with black pudding in the middle?? And this is in Scotland you say? Do EasyJet allow sausages on internal flights does anyone know?

fantasmasgoria1 · 02/05/2017 16:21

Three! Perhaps just 2 if other ingredients filling but usually three!

anon1987 · 03/05/2017 09:53

4-5 for me 5-6 for dp and 2-3 for dc.
None of us are over weight. We don't eat sausages more then once a month, and we don't snack between meals.
2-3 would not get us through the 14 hours before breakfast that's for sure.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 03/05/2017 11:26

ShelaghTurner I'm sure you can take raw meat, sausages etc on Easy Jet for an internal flight. I would be a bit iffy about the length of time it's out the fridge though. It's not like you can use cool packs etc as they are generally filled with liquid and therefore banned.

Blimey01 · 03/05/2017 11:28

2 official ones on my plate and an extra one I'd eat whilst serving it up.

xStefx · 03/05/2017 11:31

im loving that theres 12 pages on this
3 for an adult I would say
Whats up with MIL?

ShelaghTurner · 03/05/2017 11:44

Thanks Fish. Hmmm. If I got DH to meet me at Gatwick with a cool box...?

AdaColeman · 03/05/2017 14:07

Sausage with a centre of black pudding!!!! That sounds like food of the Gods!

picklemepopcorn · 03/05/2017 14:56

Been out to buy the chorizo and franks for a sausage casserole at the weekend. Mmm.

cece · 03/05/2017 14:58

I have either 2 or 3 depending on appetite.

DH always has 3, sometimes a 4th one.

DS1 (13yrs) has 4

anon1987 · 03/05/2017 19:54

I served chipolata sausages for dinner dd 7 4 dd 4 3.
When I make sausage casserole I sometimes use 2 packs of 24 frozen Cumberland mini cocktail sausages. So 48 mini ones will do all 5 of us. But if using big ones, I'd use 2 packs of 8.
