To think that some left-wing supporters are just so NASTY

cathf · 22/04/2017 14:22

This is based on posts I have read on here and a couple of very vocal left-wing friends I have on facebook.
I have truly never read a Conservative supporter personally attacking Labour in the same way.
I find it astonishing and if I am honest, a bit childish.
Recent examples include a website pulling Teresa May's living room apart and costing out every single thing in it, to a chorus of comments along the lines of how can she sleep at night when children are hungry and she has a £25 candle.
Every time the subject is raised on here, there is a long thread of hysterical comments about how nasty the Tories are. Yes, Tory supporters state their case and answer back, but they seem to be able to do it in a more restrained, mature manner than outraged Labour screamers.
There seems to be a lot of personal bile aimed at Teresa May, which I am at a loss to understand - just what has she done that is so terrible?
She is pushing through Brexit, but that was what the country voted for. Is she supposed to go against the country's wishes?
All of Labour's policies look very lovely, but none have any substance at all. My friend recently stated on Facebook she was supporting Jeremy Corbyn because he wanted peace not war. And? How is he going to implement that then? It reminds me of the 1980s T-shirts stating War is Stupid. Lots of nice words, but to implementation strategies.
It amazes me that supposedly intelligent people seem to be so brainwashed by this nonsense and think that flinging mud is an appopriate way to behave.
Is it just me?

I really actually hope Amy isn't who she claims to be.

If she is then there a young woman in need of some help.

StillHungryy · 23/04/2017 02:33

Just so everything is clear beyond ( not that I really need to ask) doubt do you give a shit about boys who do those actions?
As I know I find it unacceptable, but that's not what we were talking about, but it is things I read her say many times on unrelated threads to derail and garner sympathy as let's face it if you reply like I am you look like an arsehole. Because others do despicable things doesn't mean you get to be rude.

And Helena for your hard week and look after yourself after seeing your news about your close friend FlowersCake

HelenaDove · 23/04/2017 02:34

When your posts first appeared on this site it was right after the interaction this site had with UK Punting.

I did wonder if there was a connection and i said so on a previous thread.

I redacted and said i was wrong............

HelenaDove · 23/04/2017 02:35

Thankyou Hungry Thanks We are still getting our heads around it.

IAmAmy · 23/04/2017 02:35

Well I go regularly to oppose the anti-choice lobby at my local Marie Stopes clinic. I go on marches for Reclaim the Night. I oppose misogynist boys I know in person. I challenge misogyny at parties. I've stepped in when I've seen girls and women being harassed in the street even though I'm relatively defenceless. I've discussed street harassment, misogyny and rape culture at length with my dad and some of his colleagues. I've volunteered at a local refuge just doing cleaning and ironing so that the volunteers with qualifications and experience have more time to help the women. But no, I don't care about women. You know nothing about me.

Dannythechampion · 23/04/2017 02:37

You know nothing about anyone on here yet have made lots of accusations against people.

IAmAmy · 23/04/2017 02:38

When your posts first appeared on this site it was right after the interaction this site had with UK Punting.

I have literally no idea what UK Punting is.

I really actually hope Amy isn't who she claims to be.

Hmm

If she is then there a young woman in need of some help.

No I'm not...

HelenaDove · 23/04/2017 02:45

Amy no one has said you dont care about women. That is what you have wrongfully accused me of (see above)

JustAnotherPoster00 · 23/04/2017 03:00

well done for merailing the thread amy [slowclap]

CopperRose · 23/04/2017 08:04

Amy Have you been drinking again. I remember you posting like this on a weekend in the past when you were.

Ditch the fucking alcohol then perhaps you will see who has posted what.

Get yourself some help Amy because by God you need it.

*I really actually hope Amy isn't who she claims to be.

If she is then there a young woman in need of some help.*

Hmm Judgemental & unnecessary.
mirime · 23/04/2017 09:24

HelenaDove I've read that thread about UC you linked to, thanks for that.

