I know it's bad form to point it out in the midst of someone else's distress, but seriously, am I the only one who has noticed it?

"your defiantly wrong"
"have you considered councilling"
"their going to take over"
"alot of people don't bother"

I'm not expecting Samuel Pepys but seriously, I find it difficult to respond as the wider point is lost amidst the terrible writing!

OP posts:
demonchilde · 19/04/2017 18:28

And no, I didn't proof read that ^ :D. Have fun dissecting it.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/04/2017 18:31

It it bothers you that much, jog on and read The Guardian.

Are you trying to make the OP die from apoplexy?Grin My favourite Grauniadisms was a motoring article which used 'breaks' instead of 'brakes' throughout.

Didyoumeantobesorude1 · 19/04/2017 18:32

YANBU. But the real issue is the inequality at the heart of our education system.
I find many non-native speakers of English have a better understanding of English spelling and grammar than people who were born here.

Beeziekn33ze · 19/04/2017 18:41

Ow Pee Yoo r ay verri roood purrsonn. Aintcha?

SpookyPotato · 19/04/2017 18:45

It doesn't bother me but I have noticed it. It's bad here but worse on facebook comments when you read public shares. So many you/you're, their/there/they're, lose/loose mixups... and the age of the writer doesn't make a difference. I used to work in a school and even some of the teachers made these mistakes!

AlessandroVasectomi · 19/04/2017 18:46

As Sir Francis Drake said when informed that the Spanish Armada was approaching English shores "The Spanish Armada can wait; my bowels can't".

IonaNE · 19/04/2017 18:46

YANBU.
People, please don't blame it on autocorrect. It is possible to switch autocorrect off, you know. It is the first thing I switch off on a new phone because I know how to spell and use correct grammar, and I don't need a robot to tell me what it was I wanted to say.

Also please don't blame it on typing in a hurry: typing something incorrectly takes exactly as much time as typing it correctly. It should not require extra time to think about it. This is also in response to those who posted along the lines of "get a life".

Finally, yes, not everyone's first language is English here. That includes me. But I can spell and use correct grammar in English and two other languages (both of which use a variety of accents, btw). I am currently learning a fourth. It is possible to learn these things. Using correct spelling and grammar is a matter of self-respect.

ilovechoc1987 · 19/04/2017 18:47

I don't think it matters to be honest.
Especially when people use codes like YABU or AIBU or bloody ANDJDJDIENDBEBJEBR
(none of which I understand anyway!)
It's not school.

ghostyslovesheets · 19/04/2017 18:49

yes IonaNE I have a learning impairment so obviously have no self respect Hmm

twinjocks · 19/04/2017 18:49

YANBU

JacquesHammer · 19/04/2017 18:52

IoneNE

What a load of nonsense. I am highly qualified in a degree which involved grammar. My spelling is excellent.

I write a lot for my work. Sometimes I edit as I write. I always proof read after. MN doesn't have the ability to edit and preview doesn't always work on device.

For example today I was writing content for a client.

I started with "We are always here" which I ended up changing as I went to "we want to here from you" by a quick cut job: of course I noticed as I edited.

Typing in a hurry can absolutely make a difference. And why would I turn autocorrect off. Is ducking useful 😜

honeyfull · 19/04/2017 18:53

AlessandroVasectomi

That's funny.

I'm sure Drake washed his draws out afterwards his bowl movement.

LouKout · 19/04/2017 18:55

Do you want a medal, Iona?

VintagePerfumista · 19/04/2017 18:57

You're clearly not that bothered about correct punctuation Ione...

VintagePerfumista · 19/04/2017 18:59

I can speak 5 languages, and am C2 level in 3 of them. I've been an English teacher for 23 years. I still don't feel the need to do any pissing against the wall about it. except in response to people like Ione

JacquesHammer · 19/04/2017 19:02

If there was a medal it should say "wel dun. You did gud"

WorraLiberty · 19/04/2017 19:04

What a load of nonsense IoneNE

Is it that difficult for you to understand that people have differing levels of intelligence and have had different experiences of schooling/education?

If you have any self-respect, it's not apparent, given your dismissive attitude towards some less literate people.

squishysquirmy · 19/04/2017 19:08

You is NBU OP, I here wot your saying.
People should take much more care with they're spelling and grandma.

squishysquirmy · 19/04/2017 19:08

Of course YABU.
Get over it!

DeanaPiana · 19/04/2017 19:11

Goingtobeawesome · 19/04/2017 19:15

The new trend for saying/typing should of instead of should have is annoying me the most along with somethink.

Owlish · 19/04/2017 19:18

The OP would have apoplexy at my Facebook friends' posts Grin and I agree with her/him, but I'd never have the bad manners to mention it to the specific people. I'd just judge in silence.

thebakerwithboobs · 19/04/2017 19:30

I feel very sorry for you, OP. I'm a head teacher and have been for years. One of the most rewarding and enriching parts of teaching is allowing young people to not only work on their opportunities, but really develop their talents. Everyone is unique. We all have a different set of skills and abilities and we all, even you, have areas that we could improve, things that we wish we could accomplish, challenges to meet every single day. One of life's biggest injustices is that some of these challenges are more noticeable than others-and the same can be said for talents. Some of the posters you are writing off, simply for their inability to understand a split digraph, or tenses, or spelling patterns might be the most talented individuals at things you are not so great at. You won't know that though, because there is no way of making the comparison which gives you the opportunity to develop a superiority complex simply because you can spell better than others. Spell! That's all! Just spell. Some of our most talented mathematicians, for example, find writing in prose very difficult because it doesn't appeal to their skill set. Alexander Graham Bell, Pierre Curie, Leonardo Da Vinci-all dyslexic but incredible talents.

What a shame for you, and for all of those people whose talents you will never discover because their entire worth is judged on whether or not they can differentiate between their, there and they're.
