I know it's bad form to point it out in the midst of someone else's distress, but seriously, am I the only one who has noticed it?

"your defiantly wrong"
"have you considered councilling"
"their going to take over"
"alot of people don't bother"

I'm not expecting Samuel Pepys but seriously, I find it difficult to respond as the wider point is lost amidst the terrible writing!

YABU. Sneakily type posts very quickly in work and don't always see obvous spilling/gramer erors Wink

usernumbernine · 19/04/2017 16:22

Many people rely on phones and the like to spell for them due to dyslexia. Or don't you believe in that type of thing, op?

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/04/2017 16:23

Did you mean to write, "but seriously" twice? I'm willing to bet Pepys wouldn't have done that.

Pinkandwhiteblossoms · 19/04/2017 16:23

derxa alot of posters aggree!

Seriously, YABU, no seriously you are.

But seriously, BU

And don't forget the perils of autocorrect...seriously!

HouseworkIsASin10 · 19/04/2017 16:25

The worst is the mega long paragraphs without any breaks. Now that gives me the rage.

If I can't spot the gist straight away then I back out and move onto the next one.

As I said, in work mumsneting on the sly.

glitterglitters · 19/04/2017 16:25

YABU. I write for a living and have (normally) excellent grammar and spelling, but the fact you can't go back and edit, type super fast sometimes etc makes people look like they can't spell etc.

ChrisYoungFuckingRocks · 19/04/2017 16:25

I am a bit of a grammer natzi meself, but on this bored their is a lot of peoples whoos first language isn't Enlish. Not wroth makin a fuss aboot.

leighdinglady · 19/04/2017 16:26

YABU

Not everyone has the background or education enjoyed by most. Yes some people might not be grammatically correct, but it's pure snobbery to knock them down because of it. As long as people are decent and not offending anyone, why be a cow and belittle them

Pinkandwhiteblossoms · 19/04/2017 16:26

Seriously, wicca? Wink

You got me there, Karma. I can only speak English!

OP posts:
HouseworkIsASin10 · 19/04/2017 16:26

Or is it 'mumsnetting'?

YokoReturns · 19/04/2017 16:26

OP

I used to agree with you. I'm a grammar pedant and have a good memory for spelling, grammatical rules etc.

My eyesight is starting to fail and I can now totally empathise with people who have dyslexia etc.

We're all different. Some of us are great at grammatical/lexicographical/spelling accuracy, others are better at social skills, knitting, singing or tiddlywinks.

ShowMeWhatYouGot · 19/04/2017 16:26

Yabu

But I imagine you won't read my response anyways because of all the grammar!

This isn't an English assignment, it's a online forum, people are not going to do their best work here.

That being said I die a little inside when I see "Can't" spelt "Carnt" it's happening more and more Grin

mummymeister · 19/04/2017 16:26

Roughly 1 in 8 to 1 in 10 people struggle with literacy and numeracy in the UK. They still have problems and issues that they would like help and advice with. Shall we just deny them that support because they cant fill in a box properly?

Perhaps only those earning above the average salary of £26k a year should be allowed to post? Or only those with O level English Grade C and above.

Sometimes quite a lot of us have a lot more on our minds than where to put the apostrophe. If that's the only thing that you have to worry about then good for you. you are in the lucky minority.

PickAChew · 19/04/2017 16:27

It's far better here than almost any other public forum.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/04/2017 16:27

How many other forums have a dedicated "Pedants' Corner" topic?Grin

usernumbernine · 19/04/2017 16:27

Op could you answer my point re dyslexia please?

Katinkka · 19/04/2017 16:28

People are thick and uneducated.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 19/04/2017 16:28

I think you need a hobby OP

wiccamum · 19/04/2017 16:28

Oh PinkandWhite, I am in a terribly naughty mood this afternoon. I've been all over the boards being a bitch 😆
On garden leave from work, going mad and behaving like a child x

StealthPolarBear · 19/04/2017 16:28

Has no one else noticed the new trend f writing the exact opposite to what you intend to say. Not sarcasm just ... well no idea .
It makes posts easy to understand.
(That sort of thing)

Saucery · 19/04/2017 16:29

If you lose the 'wider point' over SPaG mistakes then it's probably your own literacy that needs attention tbh.

FlyingElbows · 19/04/2017 16:30

Op, it's Mumsnet not an English A level (insert your own regional equivalent here). Gonnae try no tae be tae much ae a pedantic cunt, eh?
