To think that some left-wing supporters are just so NASTY

cathf · 22/04/2017 14:22

This is based on posts I have read on here and a couple of very vocal left-wing friends I have on facebook.
I have truly never read a Conservative supporter personally attacking Labour in the same way.
I find it astonishing and if I am honest, a bit childish.
Recent examples include a website pulling Teresa May's living room apart and costing out every single thing in it, to a chorus of comments along the lines of how can she sleep at night when children are hungry and she has a £25 candle.
Every time the subject is raised on here, there is a long thread of hysterical comments about how nasty the Tories are. Yes, Tory supporters state their case and answer back, but they seem to be able to do it in a more restrained, mature manner than outraged Labour screamers.
There seems to be a lot of personal bile aimed at Teresa May, which I am at a loss to understand - just what has she done that is so terrible?
She is pushing through Brexit, but that was what the country voted for. Is she supposed to go against the country's wishes?
All of Labour's policies look very lovely, but none have any substance at all. My friend recently stated on Facebook she was supporting Jeremy Corbyn because he wanted peace not war. And? How is he going to implement that then? It reminds me of the 1980s T-shirts stating War is Stupid. Lots of nice words, but to implementation strategies.
It amazes me that supposedly intelligent people seem to be so brainwashed by this nonsense and think that flinging mud is an appopriate way to behave.
Is it just me?

I've just jumped to the end of this thread but in terms of people being nasty and immature - Boris and Cameron set the tone with their private school boy bullying. I'll never forget Cameron telling Corbin to put on a tie - if that isn't nasty what is?
I'm experiencing the opposite of the post - so far I'm being patronised by conservative supporters on a daily basis.

caroldecker · 05/05/2017 00:23

Diasabrie if the worst insult/nastiest you can think of is being told to put on a tie, you have lived a very sheltered life.
This is who \corbyn respects.

Labour are over, as evidenced in last nights local elections. The working class are finished with them, for good, for good reason.
They no longer represent people who work.
Sad but true.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/05/2017 07:10

Not as 'over' as UKIP appear to be , happily.

user1471439240 · 05/05/2017 07:38

Democracy in action, Ukip split the Labour vote and handed it to the Tories - the new party for people who work. Ukip have served the Tories well.

Alfieisnoisy · 05/05/2017 07:40

Massive Tory victory here in Essex. I could cry quite honestly as so many people are suffering under them, I can also quite honestly see why people have voted for them though...they don't see an alternative. UKIP wiped out though so am pleased about that.

Gah81 · 05/05/2017 07:47

I agree OP. Am on the left myself (and very politically active) and there are nasty buggers on both sides. However, the left does seem to virulently dislike the right, in a way I don't see from Tory friends/activists/opponents towards the left.

One of my Labour friends said it's because the Left believes politics matters, while the Right treats it as a game. Don't think that's right but it's an interesting perspective.

makeourfuture · 05/05/2017 08:19

Again, one of the benefits of wealth/power is that one can quietly and politely do nothing.

cathf · 05/05/2017 13:05

Wow, this thread has grown legs!
For the avoidance of doubt, I was not talking about politicians themselves - they can be cutting on both sides.
I was talking about left-wing supporters, ordinary people if you like.
As an example, my very vocal leftwing friend posted a couple of days ago a link to a website (it might have been The Canary) where some Tory MP had criticised Corbyn, saying he was out of touch with Labour voters. I would call that kind of comment political argument, but it was followed by a lot of comments including one from my friend saying simply Tory Scum. Now, if that is not nasty, I don't know what is, and I genuinely don't think you would get such mindlessly vicious attacks if the tables were turned.
THAT is what I was talking about. Gah81 understands my point exactly.

I don't think she does OP, given her final paragraph in her post.

Hey ho.

