Aibu to think that Carole Middleton went out of her way to marry off Kate & Pippa to royalty & society millionaires?? Wills & James Matthews are hardly oil paintings, would the girls look at them twice if they worked in Tesco? Reading about Pippa's wedding tonight & it seems the sisters were both quite the social climbers in Marlborough which was encouraged by their mother? I have friends in similar circles & it seems they are very hard to break into if you are not "old money/landed gentry types" so I think Carole achieved what she set out to do! Roll on Pippa's wedding, looking forward to seeing the dress!

I reckon that the Windsors are going to be on a par with the embarrassing Monaco Eurotrash royals in a generation. They'll be having embarrassing pop careers giving Hello interviews and marrying their bodyguards after a series of ill-advised flings with elephant trainers.

'Pippa is batting below her average. Her last BF, George Percy, who is an earl is set to inherit a dukedom and is one of the wealthiest men in the UK'

Her future FIL is a gazillionaire from a working class background. Maybe Pippa thought if she married into actual aristocracy that she'd have a lifetime of in laws sniffily referring to her lowly origins. Also the newer the money the more likely they are to splash it whereas the old money sorts think it's frightfully vulgar to spend too much of it!

GolderAndWiser · 19/04/2017 22:01

Id rather be free to spend a fraction of an amount of money how i wanted.
That percy's family wpuld have made her miserable.
They are probably sniffing sideways now.

Id say the real reason press hate carol is because she cant be bought.

MrsJamesMathews · 19/04/2017 22:06

I think the point the OP has totally missed is that, in the world of young hedge fund managers, James Mattnews is not big news. He's small fry.

She could have done much better, if she'd so wished.

But instead she decided to follow her heart and marry the mediocre hedge fund manager with the beautiful face.

And for the benefit of doubt, I'll again post some evidence of this point. Grin

squoosh · 19/04/2017 22:12

Beautiful faces are in the eye of the beholder. I'm sure his mum thinks he's gorgeous.

MrsJamesMathews · 19/04/2017 22:14

I think he's lovely. Shall we take a MN vote?

ilikespaghetti · 19/04/2017 22:16

Pippa looks beautiful in that pic Mrs James Matthews, in some pics she looks older than her age, he is quite handsome. I don't think it's just his job Mrs JM his parents are ridiculously wealthy. I would assume they were encouraged to "marry up" & no Tom, Dick (but possibly Harry!!!!) would do!

squoosh · 19/04/2017 22:20

They probably have Spencer locked in an attic until after the nuptials to avoid him causing a scandal.

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 19/04/2017 22:26

Percy as in Thomas Percy of the Gunpower plot?

Couldn't care less about royalty and rich as I'm a staunch republican but am interested in the history of Ightam Mote and the gunpowder plot

MrsJamesMathews · 19/04/2017 22:27

She hasn't married 'up' really, has she? More like married 'across'.

From what I can tell the Middletons and the Matthews are two peas in a pod. I know Mike has some family money in the background paying for the schooling, but basically weren't the two families both 'normal' until they projected themselves into the upper echelons of British society through their own hard craft and entrepreneurship?

7Days · 19/04/2017 22:30

And also the Percys, of jilted Anne Boleyn suitor fame?

MrsJamesMathews · 19/04/2017 22:32

She does look lovely spaghetti. I think because she looks so happy.

I don't really think her sister's marriage has made things easy for her. (cue mass of jealous conspiracy theorists)

I saw her once with her ex. He asked me for directions. He was very nice and polite, as you'd expect, but she was half hiding behind him looking a bit shifty. Then I realised who she was, quickly gave her a half smile and promptly put my attentions back on to Nico. She was clearly feeling anxious and conspicuous. Worried I might pull out my iPhone and take a photo no doubt. They were out in the middle of nowhere taking a romantic stroll. I can't imagine it's very nice fearing having your photo taken by random strangers like that.

I am passionately invested in Pippa not having to invite every Tom, Dick and Harry's girlfriend to her do. Pippa if you're reading this tell them all to sod off!

KateMiddletonsOtherMum · 19/04/2017 22:49

God, this Dukan diet is hard work what with all the stinky breath and constipation. OP, you have NO idea, NO IDEA!!

MommaGee · 19/04/2017 23:24

How did Carol actually manage to "marry" Kate off? Confused hmm

Surely Meaghan justifies an invite??

MrsJamesMathews · 19/04/2017 23:40

Meghan is totally going. We all know they're as good as engaged. She just needs to tie up a few loose actress/celeb ends, pay off ex lovers etc then it'll be all good to go. Perhaps they'll go for a September announcement to try and take the heat of George starting school.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 19/04/2017 23:53

It certainly looks as if Megan is going to go the distance with Harry. I read Megan has applied for time off filming for the week of the wedding and that she would be going to the party but not the ceremony because of the 'no ring, no bring' ' rule, although how you can tell family in law, who are members of the RF, that they are 'not allowed' bring a date seems a bit strange. She has also closed her blog and said goodbye to her readers.

Have they been going out long enough for an engagement though?

TheDowagerCuntess · 19/04/2017 23:59

But why would it have been so wrong anyway, i'm a catholic, my dh is a protestant, no big deal. Why should it be a bigger deal for them. Religious discrimination should have had no place in the monachy.

ConfusedGrin

The monarch is the HEAD of a religion!

My DH is Catholic and I was Christened Protestant - that's irrelevant! He's not the Pope (read: head of a religion), and neither am I.

It's a bigger deal for them because the monarch is also the head of a religion.

You can't say religious discrimination should have no place in the monarchy - when the very monarch is head of a religion!
