To think that some left-wing supporters are just so NASTY

cathf · 22/04/2017 14:22

This is based on posts I have read on here and a couple of very vocal left-wing friends I have on facebook.
I have truly never read a Conservative supporter personally attacking Labour in the same way.
I find it astonishing and if I am honest, a bit childish.
Recent examples include a website pulling Teresa May's living room apart and costing out every single thing in it, to a chorus of comments along the lines of how can she sleep at night when children are hungry and she has a £25 candle.
Every time the subject is raised on here, there is a long thread of hysterical comments about how nasty the Tories are. Yes, Tory supporters state their case and answer back, but they seem to be able to do it in a more restrained, mature manner than outraged Labour screamers.
There seems to be a lot of personal bile aimed at Teresa May, which I am at a loss to understand - just what has she done that is so terrible?
She is pushing through Brexit, but that was what the country voted for. Is she supposed to go against the country's wishes?
All of Labour's policies look very lovely, but none have any substance at all. My friend recently stated on Facebook she was supporting Jeremy Corbyn because he wanted peace not war. And? How is he going to implement that then? It reminds me of the 1980s T-shirts stating War is Stupid. Lots of nice words, but to implementation strategies.
It amazes me that supposedly intelligent people seem to be so brainwashed by this nonsense and think that flinging mud is an appopriate way to behave.
Is it just me?

"The left (not all of them but some) can be very rude and the Conservatives tend to be less so. However a lot of that is just upbringing and class"

And there is excellent evidence of that class around page 15.

Since we were talking about non-existent poverty a few pages back , I thought I'd leave this here:

Ah dear old Edwina. Hmm

I remember egg-gate circa 1988.

BigGrannyPants · 26/04/2017 22:32

@ILikeBeansWithKetchup you might as well be banging your head off a brick wall, re Finland, Scotland etc it's a real pity but people don't really want the facts, they just want to live in their wee bubble. You sound like you are well informed and it's lost on some people

Justanotherlurker · 26/04/2017 22:33

Not sure why your posting that CIF article in a thread such as this, if your trying to score political points, class has been dismissed as a voter block hence the labour vote who are now worried about £70K not being rich and the outcry of the welsh abandoning labour

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 26/04/2017 22:36

Thanks Granny Smile

IN. YOUR. OPINION.

And that right there is the key thing about all of your statements.

Its your opinion, based on your experience, and what you choose to see.

Why would it be so difficult to conyemplate that others might see things differently?

ThisAintALoveSong · 26/04/2017 22:47

Just watching House of Commons debate from earlier today. Theresa May cracking nasty jokes at Jeremy Corbyn. That's all well and good Theresa and raises a lot of laughs from your cabinet but people in the real world are genuinely suffering and you're supposed to represent them!
The tories really are the nasty party

BillSykesDog · 27/04/2017 00:05

Er, Love, Labour are just as guilty of doing that as the Tories. I've seen Corbyn do the same to her.

I object to the old boys club 'ner, ner, ner' style of our parliament too. But that is its style and it's not particular to one side or the other.

HelenaDove · 27/04/2017 00:06

"The class of people voting Tory now has gone right down the drain"

From an episode of Steptoe and Son on Drama now.

I'll have to give you a +1 for this.

Labour also bray and snigger. It isn't all just one way.

Livelovebehappy · 27/04/2017 06:54

I wouldn't have thought it necessary for opposition parties to verbally insult Corbyn. He's hardly a threat, and may even gain him some sympathy votes if people start feeling sorry for him. He can do the most damage to his party by just talking. The man is so out of his depth, it's embarrassing.

Tanith · 27/04/2017 07:08

The Foreign Secretary evidently thinks it's necessary.

Shockers · 27/04/2017 07:15

I think it depends on what you read and where you source 'news' from. There are mudslingers on every side , the trick is to listen to those who are talking sensibly and make an informed decision.

Tanith · 27/04/2017 07:24

That's not strictly true any more.

I don't read the Sun. The article by Boris has been linked by other news sites.

When I linked it here, the first response was not a condemnation of his remarks, but an added attack on Jeremy Corbyn.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 27/04/2017 07:25

Why are they so bothered about him if he isnt a threat? But like Scottish independence..why want to keep Scotland if its such a drain, as people say?

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 27/04/2017 07:26

Sorry But=bit

Soutty · 27/04/2017 07:27

If someone told me that they were feeding their kids cat food I would report them to social services.

If you can buy a tin of cat food you can buy a potato and mash it up. I suspect however, that either the person was telling lies for sympathy or they didn't consider food a priority when it came to working out what to spend their child benefit etc on.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 27/04/2017 07:28
Hmm
ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 27/04/2017 08:21

Oh for goodness sake Soutty I did explain that my mother WAS social services. Confused

Read the post properly.

I am not sure where the potato was meant to come from given there was only one corner shop - but , anyway, I am equally unsure how a mashed potato constitutes a meal. One of the biggest problems in deprived areas in non deprived workers being parachuted in to give impractical - and sometimes expensive- nutritional advice.

The example of cat food was an extreme example to prove that people do live in dire poverty. eating a potato a day would prove entirely the same point.

If you want the reason for the cat food (which I didn't give because I thought some might sneer) we are often kinder to animals in this country and protect them more than we do children. If people own pets , in some areas you can visit a PDSA or similar and get vouchers to get free or very cheap cat food (you will have seen also the bins in supermarkets for collections). So some people were abusing this part of the system. Doesn't make it right and is one of the reasons why foodbanks have expanded their work.