BigGrannyPants · 06/05/2017 18:16

OP I am left wing, I have very strong feelings against the Torys because they have made my life harder, they have and are still destroying the NHS. They have and are still making life impossible for people with disabilities. A family member of mine is having his illness reclassified which means he will no longer be entitled to medication, which means he will be housebound and require round the clock care (which won't be provided for him) just now he is wheelchair bound but still able to have a life, this will all stop soon. My family has to choose between food and heating. Thank goodness the better weather is here. The decisions they make, put children in poverty. So when someone votes for the Tories I can't help but feel anger against them because their vote is making my life harder. I am newly disabled and I will just decline now because of the nature of my condition. I very much doubt the NHS will exist as we know it, when I really need it. So imho people who vote Tory are people who are bumping along quite nicely and not being too badly effected by the cuts etc and have not considered the people who are really struggling, either that or they have considered them and just don't care. So when I can't provide for my children because inflation is rising but salaries are not, food prices are going up (wait for Brexit and they'll shoot up even further) I won't apologise for feeling anger towards the people who are voting for the party, who are pushing my family in to poverty.

HelenaDove · 06/05/2017 18:27

Gah Kelvin McKenzie is a Tory supporter. So is Katie Hopkins. They have both said very vile things. Enough to fall foul of the law.

BigGranny Thanks

Alfie im in Essex too. My area is a Tory stronghold.

sexymuthafunker · 11/05/2017 22:21

Yup OP all those mean nasty labour supporters caring about:

A well funded education system
A well funded NHS
£10 minimum wage
An end to public sector wage freeze
Free hospital parking
Affordable housing
Peaceful foreign policy
Publicly owned utilities to bring bills down....
The list goes on.
Selfish fuckers really those labour voting people Hmm

SomeOtherFuckers · 11/05/2017 23:50

Right wingers don't attack in the same way because they already think they're superior ... I'm middle class but a left wing liberal and you're demonstrating this with your ' they argue back in a more mature way' equating liberals to children. I don't agree with the TM bashing but nevertheless you are misguided if you think the Tory supporters don't have their own way of mud slinging

SomeOtherFuckers · 11/05/2017 23:51

And I would rather vote for ideology which I agree with than feasible plans that I disagree with ... what's so hard to grasp.

SomeOtherFuckers · 11/05/2017 23:54

Oh and I am a usual-Tory turned conservative .. but I may be biased by my brexit anger and I'm aware of this ... either way it's my vote , not yours, and if we try to limit who can vote by who actually knows what's happening rather than media sharing then we would probably end up with less eligible voters than before the 20s.

SomeOtherFuckers · 11/05/2017 23:56

Turned labour Confused

Anon213 · 11/05/2017 23:58

The left is very very angry they have been saddled with someone like 'Jeremy Corbyn'. They just cant cope with having to defend such hard core left borrow and spend policies. Heads up, its not our fault you picked him, so stop blaming the rest of the country.

caroldecker · 14/05/2017 01:53

Generally Tories think Labour supporters are well meaning but misguided, Labour supporters think tories are evil.
You only need to look at the world-wide history of socialist failure to see why the tories are correct.
Take Scotland university fees, a higher proportion of poor are going to university in England than Scotland - fees support the poor, free education supports the rich.
Free prescriptions for all in Scotland support the rich.
Most socialist policies damage the poor - just ask the Venezuelans.

malificent7 · 14/05/2017 04:35

As a left wing person i am angry with the Tories as i am in poverty thanks to austerity. I dont stand a chance of owning my own home, i work ft and am still poor, my sector in education is mostly zero hour contracts and im against Brexit. And i went to private scholl so am privaleged. Educated to post grad level too.
Forgive me for being mildly pissed off. We need anger to bring change tbh.

Abra1d · 14/05/2017 05:16

And i went to private scholl so am privaleged. Educated to post grad level too.

I'd be angry too.

Jupitar · 14/05/2017 07:36

🙄
Or maybe we're angry you keep attacking Corbyn instead of looking at his policies and explaining why you don't like them? And yes they are affordable, if we can afford wars we can afford to save the NHS

makeourfuture · 14/05/2017 07:36

socialist failure to see why the tories are correct

The Scandinavian blend seems to be working out OK.

Shockers · 14/05/2017 08:39

I'm more angry that we've been saddled with Theresa May and Brexit, personally.

Corbin is a breath of fresh air in a world of cynicism and greed.

Shockers · 14/05/2017 08:40

Not sure why my phone decided to autocorrect that.
