To think that some left-wing supporters are just so NASTY

cathf · 22/04/2017 14:22

This is based on posts I have read on here and a couple of very vocal left-wing friends I have on facebook.
I have truly never read a Conservative supporter personally attacking Labour in the same way.
I find it astonishing and if I am honest, a bit childish.
Recent examples include a website pulling Teresa May's living room apart and costing out every single thing in it, to a chorus of comments along the lines of how can she sleep at night when children are hungry and she has a £25 candle.
Every time the subject is raised on here, there is a long thread of hysterical comments about how nasty the Tories are. Yes, Tory supporters state their case and answer back, but they seem to be able to do it in a more restrained, mature manner than outraged Labour screamers.
There seems to be a lot of personal bile aimed at Teresa May, which I am at a loss to understand - just what has she done that is so terrible?
She is pushing through Brexit, but that was what the country voted for. Is she supposed to go against the country's wishes?
All of Labour's policies look very lovely, but none have any substance at all. My friend recently stated on Facebook she was supporting Jeremy Corbyn because he wanted peace not war. And? How is he going to implement that then? It reminds me of the 1980s T-shirts stating War is Stupid. Lots of nice words, but to implementation strategies.
It amazes me that supposedly intelligent people seem to be so brainwashed by this nonsense and think that flinging mud is an appopriate way to behave.
Is it just me?

Poor Amy has been subjected to the pack mentality often displayed on here if you are pro Tory. All the more sad because the people who are doing it are clearly aware she is young - it's bullying - plain and simple.

YY - and one of that pack was a PBP as far as I'm aware, with previous of being a nasty shit.

Livelovebehappy · 23/04/2017 16:32

How's it wrong? They contribute to the economy, but do you really think what they contribute covers the billions we need to build extra homes, increase the pot significantly of an ailing NHs, and building more schools? Bearing in mind that most EU immigrants are low earners? Nope. I think it's pretty obvious.

HelenaDove · 23/04/2017 16:33

YY Rufus. Its all here in black and white anyway and the title of the thread has been disproved so the thread has served its purpose.

CopperRose · 23/04/2017 16:34

Copper you would be looking down on Amy getting pissed and calling it typical behaviour if she came from a council housing estate.

Get over yourself, and stop making out like you know my thoughts, because you don't.

In my lived experience it is pretty usual for a 17 yr old to go out and get pissed.
I don't 'look down' on anyone.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 23/04/2017 16:35

Let's not bring this back to 17 year olds and alcohol : there was a whole other thread on that a while back and Amy actually appeared to learn and listen and be quite receptive.

Clearly she has some traumatic recent personal experiences, which have informed/ coloured / however you choose to see it , her views.

On the whole though , she is an articulate young woman who perhaps got a bit carried away in trying to prove a point. I am sure her QC father has more rounded experiences and views than her but I think Amy acts out of good intentions : even if it is not possible for many to agree with her.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 23/04/2017 16:39

Absolutely helena

Livelovebehappy · 23/04/2017 16:39

Looking on the thread Helena, can't you see that the nastiness has been coming from both sides? It's wrong, but she has been pushed into a corner, surrounded by people who are not just disagreeing with her POV, but are introducing personal issues into their posts. Wrong from both sides, but the older ones amongst us should know better. I could say Amy is young and maybe re-acting the way any teen does when being shouted down, but I wouldn't be that patronising. It's just not right whichever way you look at it.

Moussemoose · 23/04/2017 16:39

Livelovebehappy

How's it wrong?

Immigrants are net contributors to the economy. They take relatively little out as they are mostly economically active people in their twenties, so little use of the NHS etc. They also mostly support themselves.

HelenaDove · 23/04/2017 16:40

I also had a bereavement this week. It didnt stop her from sending me an abusive PM though.

I understand she has been through a trauma and thats a horrible thing to experience Many ppl suffer horrific experiences and it doesnt cause them to send abusive messages.

