Actually, we currently make up the lions share of investment coming into the EU - this is based on several very large deals but even if you take these out of the equation we are still outperforming all the other countries in Europe when it comes to external investment. Stop being so negative, I voted remain but our economy is not doing any worse than any other, better in some cases. The best growth in the world is in Australia where they are rabidly right wing! It will all be fine - put the ashes and sack cloths down.

makeourfuture · 28/04/2017 12:49

It"s not over.

chilipepper20 · 28/04/2017 12:49

If someone is being racist but has good policies in other areas, by voting for it, you're saying "racism isn't as much as an issue as these others. Racism is okay as long as x happens

the leave referendum had nothing to do with race. I'd say neither do any of UKIP's policies (point one out if you can).

I'd say right here is WHY we had the leave vote. People are sick of people throwing around the word racist, when the major issue is about something else (immigration).

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 12:51

Chili UKIP want Muslim girls to undergo compulsory body inspections to check they haven't had FGM. That's pretty racist, sexist and authoritarian.

usernamealreadytaken · 28/04/2017 12:52

Jammy YY - IMHO it's far more racist to prioritise allowing our majority white neighbours access to jobs, services, accommodation and benefits whilst not affording the majority of the rest of the non-white world the same access.

Just so every single previous economic downturn must have been the fault of the EU then Hmm Perhaps it's actually a combination of government policy, world economics and consumer trends that affects GDP, or is that really too simplistic?

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 12:52

And if you're going to split hairs over Islam not being a race, do you honestly think it'll be white Muslims subjected to this? They're allowed to select who will be examined.

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 12:52

User that's not what I've said.

wasonthelist · 28/04/2017 12:53

by siding with racist arseholes leave voters decided that racism was an acceptable price to pay.
No.

We decided to vote to leave the EU, that is all.

You seem to think racism didn't exist prior to the referendum, and that we should have voted remain becuse voting leave somehow created racism.

chocorabbit · 28/04/2017 12:55

Likewise, many people repeat that the NHS can't support the burden from immigrants so: out of the EU = less immigration = better NHS funding. Don't immigrants work and pay taxes? Don't many of them work for it? This seems to me like decisive and lazy DM rhetoric to ignore the real solutions to the problem, like the privatisation of the NHS. Even Polly Toynbee had written in the Guardian a few years ago that Labour starting it wasn't as bad as the Tories developing the privatisation as if the absolves them!

Unfortunately it seems to me that the very politicians who supported Brexit did it for their own reasons and not what the average Brexit voter has in mind but in a very sinister way.

I had read once that Daniel Hannan agrees with another politician who said that "the NHS was the biggest mistake after WWII". It seems to me that what they are after, after all is not having to look after the plebs or if the EU guarantees any workers' rights and protection of them any future Tory government (oops, what a coincidence!) now they could simply scrap those pesky laws without the EU having any power to intervene.

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 12:56

Was no I think racists now feel more able to be racist

Blowingthroughthejasmineinmymi · 28/04/2017 12:59

Just

Do you really believe its racist that Ukip have come up with this idea?

Its a very bad idea but what do you suggest to STOP parents from butchering their girls private parts? They had people standing at heathrow last summer, to try and stop people from doing this, do you think that was racist too?

Do you know how many convictions there have been for FGM in the UK and yet how many girls have had their most intimate partsmaimed Angry

Its a stupid idea but I think your anger is directed in the wrong place here.

Justanotherlurker · 28/04/2017 12:59

Chili UKIP want Muslim girls to undergo compulsory body inspections to check they haven't had FGM. That's pretty racist, sexist and authoritarian.

That's a current policy, also Dianne Abbot also tabled the idea in 2014 (iirc), so I suppose she is a racist bigot as well.

wasonthelist · 28/04/2017 13:00

Was no I think racists now feel more able to be racist

And you feel that is my fault.

usernamealreadytaken · 28/04/2017 13:00

Au contraire Just, that's exactly what you said - UK economy slows to 0.3% and inflation is at highest level for 3 years - brexiters are you still happy?. If the current economic issues are the fault of Brexit (which, btw, hasn't actually happened), then all previous economic issues MUST have been caused by the EU, by your rationale.

FreeNiki · 28/04/2017 13:07

Chili UKIP want Muslim girls to undergo compulsory body inspections to check they haven't had FGM. That's pretty racist, sexist and authoritarian.

In a documentary on fgm a young woman who had undergone it at 7 years old. She said that girls should be checked at the airport before leaving on the understanding they'd be checked again on return and the parents arrested.

She said no one else should have to undergo what she had.

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 13:08

Blowing

Yes, I think it's racist.

That doesn't mean I'm not against female genital mutilation. It's disgusting. But this policy is not helpful.

Just if Dianne Abbott said that, in that case, she was being racist too.

User I haven't mentioned the economy. Take that up sith the OP.

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 13:10

Free

And? That doesn't make it right or a good policy. Her idea, while I can see where it comes from, isn't fair.

Blowingthroughthejasmineinmymi · 28/04/2017 13:10

Most people agree Prevention is better than cure - although there is no cure from FGM.

Its secret and hidden away and its the girls own parents who instigate this abuse. If there was a risk your child would be checked would you do it - knowing you could be prosecuted?

Its an awful idea but I thought the idea would be prevention.

chilipepper20 · 28/04/2017 13:11

UKIP want Muslim girls to undergo compulsory body inspections to check they haven't had FGM. That's pretty racist, sexist and authoritarian.

googling, the one article I read on this (so I assume it is not official party platform) is that "high risk" groups should be checked. That neither goes along religious lines or racial lines (it's more of a cultural issue than a religious one).

That's not to say it isn't the stupidest policy I have ever heard of (it literally might be), and it's also not to say that I would expect UKIP to make the distinction between muslims and truly "high risk" groups. It's a truly idiotic policy, but I am not sure it is a racist.

do you honestly think it'll be white Muslims subjected to this?

Is it suspected that any of them have had this done? Perhaps we should be focussing on catholic mexicans for this particular issue while we are at it.

I saw one youtube interview with Peter something (ukip deputy) and his claim was that they do "this" in France. Well, googling suggests that he isn't entirely wrong. France is much more aggressive about battling this. So much so, that people are travelling from France to here to have this done. Furthermore, googling suggests that French doctors do look for this in young girls.

Blowingthroughthejasmineinmymi · 28/04/2017 13:11

just

Its an idea your railing agaisnt - a mooted idea to try and stop child abuse, and bodily mutilation.
Whats not fair is young girls being mutilated.

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 13:12

Blowing I understand the idea but it's a poor policy.

CopperRose · 28/04/2017 13:17

But it's a policy enforced within France.
A founding member of the benevolent, caring, tolerant and entirely non-racist EU.

It's not policy in Britain, yet it magically becomes a racist policy because UKIP suggested it, even though it apparently isn't considered racist when France are actually doing it?

usernamealreadytaken · 28/04/2017 13:18

Just apologies, that comment was to OP but somehow became you Blush

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 13:21

Chili high risk groups will target a particular race usually. And that's my issue, that they won't differentiate.

The average UKIP voter can't differentiate between "Muslim" and "brown". Agsin using my own experience, several UKIP voters have accused us of being Muslim. DP is atheist and not even from a Muslim family. It's so racist!

What other countries do is their business, it doesn't make it right. It's objectifying.

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 13:22

Copper I haven't said it's not rascist. I was asked to point out a racist UKIP policy.
