To think that some left-wing supporters are just so NASTY

cathf · 22/04/2017 14:22

This is based on posts I have read on here and a couple of very vocal left-wing friends I have on facebook.
I have truly never read a Conservative supporter personally attacking Labour in the same way.
I find it astonishing and if I am honest, a bit childish.
Recent examples include a website pulling Teresa May's living room apart and costing out every single thing in it, to a chorus of comments along the lines of how can she sleep at night when children are hungry and she has a £25 candle.
Every time the subject is raised on here, there is a long thread of hysterical comments about how nasty the Tories are. Yes, Tory supporters state their case and answer back, but they seem to be able to do it in a more restrained, mature manner than outraged Labour screamers.
There seems to be a lot of personal bile aimed at Teresa May, which I am at a loss to understand - just what has she done that is so terrible?
She is pushing through Brexit, but that was what the country voted for. Is she supposed to go against the country's wishes?
All of Labour's policies look very lovely, but none have any substance at all. My friend recently stated on Facebook she was supporting Jeremy Corbyn because he wanted peace not war. And? How is he going to implement that then? It reminds me of the 1980s T-shirts stating War is Stupid. Lots of nice words, but to implementation strategies.
It amazes me that supposedly intelligent people seem to be so brainwashed by this nonsense and think that flinging mud is an appopriate way to behave.
Is it just me?

That's cos more weegies leave the place Grin

"The most vocal I know are fairly well off with rather idealistic views and an inability to consider anything else or anyone else's point of view. Simply hating Tories for being Tories seems to be their common theme."

Yeah, course they are/do/it is.

cathf · 22/04/2017 18:23

The left seem to think they have a monopoly on morality, and anyone disagreeing with their view of morality is nasty, evil etc etc.
The high moral views held by Corbyn and his followers are all very well, but there doesn't seem to be much thought going into how things will be executed.
Tax The Rich seems to be the left's answer to every funding shortfall, but what happens when The Rich leave the UK because they are too highly taxed?
Make Big Business Pay is another favourite - but the last Labour government failed to do that.
More Money for the NHS - from where? By the time benefits have been raised, all young children get free school meals, education is funded more generously, rail travel is privatised and everything else Labour are promising, there's not going to be much left.
Words, morals and kindness are free, but implementing them are not as easy as people seem to think.
If it were that easy, every Government would do those things, wouldn't they??

PickAChew · 22/04/2017 18:27

The Tory press was really above all the petty shit when they were analysing Ed Milliband's kitchen Hmm

NoLotteryWinYet · 22/04/2017 18:30

On the other hand, although I voted for Ed, he was a talentless politician from the political nous perspective - why on earth does he have two kitchens and or was photographed in the crap one? Surely someone could've foreseen that blowing up in his face!

NoLotteryWinYet · 22/04/2017 18:31

At least the woman Gordon Brown slagged off really was a zenophobe, at best!

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 22/04/2017 18:32

Education is funded more generously

hahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

You clearly believe what you are being told by the government. In which case, anyone who disagrees with you, you will call unreasonable or nasty.

Plenty of people realise much of what you have stated above is , at best spin, at worst downright lies. Some of those people may vote labour, some libdem and some Tory because they perhaps aren't focusing on those issues but on others. But please don't try and sell the current conservative government as the party of compassion and public expenditure.

It's not really the point of your OP though, is it? Which was to say that only the left wing are nasty.

Dannythechampion · 22/04/2017 18:32

"Tax The Rich seems to be the left's answer to every funding shortfall, but what happens when The Rich leave the UK because they are too highly taxed?"

Not really going to happen, on top of this, taxing income above 70k ata the 50 % rate means that someone on £75 k pays an extra £48 a month in tax ( or about £500 a year) its hardly breaking the bank.

"Make Big Business Pay is another favourite - but the last Labour government failed to do that"

The last labour government had higher rates of coroporation tax, avoidance has been going on for decades. But also it was 7 years ago now, what have the Tories done in that time?

"If it were that easy, every Government would do those things, wouldn't they??"

No, the Conservative government are ideologically opposed ( or were) to state intervention.

JustAKitten · 22/04/2017 18:34

Dannythechampion covered what I was about to Grin

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 22/04/2017 18:34

Oh , hah ha oops ! Just realised it's Labour you are saying will fund education.

Guess you realise then that the Tories aren't.

So that's OK then.

PigletJohn · 22/04/2017 18:34

"Tax The Rich seems to be the left's answer to every funding shortfall, but what happens when The Rich leave the UK because they are too highly taxed?"

Rich bankers don't live in the UK because of the tax rate. They live here for the decent living conditions, schools, culture, and because their wives can speak English.

Rich Russian gangsters don't live in the UK because of the low tax rate. They live here because there is not much corruption and they will probably not be killed by other gangsters or imprisoned by Mr Putin.

The rich owner of the Daily Mail doesn't own a mansion, estate and business in the UK because of the low tax rate, because he doesn't pay tax.

