…to think that Cadbury's chocolate has gone a bit shit??

Deeply unimportant thread klaxon.

I don't eat chocolate much these days but we have a ton left over from Christmas and as I'm feeling rotten, I thought I'd shovel down a crafty Dairy Milk after dinner today whilst hiding behind the cross-trainer in the spare room. Classy me.

BLURGH! Why did it taste like sugary brown goop?!? This isn't at all how I remember Cadbury's tasting. Is it me or did something happen to the recipe??

Kraft took over and made it taste like shit.

WellErrr · 11/04/2017 20:11

Yes, Kraft bought it and changed the recipe, after promising they wouldn't.

It's mostly sugar now rather than cocoa and tastes shit.

Yes, it got bought over by Americans, who eat shit chocolate.

Aaaaaw man. Confused So what's a decent alternative? I know DCs won't care about shit chocolate much, but if I'm getting some for other people I don't want to buy them that. It was actually borderline disgusting.

You are correct. I detest the new improved recipe.
Frankly it's a national emergency.

(I have a dear friend who brings me Irish Cadbury's and she has saved my life.)

If you're willing to spend extra than I would recommend somewhere like hotel chocolat

There was a thread about this a while back. Someone posted 'enough already Cadbury's! Not only are all my favourites gone from Milk Tray, but they taste of nothing.'

That's it in a nutshell really. The Milk Tray is horrible. The chocolate has no taste and is greasy. Something to do with them using palm oil I think. Also, a few other bars taste shit, like double deckers, and Cadbury's Caramel to name but two. Even the creme egg isn't the same as it used to be.

The Twirl bar and the Cadbury's Dairy Milk are the only ones that still taste good imo.

Thorntons are just as bad. The mixed selection of soft centres all taste the bloody same!

NOTHING is the same as it used to be. Very sad. Sad

It's pretty grim nowadays. I assume they must have changed it for cost cutting reasons. I yearn for the old stuff.

MiddleClass I don't do chocolate often but when I do, my tastebuds expect the Full Monty, and they're willing to pay for the pleasure.

I will look into Hotel Chocolat stat.

Agree - twirls are still ok.
Rest taste like oily sugar.

I can't believe they did this. It's like waking up and discovering that half your childhood has just been erased.

I haven't been this disappointed since I tried Coco Pops last year and nearly hurled them straight back up.

Most choccie bars are smaller too. By a good third. Sad

I think it tastes fine. Why were you hiding behind the cross trainer to eat it? Confused

Report
SuperBeagle · 11/04/2017 20:23

I won't eat it for ethical reasons. A company with as much money as Cadbury has no need to use palm oil in their products, and yet they do.

That's also why it tastes like ass.

Bluntness I may or may not have been hiding from DS whose already eaten his body weight in chocolate today. He's also sick and cranky too, so he'd have taken his lack of involvement badly and I am a weak, miserable soul who just didn't want to share.

YANBU. It's bloody disgusting now. Leaves a horrible after taste too. I always have a Cadburys selection box at Christmas, after last year I won't bother again. After a creme egg last year, and mini eggs, wont6be bothering with them either. Bloody disgusting and I've always loved it. Galaxy and dark chocolate for me now (Lidl own is very nice!)

Yes, when I was little, my mums favourite was Cadburys dairy milk. It's unrecognisable now to what it was! I remember chunks of fruit n nut and the whole nut. At the weekend she'd break some up in a dish for us to have watching tele.
Now it's pale and tastes so cheap!! Sad

Milka is a good substitute.

I ate a family size Lindt Milk Chocolote with Almonds bar by myself last week. Inevitable bloating.

Creme Eggs turned vile a couple of years ago - I used to love them, now they're too sweet and sickly Sad.

Cadburys chocolate is not deeply unimportant

Agreed it's awful now. I find myself now having to buy naice brands like Hotel Chocolat or cheapo Aldi's Mosser Roth. I also think Mars chocolate tastes crappier than it did 10 years ago.
