I know it's bad form to point it out in the midst of someone else's distress, but seriously, am I the only one who has noticed it?

"your defiantly wrong"
"have you considered councilling"
"their going to take over"
"alot of people don't bother"

I'm not expecting Samuel Pepys but seriously, I find it difficult to respond as the wider point is lost amidst the terrible writing!

Of course I don't :) and it wasn't really a shit storm, was it? Fairly mild as shitstorms go. It was more of a birthday tea and then overexcited screechy toddlers refusing to go to bed Hmm Grin I'll get my revenge when they get English homework in the future Wink

OP Are you that man that adds or takes away apostrophes from signs in the middle of the night?

Itisnoteasybeingdifferent · 20/04/2017 07:33

I am dyslexic.
All through my school days, I would get my homework marked with capital "S" all the way down the page. I used to write d instead of b, g for q. In consequence, teachers never read what I wrote, they just marked me down for bad spelling. Problem is(was) I couldn't actually see the mistakes.

It was only in 1991 when I went back to Uni to study for a Masters and got a PC, (anyone remember Windows 3.1?) with a very basic spell checker that I began to be able to address my spelling. However, I am still a lousy typist and make all sorts of typo's. And as PP's say, there is no edit function on MN...(I really do wish there was so I could correct mistakes).

For me it is down to the reason. Is it because someone does knot know the difference between their there and their they're, (see what I did). Or is it a simple tipo? For me not knowing the "correct" form is the greater problem. But I am the first to acknowledge, I was very lucky to have had the chance of a higher education, and to have learned the importance of getting the worms tight.

Typos don't bother me usually but lack of reading comprehension really does.

It's very frustrating when posters answer the op and they clearly have not understood the premise of it. Then instead of admitting it, they just bang on about whatever it is they think the op is talking about. It can ruin threads imo.

Yes, I find this more annoying than poor spelling, grammar.
As well taking part of a post and using it out of context just to prove a point.

I don't judge people I don't know on spelling/grammar, because if I can read it and get the point, then I don't know their level of literacy etc, but I do get annoyed with DP and DD when they use 'text speak' on me. I hate it, and they know how to spell things, DD I kind of get, she's a teen but DP asking me "wots rong?" when I know he knows how to spell properly makes my teeth itch.......!