No misremembering here. The manager of a local shop boasted to me and my mum how he'd given his staff a 2p an hour pay rise to take them up to £1/hr. Just women earning pin money apparently, so it was OK Hmm

Must have been around 1995.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 23/04/2017 09:46

Right in an effort to get the thread back to the point

In my experience here people are very quick to call you left wing or right wing even when you are neither

I have been called a left wing liberal many many times, and the majority of the times i have voted its been tory

It wont be this time!

LornaMumsnet · 23/04/2017 09:58

Hi, all.

We'd really, really hate to have to remove this thread.

Could we ask for a bit of peace and love?

HorridHenryrule · 23/04/2017 12:59

Amy is a year 12 student she is very young. She is allowed to be young and stupid she'll probably spend the next 10 years finding her feet. A bit of peace and love does go a long way.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 23/04/2017 13:03

Yes its a real proving ground for schoolkids here.

bingbongnoise · 23/04/2017 13:13

I haven't rtft, but most of my FB friends are left wing, most are affected by disability in one way or another, most are being screwed over left, right and centre by this Tory government and are scared. They're not scroungers (as Tory propaganda would have us believe), they're decent people struggling to manage under very difficult circumstances, coping with more than the average person can even imagine. They tend to be very vocal about their desire to get a right wing government out, but not because they're NASTY, or aggressive, or workshy, but because it's easy enough to see what the future holds for us if conservatives get in again. Like I said, we're scared.

Plenty of people I know irl are Tory voters and cannot understand the difficulties that the "other side" have, and certainly cannot grasp that people like me and my family don't deserve it in some way; we haven't worked hard enough, we have brought it on ourselves. Many have little comprehension that anyone is susceptible to disability, all it takes is one accident or illness, and there goes your capacity to earn, to keep your children fed. One mental health breakdown and you may be unable (not unwilling, but actually unable) to work for some time, and then not in the capacity that you did before.

Very good post @cloudperson!

Basically, there are outspoken left wing people and outspoken right wing people, and the outspoken ones on both sides are as bad as each other for attacking, being a bit nasty, and for assuming only their viewpoint is the correct one.

Thing is, as the poster above said some people who have always been fortunate enough to never be unemployed or end up disabled and unable to work, can't fathom how difficult it is when this does^ happen to you. It is possible for your life to go wrong and for you to lose everything, and not everyone on benefits is a screaming entitled-to scrounger,

Many people on benefits have not chosen to be there, and would prefer to have a decent salary/good career/no money worries etc etc. The entitled-to brigade that you see on those ghastly channel 5 programmes are not typical of everyone on benefits.

Many people who have spent their life on benefits/handouts, have lived this way because they have not always had the been opportunity to better themselves, or don't think they can have a different life. It's not great that people are/were allowed to have a life on benefits and something did need to be changed, but it was allowed to happen. Should the people who've spent their lives on benefits been totally to blame for doing this?

The Tories have issued some vicious and unkind cuts and rule changes that have affected the most vulnerable, and it's no surprise that they have been labelled the nasty party. Will it be different with Theresa May? Who knows? But I personally would find it very hard to vote for them, knowing how harsh they have been with the most poor and vulnerable in society over the past few years.

The bedroom tax was cruel, and even though I understand that someone alone (or a couple) should not be occupying a 4 bed house, the council should have offered them an alternative; a small bungalow or flat. Of course, there were so little 'small properties' that there was very little to offer, so people were thrown on the streets.

Then tripling university fees was harsh, and so was the benefit cap, as it caused social cleansing. And don't even get me started on the way they have treated the disabled, with those ghastly assessment companies like Capita and ATOS. The most vulnerable and lonely and poor in our society have been shat on from a great height by the Tories, and so it's no wonder some left wing people get a bit snarky.

However, re the OP, many people who support the left do have kind hearts and are considerate and care about other people, but there are some who are as the OP describes; bashing anyone who doesn't agree with them, and calling them thick, bigoted, racist etc, if they don't agree with their left wing views.

