Am I too old for rainbow hair?

I bleached and dyed my long hair yesterday. It was previously an acceptable shade of burgundy. It's now a rainbow of aqua and pink with some gold bits. I love it.

My mum has made a catsbumface at me and told me I'm too old to muck about with my hair like this. She thinks it's too long anyway and that women of a certain age should have much shorter hair (she's been saying that to me for the last ten years).

I'm 37. Is she right? Does it look desperate and sad on a mother of teenagers, as she thinks?

(FYI I don't actually care, but I'm interested to see whether people agree with her...)

Thanks Flowers. I was thinking of your hair yesterday when I was looking at colours, because I need to reorder my pink. Smile

VerbenaGirl · 13/04/2017 09:41

Love it!

KitKat1985 · 13/04/2017 12:09

No I don't think 37 is too old for rainbow hair. I do think from your pictures though that it hasn't been done very well though and your hair looks in poor condition. Sorry, not trying to upset you but just being honest.

KitKat1985 · 13/04/2017 12:11

ApplePaltrow your hair looks amazing. How long did it take to get that done?

It's awesome! I love it x

HolditFinger · 13/04/2017 17:17

I'm 42 next month and have just gone from pillarbox red long hair to multi-tones of red and gold. I've tried normal hair but it's just not me. I love it btw Kerry! Life is too short to worry what other people think.

Gottagetmoving · 13/04/2017 17:18

Your hair....You can do what you want with it. Age has nothing to do with it.
I know a woman in her sixties who has rainbow hair. Take no notice of disapproval from anyone.

WorshipTheGourd · 13/04/2017 17:20

I was at Beamish at the weekend.
There was a woman there with fab coloured hair - long and dipped pinky purple half way down. she had a small bun up too with the cooured ends wrapped round in a skinny plait.
She had a cool felt house handbag and just GREAT.
My dd and I admired her, and told her so.
She was not super young/thin but a normal attractive woman who looked fun, different and beautiful.
OP your hair looks GREAT.

tempted to put pink ends on my dyed blonde hair after Operation in celebration?

TheShoeLady · 13/04/2017 17:25

I love seeing people with colourful hair. I'm pretty conservative with what I wear, jeans and a top with boots or trainers. I'm an artist (creating hand-painted shoes) so being able to express my creativity with my hair is important to me. I get really bored with plain hair - it looks pretty swish when it's all black, but then the grey roots come through, the shine fades and I feel dull. A bit of colour perks me up no end!

So here is my desperate and attention seeking hair - it was a complete accident but I love it Grin

TheShoeLady · 13/04/2017 17:26

and I'm 43 and don't give a fuck if people think I'm too old for it!

WorshipTheGourd · 13/04/2017 17:28

coloured ends
looked just GREAT
Beamish woman, you rocked!

Veronicat · 13/04/2017 17:57

I saw a lady in her 70s wearing irregular choice shoes, a leopard print coat and a bright pink beehive yesterday. I want to be her when I grow up.Grin

MaBumble · 13/04/2017 19:25

I'm 51, with grown up children and a very sensible job.

This is my hair. Tell your mum that its understandable that she feel like that, given the era she grew up in - but these days age is not a factor when it comes to what you do and how you live your life.
Name changed as this is VERY identifying.

If you love you, keep loving it. I feel a bit sorry for your Mum. Very sad outlook on life. Aslo - 37 - awsome age to be.

I agree it's not something people should do themselves. Home hair dye barely looks good on standard colours let alone brights

fourteenlittleducks · 13/04/2017 20:30

Deep conditioning won't help much if it's damaged by bleach. You'd be better off getting it cut into a layered bob then having a brazillian blow-dry. They coat the hair with keratin and use heat to seal it into the hair shaft. It transformed my frizzy wavy hair, without losing the curl.

It's not about age. To pull off any bold, eye-catching style your hair needs to be in great condition, polished, well cut. Otherwise you're just drawing attention to the frizz, dryness and straggly ends.

I love some of the rainbow styles on here. Rainbow hair looks gorgeous when it's sleek and glossy.

Wando1986 · 13/04/2017 20:32

I'm early 30's and I have pastel & rose pink hair. Tell your Mum to mind her own beeswax.

Patchouli666 · 13/04/2017 21:07

For conditioning google 'snowy moons moisture treatment'. Works on my nearly waist length bright red hair!

ArriettyClock1 · 13/04/2017 21:13

I hate it, sorry.

Don't mind me though.

My 50 year old sister has done something similar - she looks tragic and reminds me of Su Pollard.

SarahLinden · 13/04/2017 21:23

I'm 52 and have purple, pink and blue underneath and ash blonde on top. My hair is very long and conditioned with Philip Kingsley's Elasticiser. When I put it into a ponytail, I swish it like I'm a My Little Pony Grin

Christ, you're a long time dead - no harm in having a little fun! Wink

haveacupoftea · 13/04/2017 21:26

I hate bright hair, I just think people look much more attractive with natural colours. But you certainly aren't too old.

Floggingmolly · 13/04/2017 21:28

My Little Pony Grin. Rainbow Dash?

C0untD0wn17 · 14/04/2017 00:07

I want rainbow hair even if I am 100 !

Do what makes you happy

Unless you have a job that specifies otherwise

BAN THE GREY AND BEIGE !!!

Arealhumanbeing · 14/04/2017 01:54

I'm 40 and sometimes have a rose pink tint in my hair.

That stuff your Mum said is from the book of made up shit for women. I'm sure she doesn't mean any harm, just a bit of sexism she's spouting at you.

Ignore and enjoy your lovely hair.
