Or regret your choice? Brexit the gift that keeps on giving :(

I don't regret my choice and I know you don't either :)

brexitstolemyfuture · 28/04/2017 10:47

But why don't you? What light do you see? I'd love to have some positivity on it all.

I don't regret my choice, I'm still excited about it. I made the choice because I think there will be long term benefits.

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 10:48

Of course they're happy - as long as anyone who's not English feels unwelcome they've succeeded.

It irritates me so much.

DrinkMilkAndKickAss · 28/04/2017 10:49

I'm as pro-remain as they come but given we haven't actually left the EU yet I think it's a bit of a stretch blaming this on Brexit. Awful government policy, yes, Brexit, no.

wasonthelist · 28/04/2017 10:50

Perfectly happy to have voted leave, if that's what you mean. These figures haven't suddenly made me think I did the wrong thing.

DrinkMilkAndKickAss · 28/04/2017 10:50

I do agree though that in other ways we have felt the effects of Brexit already, politically/socially, but only time will tell economically.

Applebite · 28/04/2017 10:51

brexit hasn't even begun yet.

it could be the biggest disaster anyone could ever have had nightmares about. or it could turn out to be great if the weaker economies in Europe pull it down the plughole and we got off the sinking ship before it disappears.

the point is, at this stage we don't know. you'd need a crystal ball. in ten years time we might have an idea!

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 10:51

What bothers me about leavevoters is while they're not all racist, they've sided with those who are, and made those who are feel bold and that their views are acceptable. Acknowledge it.

wasonthelist · 28/04/2017 10:51

That isn't why I voted leave.

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 10:53

Was Maybd not but you knew the type of people you were siding with. You decided that your reason was more important than the rights and comforts of immigrants (and anyone of an ethnic minority, English or otherwise).

You sided with racists.

I fully acknowledge it. Now you need to acknowledge that some racist people voted remain, too.

wasonthelist · 28/04/2017 10:54

You sided with racists.

So did you

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 10:55

I'm sure some did. However it's not remainers who are now being vocally racist and harassing people.

It bothers me that people knew this would happen and went ahead.

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 10:56

Was the remain campaign wasn't based on racism or with racist inplications. Nor would it have given substance to those opinions

Laiste · 28/04/2017 10:56

What bollox.

I voted stay but i can see people have different reasons for voting differently. Be bothered by the racists by all means, but don't expect people to be held ransom to a minority.

wasonthelist · 28/04/2017 10:57

Your username suggests otherwise :)

Laiste

If someone is being racist but has good policies in other areas, by voting for it, you're saying "racism isn't as much as an issue as these others. Racism is okay as long as x happens"

wasonthelist · 28/04/2017 11:02

It bothers me that people knew this would happen and went ahead.

I didn't "know this would happen". On the voting slip I filled in there were two options, niether of them was offering an increase in racist attacks.

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 11:03

Was it was pretty obvious the leave side was playing on racial issues.

Applebite · 28/04/2017 11:04

kitten - that's a ridiculous argument. there were only two sides! people had lots of different reasons for voting the way they did. they voted for the policies, not their fellow voters.

(for the record, I am a remainer who is trying to put a positive face on what has happened - but i know a lot of people who voted leave based entirely on their fears for Europe's economic stability [and one who feels passionately that the EU has royally fucked over a lot of people in Greece, spain and southern Italy].

one of my friends is a Tunisian investment banker and he says if he could have voted, he would have voted out like a shot, because he thinks there are far better financial prospects outside the EU. i don't agree with him, but now i hope he's right!

wasonthelist · 28/04/2017 11:05

In the case of a General Election I would agree, which is why, for example, I would never vote UKIP or BNP, but the referendum was a single issue.

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 11:06

Apple I understand that. But if anyone thought under a right wing leader, a campaign with racist comments wouldn't increase racism, they're naive.

JustAKitten · 28/04/2017 11:07

Was that's a fair point, but the referendum will have more of an impact than a general election because it can't be changed every 5 years

wasonthelist · 28/04/2017 11:07

That is undoubtedly true of some on the leave side, but not everyone.
