Nose job booked for tomorrow. AIBU to not go?

Name changed.

I have a large nose. It's not huge but unsightly and affects the way my face looks. I've never been called ugly but I felt I would feel so much more confident without it.

I went for my consultation and discussed what I wanted. The cosmetic surgeon made some plans for me and I agreed to the procedure.

However, today I went for my pre-op appointment and the two receptionists stopped me to say they've never said this before but they genuinely thought my nose was absolutely fine and they had no idea why I was changing it.

They seemed very genuine.

Now I've got doubts about having the procedure tomorrow.

I don't hate my looks at all. It's literally just my nose. I don't have low self esteem. But maybe I'm wrong.

I know you can let me know if my nose is awful as you haven't seen it, but do you think the receptionists say that to everyone? AIBU to reconsider on the basis of their opinions?

Very random thread I know Grin

I think you'll regret it if you go ahead. Either it will make you feel no better about yourself (because you look lovely now and there's nothing to change, or you will fixate on something else next) or it will make you feel worse (because your new nose doesn't suit your face or because it goes wrong and you look bad at the end).

Do you think your new nose will make your loved ones love you more, or make you more interesting or accomplished? Why is the way you look so very important to you? Questions to ask yourself.

Freddiethefrogity · 25/04/2017 22:55

Thanks everyone. I will decide tomorrow.

I wasn't expecting this to get so many replies so thank you.

I obviously have a decision to make by tomorrow.

Cancel it. You can always revisit if it turns out that you really did want to do it. You can't undo it, once done, though.

I have a big bent nose with a prominent bridge and a droopy septum. It only ever bothered me when I was a young teenager and other teenage girls were typically cruel teenage girls - and "friends" with another one who was incredibly insecure about her own and told me how she didn't know how I could stand myself.

No one has even mentioned it to me since I was about 15. I also think the 70s and 80s and earlier "fashion" for pointy chiseled noses (unless you're Barbara Streisand) is well and truly over. There are many women considered beautiful who have a pretty impressive hooter.

FurryLittleTwerp · 25/04/2017 23:04

The surgeon won't want to do it if you have cold feet - Plastic Surgeons pay tens of thousands of pounds a year in insurance in case someone sues them - the risk of patients being unhappy with the result is very high indeed!

Itsnotwhatitseems · 25/04/2017 23:30

Ive never had an issue with my nose, my sister said she wished she had mine but the other night my son and his girlfriend were discussing what their future children may look like. I noticed they both had the same nose (in fact they are often mistaken for brother and sister) I said, I expect heir childrenn will have the same nose, then they both piped up at the same time "as long as it doesn't have your nose"...we laughed about it later but I asked "whats wrong with my nose" and they went on to say "its fine, but you wouldn't need a fake nose to play a clown, you already have a tomato for a nose, you would just need to colour it red"...now ive got to the age of 52 without even noticing my nose, and was surprised others did!

wineusuallyhelps · 26/04/2017 07:21

I wouldn't be posting if I thought you needed a nose job.

Sincerely, you look beautiful and your face is in proportion.

Will you have any negative thoughts if you look in the mirror after the operation and you no longer feel you look like 'you'? Just a thought.

Good luck with whatever you have decided.

Op - I didn't see the pic but I believe everyone saying you're gorgeous. Please postpone/ cancel it and learn to love your nose. Other surgeons don't want to do it cuz you don't need it, and it's difficult to get right right. Doesn't matter if you lose some money; you're not 100% so don't do it.

UrsulaPandress · 26/04/2017 08:12

Well?

👃👀

Applebite · 26/04/2017 08:17

I'll go in your place if you like. I fucking hate my massive bent hooter, it ruins every picture of me (thanks dad). But DP hates the idea, silly sod says he loves me just as I am.

Seriously though, if you're having second thoughts, why not postpone and do a bit more research on/give a bit more thought to the things that are worrying you?

AgathaMystery · 26/04/2017 08:27

Good luck today whatever you do x

Maudlinmaud · 26/04/2017 08:47

Hi op. I saw your pic last night. This am my dc had mtv on before school and I saw a singer who looks just like you. Julia Michaels Issues. Anyway good luck.

Applebite · 26/04/2017 08:51

Also, there is a poster called "feed the shark and it will bite" - this has really cheered up my morning!!

ciele · 26/04/2017 09:26

Would love to see an 'after' if you go ahead!

oldwife · 26/04/2017 09:27

I haven't seen your photo OP - but I will sat that if you ha r doubts then don't do it.

What's another few weeks/months?

I had my nose done a few months ago. I see a huge difference as so those who know about the op. Most of my family are none the wiser though.

I worried before hand which I think is quite normal but the nurses didn't voice an opinion either way prior to op. They did compliment me after though.

Don't rush in if you aren't sure. It can't be undone

CFSKate · 26/04/2017 09:34

"I think it's too late to cancel now anyway without losing all the fees for the procedure so I feel I may as well go for it."

This is a very bad reason.

You say two receptionists. So if there were two of them, they probably discussed whether they should say anything, and decided between them that they just had to say something to you.

HappydaysArehere · 26/04/2017 09:58

Cannot access the image but if in doubt do nowt.

DissonantInterval · 26/04/2017 10:08

Gosh this is a difficult one if you are likely to lose what you've paid for cancelling so late on. I was going to suggest postponing it for a few months to make sure it's really what you want to do.

Though it doesn't sound as if the bone is going to need breaking to straighten the nose? DD had that done plus end re-shaping and said it felt as if someone had chucked a brick at her face afterwards. I wanted mine doing and she said to only have it done if I was desperate to because it hurt. A lot. But hers sounds a bigger op and of course everyone's experience of and tolerance to pain is different.

The pic had already been removed by the time I read thread so can't comment on that but it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks really. it's what YOU think. I do know a surgeon (same one who did DDs) that told another prospective patient, he wouldn't do anything to hers. Which I thought was very interesting and very honest.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do tomorrow.

WellErrr · 26/04/2017 10:12

If several reputable surgeons have refused then there must be a reason.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 10:13

Applebite

Aww, thanks Blush

Tootsiepops · 26/04/2017 10:18

I cancelled my liposuction procedure (hips) as I was sitting on the train on the way to the clinic. I had a sudden realisation that, as I'd already had a breast reduction and tummy tuck, I'd never be happy. I was just shifting my focus to other perceived 'problems', and the issue was my self esteem rather than my body. If you do have surgery, I hope it is for the right reasons, but it doesn't seem sensible to keep pursuing something that several medical professionals have said no to.

Freddiethefrogity · 26/04/2017 17:20

Thanks everyone. I cancelled the operation Grin

OP posts:
DissonantInterval · 26/04/2017 17:24

Freddie can't do any harm to take more time working out if you really want this doing or not. I remember DDs surgeon asking her before she went down to the operating theatre whether she was still totally sure she was happy to go ahead. She was obviously scared but knew it's what she wanted. It did make a big difference to her appearance and her confidence. This guy even at the very last moment wanted to be sure she was happy with her decision. I'm guessing you won't be the only person to have cancelled late on. It was very sensible though.

KindDogsTail · 26/04/2017 17:31

I did not see the photos. Are they still here somewhere?

In my opinion, I think sometimes people might have been better off not getting a new nose because the new one hasn't the character of the original.

ImLadybird · 26/04/2017 17:39

Oh good! Thanks for the update! I was wondering!
