Aibu to think that Carole Middleton went out of her way to marry off Kate & Pippa to royalty & society millionaires?? Wills & James Matthews are hardly oil paintings, would the girls look at them twice if they worked in Tesco? Reading about Pippa's wedding tonight & it seems the sisters were both quite the social climbers in Marlborough which was encouraged by their mother? I have friends in similar circles & it seems they are very hard to break into if you are not "old money/landed gentry types" so I think Carole achieved what she set out to do! Roll on Pippa's wedding, looking forward to seeing the dress!

Obviously no one else ever, has attempted to improve their lot by choosing a career where there is a good chance they will meet an eligible partner.

Nor has anyone else gone to a club known to be frequented by eligible single folk dressed up to the nines.

And no one else ever has learnt the offside rule for any reason at all apart from a passion for footy.

I hope Kate did / Pippa does want to marry their respective choices. Their marriages are likely to be happier if it's what they want.

Crapuccino · 19/04/2017 12:43

Oooh you saucy minx! When my darling Wills and I split up they made me change my whole identity right down to my fingerprints. I'm never allowed to tell anyone abou-

... Oh.

Lweji · 19/04/2017 12:44

Maybe Kate used this strategy:

www.nytimes.com/2015/01/11/fashion/no-37-big-wedding-or-small.html

I find it funny that a woman gets married and someone starts a thread dissing her mother. Just, why????

Lweji · 19/04/2017 12:45

AmysTiara
I don't think they look miserable together.

Joking. Wink

GolderAndWiser · 19/04/2017 12:45

Brown Cat. Brown Kittens.

Like Carole, Kate and Pippa are good looking women who would have mixed with successful confident people no matter what their mother suggested. People some times go on like Carole could have controlled what William thought of Kate, or their relationship. So ridiculous!

Lweji · 19/04/2017 12:46

On second thoughts, why did they go on separate ski holidays? OMG! Are they splitting up?

So many people feel happier marrying someone of the same cultural/religious/social background as themselves.

And the Argentinian chappie in charge at the Vatican is of the Romish persuasion.

And ursines defecate where arboreals abound.

As for the Middletons: as others have said Mr M may also have been involved - or he and Mrs M may not. We do not know. And Pippa won't be the first person in the world to marry someone whom she met through the spouse of a sibling, will she?

NotReallyMeToday · 19/04/2017 12:47

nothercupoftea - how is that naive? How does one make someone fall in love? I feel like I've missed out on a trick now.

once this spell has been shared I'll be on the next plane to wherever Tom Hiddleston is next

ohhereweareagain · 19/04/2017 12:48

Op you sound a mixture of jealous and bitter. I hate the phrase social climbing thus implying that the 'upper class snotty twats' are superior to us plebs. You don't like the idea of 'new money' sticking it's nose in taking husbands that would have otherwise married in to the usual gang continuing inbreeding Grin

GolderAndWiser · 19/04/2017 12:58

I agree with poster who said it's sad that Megan M is expected to wipe clean her career. Her website, her thoughts. All gone.

KM was criticised for not having a career, Megan who has one is ordered to press delete.

No woman can win.

Terfinator · 19/04/2017 13:05

Weren't they on the same course?

JanetBrown2015 · 19/04/2017 13:07

Mrs M has built up a very successful business herself. Well done her. Why ar people saying Mrs M rrather than the father was doing any social climbing? It all seems rather sexist to me. Let women earn their own money. Like Mrs M I earn enough money to pay school fees and that is likely to mean my daughters and sons earn a fair bit. It is a pity Catherine M never really had a career but hopefully the rest of them will manage to earn money.

NotReallyMeToday

You know, I think it is harder to marry a Hollywood celebrity than anyone else - they generally just don't seem to marry nobodies, do they.

Tainbri · 19/04/2017 13:14

I thought Wills and Kate met at uni? St. Andrews wasn't it? I'm not sure how Mrs M is supposed to have set that one up?! I mean how do you bag a Royal anyway, even if you've set it as a goal?! No amount of Lucy Clayton finishing school and social climbing is going to ensure that?! How bonkers! All I think these parents are guilty of is throwing money at their kids education, the kids have used that to "marry well" having chosen themselves imo. I actually think both the sisters are very pretty and seem very nice OP! Lucky them. Hope they're both happy but personally I wouldn't want to live in that type of gilded cage for all the tea in China.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 19/04/2017 13:16

I think it's naive to think that there weren't a hundred mothers all trying/engineering/hoping that their daughter ended up with William at the time.

CM gets all the opprobrium because she "succeeded." If it wasn't her, it would be which ever other 'arriviste' landed him.
If it wasn't someone Middle class then it would be all "Did he learn NOTHING from his parent's marriage??!" If he married a toff.

squoosh · 19/04/2017 13:17

I've just googled Harry's girlfriend. She looks very like Pippa Middleton, a glossier more glamorous version.

Lweji · 19/04/2017 13:17

The OP could be one of them. Mother or daughter. :)

nothercupoftea · 19/04/2017 13:32

good luck to the ones working on George, Kate already knows all the tricks and will see them coming from a mile Grin I bet she won't allow him to marry a commoner.

GolderAndWiser · 19/04/2017 13:33

And even if CM were a really pushy parent, all she could ever have planned was that her daughter would end up acquainted with some of the same people as PW. No more than that could ever have been in her power and even the most controlling mother in the world would know that. Well, maybe not, but CM seems sane.

I could see them together even if they weren't royal which is more than you'd ever have thought about charlene and albert or charles and Diana!

Theycalledmethewildrose · 19/04/2017 13:36

I think many wealthy parents (and some not do wealthy) will do all they can to send their children to the 'right' schools. It is more about the connections and the reputation than the education. I live in an area where the local state primary is shit. The majority of the kids who go there are from a disadvantaged background. My kids don't go there and it was never on our radar despite it being the closest school to us. I think what the Middletons did is pretty similar though of course at the other end of the spectrum. I don't see anything wrong with it. I think after mixing in particular circles, the Middletons kids had expectations to marry well. They were never going to fall for teachers/Tesco employees because they wouldn't be in their circles and even if they were, they would be looking to associate with people with an equal or higher social standing as themselves. But I think this is normal for a lot of people and always has been.

squoosh · 19/04/2017 13:39

Kate's genes will have sufficiently freshened up the Royal gene pool for several generations so the CVs of triple barrelled girls from the upper echelons of English society are currently being gathered as potential future Royal brides.

I hope when he reaches adulthood George declares himself pan sexual and gives up all this Royal mumbo jumbo for a career as a travelling acrobat with Cirque de Soleil.

Daydream007 · 19/04/2017 13:42

The Middletons are great parents who made sacrifices to send their children to expensive schools to give their children a head start that only a prestigious education can bring. They have given their children the absolute best start in life.

Chavelita · 19/04/2017 13:45

I can't claim to know the Middletons, daydream, and they may be extremely nice people I've no reason to think otherwise but I believe the children's education was paid for by a family trust, and even if it weren't, it's not as if the Middletons senior would have had to live on beans heated over a candleflame and break stones on the road in order to pay school fees.

nothercupoftea · 19/04/2017 13:47

They have given their children the absolute best start in life.

I completely disagree, none of their kids has a decent career or even a passion, the girls are just interested in getting married and shopping. Pippa at least is a bit sporty.

Compare with Princess Royal, and what her children have achieved.

squoosh · 19/04/2017 13:52

That's a bit unfair nother regard son Middleton and his personalised marshmallow empire. Yes, financially it's not in great shape but still, personalised marshmallows!