It is clear from my posting history that i care a great deal about other women.

And im sorry but i think the refuge Amy is volunteering at would take a dim view of her behaviour on here.

Moussemoose · 23/04/2017 16:43

Helena receiving an unsolicited abusive PM is distressing to anyone no matter their age or life experiences. I am sure we can agree on that.

Even at 17 you know sending abusive messages is wrong.

I think we need to focus on the thread.Wink

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 23/04/2017 16:43

I genuinely think this thread has run its course.

HorridHenryrule · 23/04/2017 16:52

I read the pm you posted she was on another about rape jokes and she said exactly the same thing their. I think she got to emotional last night and went about it the wrong way. Many pp get emotionally involved even myself. You have to take a step back she is not your business and you know nothing about her.

CopperRose · 23/04/2017 16:56

Livelove, I don't think it's at all patronising to suggest that a teenager reacts in an overly defensive way when they feel pushed into a corner.

I see it repeatedly with my teen & have witnessed it countless times over the years from many others.

I am also not immune to overreacting when I'm on the defensive, even now in my 40s - it's pretty standard human behaviour tbh.

Fwiw Helena, I do think it's terrible that she sent abusive PMs - that's foul and not decent behaviour at all, regardless of whether she felt cornered or not she shouldn't have done that.
And I'm sorry to hear about your loss, too.

HorridHenryrule · 23/04/2017 16:59

She shouldn't have sent it it was an attack. I am sorry for your loss as well Flowers

HelenaDove · 23/04/2017 17:07

Thanks Thanks

Immigrants are net contributors to the economy. They take relatively little out as they are mostly economically active people in their twenties, so little use of the NHS etc. They also mostly support themselves.

It is a lot more nuanced than that as its very difficult to measure and there are conflicting reports/studies.

The people that usually just pipe out the "net contributors" line are usually the first to insist that any kind of immigration control is wrong, and IMO amongst the most vocal in my peers where the first to make fun of stupid working class re brexit with such ironic lines of "who will make the takeaways, do the shitty work now"

I get fed up with 'immigrants are young and are all working etc' the ones where I currently live all seem to have babies - that is about £5,000 in hospital, many of them bring in aunties and grannies - older people who need the usual medical treatment. When the children are older they will cost £5,000 per annum in schooling. Most of the Eu immigrants where I currently live do low wage jobs - house cleaning, car cleaning, etc. Some work on the building sites and have depressed wages for locals.--Yes, they have. One of the reasons I am moving

Pinkandwhiteblossoms · 23/04/2017 18:11

Someone has posted up a link to a website created by their 15 year old child which contains the delightful phrase

why should you put up with a country where everything is decided by grumpy stubborn racist pensioners who are going to die anyway in the next few years? It's ridiculous. 200,000 people who voted for the shambles of Brexit have already died

I am sure the OP is proud of her tolerant, liberal daughter.

JustAKitten · 23/04/2017 18:12

User why is immigrants having babies a problem?

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 23/04/2017 18:15

Yes. Unless you are a bigot.

CopperRose · 23/04/2017 18:15

Tolerant & liberal indeed, pinkandwhite.

Bless the little cherub!

IonaMumsnet · 23/04/2017 18:17

Evening folks. Last request for a bit of peace and love?

We think it would be a real shame for the OP if her thread were deleted as a bun fight and, let's face it, there are going to be many more discussions on similar topics over the coming weeks, and we don't want to have to delete them all.

If we could draw a line under any disagreements now and return to the OP's original question we'd be really grateful.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 23/04/2017 18:18

Well..do you think posts complaining about immigrants having babies are acceptable for MN?

HelenaDove · 23/04/2017 18:19

Thats lumping all pensioners in as one homogenous mass. My DH is 67 (im almost 44) and we both voted Remain.

My DM isnt English and has been living here since 1960. Shes 81

She has experienced racism a couple of times.

Lime19 · 23/04/2017 18:19