Dannythechampion · 22/04/2017 18:35

"Education is funded more generously"

Its not, the overall nominal figure is larger because there are more students in schools, the spending per head per student is down, the costs of schools have been inflated ( extra pension payments, higher employers NI, apprenticeship levy etc) with no extra funding made available.

If schools were better funded how come cuts to budgets have been going on since 2010? You should see the difference in what schools were able to provide under the Labour administration and what they are able to now, its stark, and it isn't better.

Education is not better funded.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 22/04/2017 18:36

My gran always told me 'people vote Labour because they care about others; people vote Tory because they care about themselves'. Stuck with me throughout life.

She was a lifelong Tory ! Grin

CopperRose · 22/04/2017 18:36

Yeah we hate the tories for being tories, and not because they attack the vulnerable and promote racism sexism and xenophobia Hmm

Gosh!
All Tories:
Attack the vulnerable
Promote racism
Promote sexism
Promote xenophobia

Crikey!

Looks like they don't have the monopoly on hyperbole though.... WinkGrin

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 22/04/2017 18:37

Danny think you misread OP's post too...

JustAKitten · 22/04/2017 18:38

Copper their policies do. So while they individually may not, they are siding with people who do.

CopperRose · 22/04/2017 18:39

At least the woman Gordon Brown slagged off really was a zenophobe, at best!

Was she Notlottery?

Why?

SoSoConfused · 22/04/2017 18:41

YANBU, OP. I'm a foreigner and DH would vote for Tory if he could, he is from the NE so it's utterly pointless. I come from the real world where if you don't work, nobody feeds you. People from my part of the world care about education very much because that's the only way to get out of poverty. In the UK I've met too many Lefties who are lazy and who couldn't give a shit about their kids' education. This includes some people we personally know so before you accuse me, it's not a case of hearsay. And yes their morality is apparently so high but not so high to pretend to be disabled which disadvantage genuine disabled people, or to quit a job after a day (he said he wanted to enjoy the summer!) when I work hard for my living and pay tax that goes to them! I am sick of hearing them glorifying the Labour party because their dads voted for the Labour, try to have a proper rational debate and it would turn into a nasty fuck the rich shouting game. Oh how they hate the wealthy or normal people like us who have worked damn hard to get to where we are. If they win the lottery their tune would change very, very fast though. They'd be worse than the worst Tories I've known!

NoLotteryWinYet · 22/04/2017 18:42

I've had this meme of 'if you care about people don't vote Tory' on Facebook and it is irksome.

Nobody who is a moderate leftie appallled at JC's leadership and policies has come up with a better way to get party members to vote him out than not voting labour whilst he's in charge.

I do care about people - on the evidence I reckon they'll be worse off if Corbyn had a mandate to try and implement his policies. And based on the McCluskey-Coyne debacle, I don't think Corbyn is any kind of man I can trust.

Pondering whether I've morphed into a nasty bastard after 20 years of solid unthinking labour voting.

needsahalo · 22/04/2017 18:44

but what happens when The Rich leave the UK because they are too highly taxed?

Where is you think all The Rich are going to go?

NoLotteryWinYet · 22/04/2017 18:46

copper because she was going on about Eastern European immigrants.

WobblyLegs5 · 22/04/2017 18:54

Copper -we are the first and only country in the UN to have been investigated and found guilty of violating the rights of people with disabilities (and no one-governement/media/public- gaf) and that's from dc time as pm. The most vulnerable group in society and no one cares they are dying because of tory policies.

We are a country that has more than enough to go around for everyone. Yet the most vulnerable group are dying-many of starvation or suicide. So yeah, considering this left wingers hate tories. Hyperbole doesn't apply when it's littleraly life or death for many.

I am lucky enough to have more than enough more my disabled children. And I have insider knowledge of how the system works when it comes to filling in benefits forms and applying for ehcps and caring children with disabilities. But so many don't. And I'm well aware that my circumstances could change and my disabled children become victim to the target on their backs. Hyperbole becomes very dissmissive term within these discussions.

Who was the poster who naively voted tory thinking her disabled daughters and her (dis able as well) would be better off then learnt from it in the harshed ways? I love when she pops up because (while I'd never wish someone ends up with disabled children for the children's sake) I love seeing the reality that this can happen to anyone anytime anywhere.

mirime · 22/04/2017 18:56

I don't hate Tory voters, I work with two lovely people who vote Tory. I have family members who vote UKIP, don't hate them either, just don't discuss politics with them.

I don't think Tories are evil either. In the case of the government I don't think they're deliberately murdering people, I think that actually a lot of them just don't care about the outcome of their policies probably because they don't feel negative outcomes like suicides are their responsibility.

I won't vote Tory because of what they did in the 1980's, because they left the South Wales valleys to rot. I won't vote Tory because of what they are doing now to the vulnerable and because I know someone who killed himself and one of the things tormenting him was his inability to work and one of the things he was scared of was being found fit to work. He was a lovely man and he shouldn't have been worrying about either of those things.

LouKout · 22/04/2017 18:59

Sosoconfused your post is so hypocritical

LouKout · 22/04/2017 19:00

A nasty wee rant on a thread saying left wingers are nasty.
