Has anyone ever realised a thread is about them?

Wondering if anyone has ever recognised a thread is about them and responded?

I'm purely asking out of curiosity, no experience of it

OP posts:
Haffiana · 21/04/2017 18:04

No, but I have posted on a thread that I then realised was started by a relative... I haven't 'fessed up!

RJnomore1 · 21/04/2017 18:05

Not yet but to be honest I'm just waiting!

TiredBefuddledRose · 21/04/2017 18:32

No but sometimes when stuff happens when I'm out I worry I'm going going to become the subject of one!

MagicMarkers · 21/04/2017 18:35

On a different baby forum someone posted about a situation with the PTA at school. I emailed her to tell her that I'd recognised her from the post. Thankfully the thread wasn't actually about me. I wonder what it would be like if you were the subject of one of those "I hate my SIL" type threads.

MrsTwix · 21/04/2017 18:39

I had this but not on here. I didn't want to get involved, the post was a bit silly really. I posted an alternative point of view without identifying myself and left well alone.

CheeseQueen · 21/04/2017 18:49

How can you tell for sure though? Surely you could think it was about you but you'd have no proof?

Angrybird123 · 21/04/2017 18:50

Well my ex and ow know have known who I am and stalked me on here so I guess they have Grin If they got a kick out of reading what I think of their vile behaviour and what it did to his kids then fine!

Dixiechickonhols · 21/04/2017 18:51

Several years ago there was one in Aibu about SIL (she had done a sad face story in local paper over a faith school bus issue) and horrible criticism of nieces names. I never told her. She got the outcome she wanted which according to most posters was ridiculous, I was tempted to post the outcome but didn't.

GreatFuckability · 21/04/2017 18:53

i recognised someone i know, talking about someone else i know in a post. but not anything personally about me.

StrawberryMouse · 21/04/2017 18:55

I spotted someone I know irl getting a roasting over her feelings towards her stepdaughter. It didn't really feel like the time or place to pop up and say hi and we're not very close so I've never told her.

GinIsIn · 21/04/2017 18:55

I have recognised a friend of a friend. She's lovely though, luckily!

ItsReginaPhalange · 21/04/2017 18:59

I recognised a lady from my birthing class as she discussed a strange issue and then bam, thread appeared later on asking advice!

MyheartbelongstoG · 21/04/2017 18:59

My exhusband started a thread about me. He wanted opinions on why a mother of three young children would go out most evenings to her friends house until late.

Almost every posted agreed I must be a prostitute!

MiltopMighty · 21/04/2017 19:00

No. I remember one poster had her posts read out in court though - I think it was divorce court!

MrsTwix · 21/04/2017 19:02

The details, timing and the location were exactly the same Cheesequeen. Some of the trivial details were a giveaway. When I first read it I just thought it was coincidental, which is why I posted my point of view, thinking I had been in a similar situation but from the other point of view, then I read more on a later post and realised it was about me!

It was a slightly unreasonable over reaction from a long term poster I otherwise liked and very much respected, and I'd already said my piece before realising it was about me, so I decided not to get involved. It wasn't a massive deal and although she wasn't agreeing with me, she wasn't slagging me off either, so it was best left.

Beadoren · 21/04/2017 19:03

Are you who I think you are?

Is this about me?

thatdearoctopus · 21/04/2017 19:04

My Head Teacher came to talk to me about a difficult home issue a child in my class was having. It was the exact same scenario I'd read about on here the night before. Sure enough, it was the same mum.

Don't want to out myself but it involved a kid and a scooter... .perhaps make something up using that information.

Laiste · 21/04/2017 19:23

No, but i had a thread moaning about a certain small group of people and one of them came on and posted on it, not knowing who i was or that they were one of the people i was bitching about in the group.

ProfAnnieT · 21/04/2017 19:26

Beadoren You're so vain, you probably think this thread is about yooooou... ;)

I told off a child today and afterwards I wondered if there would be a thread about it on here.