Some right wing do hold those (bigoted) views, but not all, and it's wrong to label everyone who wants immigration control and who voted for Brexit as thick bigoted chavs. There are very real and genuine reasons why people want a cap on immigration, and more control over who comes in, and why they wanted to leave the EU. And it's not because they are racist.

Some left wing (some not all,) are very rude and aggressive towards people who don't think like them, and the celebrities (like Lily Allen) are the worst. They preach and attack anyone who doesn't think like them, labelling them all bigoted and thick and narrow minded and cruel.

But I don't any see of these celebrities doing anything except preaching, insulting right wing people, and showing their face occasionally in a war torn country, apologising for how dreadful we all are in the UK for having the temerity to look after ourselves and our people.

I was labour til I die, and have always voted for them, but with the way some of the left have behaved this past year or so, (particularly the 'EU Remainers') along with the fact that Jeremy Corbyn is the leader, I simply cannot vote for them. On the other hand, I simply cannot vote for conservative, after the way they have treated the most vulnerable in society.

So I am flat out stuck on who to vote for now. I do believe though - genuinely - that Jeremy Corbyn has single handedly destroyed the Labour party, and I also believe Theresa May will win the General Election by a large majority.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 23/04/2017 13:23

Looks like LibDem then bingbong

HelenaDove · 23/04/2017 15:55

a. this thread is titled "to think that some left wing supporters are just so NASTY. Well as far as im aware it not the left wingers who have been sending abusive PMs. Its the would-be Tory voter.

b.Posters are citing her age If 17 is too young to take responsibility for your actions then there are a hell of a lot of young people serving time in detention centres who shouldnt be.

c. Amy said she was OUT with friends last night. Not ROUND a friends.......OUT with friends.

So which establishment(s) was serving a 17 year old alcohol.

Copper dont be such a bloody hypocrite. If it had been one of the left wingers on here acting as Amy did and sending ppl abusive posts you would have been one of the first to say "see left wingers are just NASTY!

TheWernethWife · 23/04/2017 16:07

"She is pushing through Brexit, but that was what the country voted for. Is she supposed to go against the country's wishes?"

48% voted remain against 52% leave, hardly a bloody landslide was it - "the people have spoken" and all that rubbish, yeah right.

CopperRose · 23/04/2017 16:23

Copper dont be such a bloody hypocrite. If it had been one of the left wingers on here acting as Amy did and sending ppl abusive posts you would have been one of the first to say "see left wingers are just NASTY!

I'm not a hypocrite Confused
Am unsure why you have this opinion of me.

Calm down.

And a 17 yr old going out and getting pissed is pretty fucking normal behaviour, imo.

Livelovebehappy · 23/04/2017 16:23

Poor Amy has been subjected to the pack mentality often displayed on here if you are pro Tory. All the more sad because the people who are doing it are clearly aware she is young - it's bullying - plain and simple. The fact is immigration does need to be capped - I would imagine anyone, however deluded they are, should realise that. Education, NHS, housing have all suffered due to unchecked immigration over the years. The majority do not contribute vast amounts to the economy, and we have not increased spending for additional housing, or increased the NHS pot, or built more schools. We do not have the finances to do so, unless we raise taxes significantly. We can no longer sustain the large influx of immigrants. It's not being racist to tell people something that anyone with an IQ bigger than their shoe size should already know.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 23/04/2017 16:25

I think you should leave it helena Thanks

I understand you being wound up by it and i think you are right but just ignore

Moussemoose · 23/04/2017 16:26

The majority do not contribute vast amounts to the economy

Anyone with a shoe size bigger than their IQ knows this statement is demonstrably wrong.

HelenaDove · 23/04/2017 16:30

It is ILLEGAL to serve a 17 year old alcohol

Copper you would be looking down on Amy getting pissed and calling it typical behaviour if she came from a council housing estate.

Livelove the bullying and aggressive behaviour and abusive PMs have been coming from Amy.

Gaslighting does not work when its the written word. Its all here in plain sight.
