Was parked up on our drive way ( we live on a very busy main road and the engine was off) with my clingy 12 month old on my lap in the drivers seat ( was waiting for someone to move his car seat from their car into ours) when LO honked the horn, wasn't a long honk at all as I quickly moved him away from the horn. family member then walked over and put the car seat in the back of the car and I went to hand LO over to The family member to put LO in the car seat, as I handed him over LO accidentally hit the horn again ( like before was a very short beep). The neighbour then ran out shouting ' SHUT THE FUCK UP!" I quickly apologised and explained that it was the LO and told him that he is now going in the car seat and it won't happen again. The neighbour seemed so angry and said ' I don't care just shut the Fuck up" again I then repeated what I said about the LO , apologised and said we were going out. The neighbour then said ' well why don't you solve the person causing this problem and let him play in the road' he said it so violently and angrily and I am so upset... my LO is only 12 months and he said such a horrible disgusting thing to him and about him!

It wasn't early in the morning and it wasn't late at night ( was 12 lunchtime) and I know that the neighbour doesn't have any young children.

I am so hurt, I feel awful for LO I am now scared to let him play outside in case we upset the neighbour.

WTF?!? Even if he honked the horn on purpose (my sons done it a million times thinking hes hilarious) its perfectly acceptable once or twice!

Horn beeping is mildly irritating, but a huge overreaction from your neighbour, who sounds like a tosser you are best ignoring. If it's a busy road I doubt yours is the only noise he'll hear, so carry on as normal.

My neighbour had form for this, the slightest noise and he was out there on the street yelling and f'ing and blinding. It only months later that we realised his dd was having chemo at the time. Not saying there are hidden motives behind this, he might just be an arsehole, but chalk it up to him having a bad day and your dc doing something you really shouldn't have let him do and let it go.

That's technically an assault. I'd make it very clear to him that if he made threats towards my kids again I'd be seeking legal advice.

Obviously there's no need to do it, but I often find the threat and knowledge of the law is enough to make assholes like him fuck off

I know horn honking can be annoying but it was two short beeps from a 12 month old! He was on my lap so I could keep him safe from the main road until we got the car seat ( we completely forgot it wasn't in the car)

I haven't even thought out summer I want my LO to be able to play outside and make as much noise as he likes but I know the neighbour will be complaining!

He should try living where we do. On a bend in a single track rat run country lane. Bliming honks all day and night.

Ds1 and I have just completed a driving course for under 17s. During this we were reminded that the audible warning device is part of the safety system on your car and should be checked regularly.
He's an arsehole who should be ignored (but remember to test your horn regularly from now on).

Don't waste your energy getting upset because the neighbour has said something. Shows what an inadequate person they are if they think coming outside and yelling about a teensy bit of noise is any way to deal with a non-situation.

It's your neighbour's problem, not yours, repeat to yourself over and over, not my circus, not my monkeys.

I'd be tempted to have a tall large tattooed biker friend sit in my car and sound the horn randomly for a few days, just to see what happened
